Utredning av en avdelnings situation på ABB Robotics

The pace of product development is increasing. It is important to keep high quality in theproducts even though the time for product development decreases. Those companies whichcan utilize previous experiences are positioned with a significant competitive advantage. ToABB Robotics it has become evident that the knowledge transfer process within the productdevelopment department is inadequate. This study was a result and an attempt to address thisunsatisfactory insight. The main purpose of this study was, through reviews of thedepartments? organisation, processes and technology, to provide recommendations with theopportunity to optimize the streamlining of the knowledge transfer process.An empirical study based on interviews and observations was conducted parallel to aliterature study. In the analysis, the theoretical framework was compared with collectedempirical data. Different areas were analysed, such as how different groups work together andhow the documentation process displays employee experience. It is also discussed howcomputer-aided systems can be utilized to facilitate information and the transfer ofknowledge.The conclusions show that the department has already started the journey towards a moreeffective knowledge transfer process. A renovation in order to accomplish an open officelandscape and a newly founded information letter to the employees are examples of this.However, there are also a number of areas with potential for improvements. The department isrecommended to increase the insight into the work of the different groups and developstructured work procedures in order to take care of previous experiences. Furthermore, thecompany needs to improve the knowledge transfer process by more efficiently leverageexisting computer-aided information systems.
