ABSTRACTThe privatization of pharmacies in Sweden took place in 2009, in part with higher availability of medicines as justification. For a good adherence, the patients needs a good availability of medicines from pharmacies. The aim of the study was that two years after the pharmacy reform study older people?s opinions on drug supply and pharmacy services, and which pharmacy chains they know about and use. The method used was a quantitative cross-sectional study and was conducted using questionnaires. The number of participants who responded to the survey was 61. The result showed that most half of all the participants (n = 23) who answered the questionaire had ever experienced problems with getting prescription drugs from a pharmacy, out of these 11 participants felt that it happened often. The main reason for the perceived problem of the respondents was that the specific prescription drug was not available from the pharmacy's inventory (n = 23). Despite this problem, it turned out that 40 of the 58 participants felt that they could go to any pharmacy to get their drugs, and most participants (n = 41) chose to go to the pharmacy that usually have their prescribed medication without placing an order or to check availability first. Because of a small sample, no general conclusions can be drawn with certainty.
