Inventering och karakterisering av brännbart avfall i
Norrköpingsregionen


The purpose of this study has been to make an inventory of combustible waste in the region around Norrköping and to investigate the composition of domestic waste, industrial waste and two different types of sludge. The work was performed at the request of Norrköping Miljö & Energi, due to the planning of an incineration plant. The inventory of the waste was performed through inspection of environmental impact reports, from waste disposal plants in a number of local government areas in the region. The quantities were also compared to another inventory, carried out in a different way. The characterisation of the wastes was compared to the fuel specification determined by Norrköping Miljö & Energi. The inventory showed that in the local government area of Norrköping, there is almost 40 000 tonnes of combustible waste, including 5 000 tonnes of waste wood that is already being used for energy production. The quantity of combustible waste for the whole region around Norrköping was 215 000 tonnes or 70% of the quantity achieved in the other inventory. For combustible industrial and domestic waste the biggest problems are chlorine and aluminium. These two parameters often exceed the limits set in the fuel specification. Sludge from sewage treatment works have a high nitrogen level, high ash and moisture levels and thereby a low heating value. It also contains a lot of mercury. This type of sludge is, unlike the other wastes in this study, homogenous and differs only between sewage treatment works.
