Hållbar konsumtion av nötkött och mjölk


Sustainable beef and milk consumption. The consumption of beef and dairy products in Sweden is high. A lot of greenhouse gases are emitted from the production of these products. The production of beef in Sweden has decreased but the import has increased. The number of dairy cows has decreased while beef-production with suckler-cows has increased in Sweden. If the consumption should become sustainable it must be seen in three dimensions and they are economic, ecological and societal. These dimensions are analyzed in this paper. To get income support for having beef-production with suckler-cows and to pay taxes for being a polluter are included in the economic dimension. Included in the ecological dimension is that the production should have as low impact on the environment as possible. The impact a product has on the environment can be analyzed in a life cycle assessment. In the societal dimension the impact that diets, requested products, population growth and animal ethics have on the consumption is included. The concept of sustainability is hard to define but all three dimensions must be included if the consumption should be sustainable. The consumer should not stop eat beef and dairy products but the products that are consumed in Sweden should be produced in Sweden and the attitude of the consumer must change and the production must be more effective.
