Genusmönster vid friluftsutövande i Göteborg

This paper is a quantitative case study named Outdoor recreation of urban areas viewed through a gender perspective. The intention of this paper is, by studying gender pattern in outdoor recreation practices in Gothenburg, to describe gender patterns in outdoor recreation of Swedish urban areas. This subject is important to study because of the practices of outdoor recreation forward public health. Today many people suffer from diseases caused by stress and too little exercise, which could be prevented if they practiced outdoor recreation. Not everyone has the same possibility to practice outdoor recreation because of the inequalities between women and men. Since most people live in urban areas and that there is an inequality between women and men according to their outdoor recreation possibilities, it is relevant to study outdoor recreation of urban areas viewed through a gender perspective. This paper is a quantitative case study. The result in this paper is based on an analysis of questionnaire answers from a study about outdoor recreation habits made in Gothenburg. Therefore it is the outdoor recreation in Gothenburg that is being studied as a case in this paper. The questionnaire answers that?s been chosen by a strategic selection, has been sorted out to whether a woman or a man has answered the questions, plus to what the respondent has answered. Then the outcome has been analyzed and described in the result of this paper. The result shows that there are differences between the outdoor recreation habits of men and women and in the way they view outdoor recreation. The perception of what it is that restricts them in their practice of outdoor recreation, why they practice it and what qualities they find important in their outdoor recreation practice area, differs between women and men. Thus there are pronounced gender patterns in the practice of outdoor recreation in urban areas. Among other things, the result shows that women are visiting the nature more often than men on weekdays, but men are more active within more activities than women. Moreover the result shows that there are about 50 % of both women and men that would like to practice more outdoor recreations than they do today, which means that they feel limited in their outdoor recreation practices. The biggest limitation for both women and men is the lack of time. Thus women and men have different needs in order to make their outdoor recreation practice as good as possible. To give women and men the possibility to practice outdoor recreation on equal terms and conditions, it is important to have this knowledge at municipal planning.
