The purpose of this study was to find out what thoughts some preschool teachers had about gender andgender work. The aim was also to investigate whether preschool educational orientation had any impacton how teachers thought about gender and gender work.The scientific method for the study was qualitative research interviews. The interviews were conductedindividually with four preschool teachers from two different preschools. The first preschool was agender-oriented school and the other was a non-gender-oriented school.The results of the study show preschool teachers have good knowledge of gender and gender work andwhat they mean in preschool, and this is regardless of the pedagogical approach the preschool they?reworking for has. The teachers also seem to value this work regardless of pedagogical approach. Theresults further show that differences were found in terms of the practical work with gender gets to beexpressed. The gender-oriented educators seem to focus on the major activities, for example workingwith gender-specific groups, and the non-gender-oriented educators seem to focus on the smallactivities, for example questioning the color of the birthday cards given to a girl and a boy. There aredifficulties with gender work and how they to some extent differ depends on the teachers? focus, ashared challenge seems however to be continuing to work towards gender equality, despite theexperiences of the community and the world around the children which does not seem to want to go inthe same direction.Keywords: Gender, gender equality, sex, preschool, preschool teachers
