Technical products are becoming more and more complex, this means that the drivers, mechanics and service personnel?s need for assistance such as the service literature is increasing. In this degree project the focus is on the technical manuals of Scania?s Workshop Manual. Today, the information in the Workshop Manual consists of collaboration between text and illustrations. Many users of the Workshop Manual are excluded since the information is text-based and some of the users are illiterate. The purpose of this degree project was to develop guidelines for how Scania may, through more visual information, design the Workshop Manual to include all users. I had contact with mechanics at Scania?s internal workshop to customize the design of the information in the Workshop Manual of the target group needs. Through various methods and theories in information design, it turned out that drivers, mechanics and service personnel need two different stages of information in the manuals depending on the level of knowledge. Step 1 is for experienced drivers, mechanics and service personnel who need concise information. Step 2 is for those with less experience who need more support in the form of more detailed information. In common, regardless of skill, the target group wants and needs more image-driven information. From this, I designed a manual in two steps that are tailored to the target group.
