Det praktiska intellektet
timmerlagning med mallbr?da som exempel
This thesis presents a method of making repairs in log houses. The purpose of the thesis is to use this
method to exemplify crafters practical intellect. The method is based on the use of a template board to
transfer the measurements onto the new log. There is a dearth of literature dealing with timber repairs,
and the literature regarding using a template board for this is non-existent. The description of this
method has therefore been compiled from interviews with active timber crafters. The informant?s
description of the method has later been complemented with self-taken pictures. The pictures are used
to illustrate the current segment the informants describe. The goal is that the interviews and the
pictures together shall presents the method so it can be understood by the general public. The
interviews and analysation of these made it clear that making repairs in log houses requires a lot of
decision making and problem solving, which all need to be adapted to the current building. It places
high demands on the crafter, which uses their practical intellect to make their choices and solve their
problems. The practical intellect and the person withholding that intellect shall not be forgotten when
documenting the work on a historical building, because that can lead to a disclosure on parts of the
craft. Only the craftsperson can untangle the process as an entirety, and the entirety of the process is
needed if we want the buildings representing our cultural heritage to be preserved.
