Journalist, javisst! En förändrad mediebransch ur ett motivationsperspektiv

Given the turbulent situation in the Swedish media industry few researchers have turned towards the view of the situation from the perspective of the journalist who is in many ways under pressure. This study therefore aims to take this perspective by combining recent research in the media field with proven theories in the field of motivation. Through deep interviews with eight journalists active in the general news reporting area, the most important factors in terms of their motivation have been suggested and analyzed. There is a distinction between different types of motivation including intrinsic and extrinsic aspects. The intrinsic factors include investigational journalism and the social part of doing research. The extrinsic factors include being able to affect the public and decision makers through their work, choosing your own article topics as well as being assigned topics. Furthermore, since the everyday work is also dependent on deadlines it was necessary to study this from a motivational perspective. However, the shift towards web-based journalism, and its new definitions of deadlines, shows that the negative impact on the motivation is non-existent. Finally, the above-mentioned motivational factors were found only to be affecting the journalist's motivation in the short run since the insecurity of the working environment in terms of not being permanently employed inhibits these factors in the long run.
