In healthy dogs, heart rate fluctuates during the day. Heart rate Variability (HRV) reflects the autonomic nervous system´s regulation of the cardiovascular unit. Heart rate Variability shows the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, also called sympathovagal balance. Heart rate Variability can be measured by time domain - and frequency domain analysis. In a time domain analysis you study the beat-to-beat-interval (RR-interval) in an electrocardiogram (ECG), while a frequency domain analysis can be used to determine the size of the Variability.

At present, the Swedish pig industry is in transition. Prices have been low, but feed prices have increased. Therefore, many pig producers have stopped their production. Producers that lack an integrated production may contract piglet?s producers, or may use the mediation services that slaughterhouses provide.

Tidigare forskning har visat att selektiv uppmärksamhet (selective attention; SA) mot hotfulla stimuli kan predicera emotionella responser på stressfyllda händelser. Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka sambandet mellan sårbarhet för ångest i form av SA och fysiologiska samt självskattade stressreaktioner på en laboratoriestressor. Ett negativt samband mellan fysiologisk stressreaktion och SA samt ett positivt samband mellan självskattad stressreaktion och SA förväntades. Skillnaden i hudkonduktansreaktivitet (skin conductance reactivity; SCR) på subliminalt presenterade hotfulla och neutrala stimuli hos 41 försökspersoner utgjorde mått på SA i denna studie. Försökspersonerna utsattes senare för en laboratoriestressor samtidigt som hjärtfrekvensvariabilitet (heart rate Variability; HRV) och hudkonduktansvariabilitet (skin conductance Variability; SCV) registrerades.

Sheep have played a very important part in rural history. In Sweden there were many kinds of small native breeds, kept for their meat and fleece. Women cared for the flock that often had very little to feed on during the cold and sometimes harsh winter months. This meant that these sheep over time acquired special phenotypic properties depending on the environment they lived in, and easily fed compared to modern breeds kept for meat. Most of these sheep have since become extinct.

SAMMANFATTNING Denna litteraturstudie syftar till att utvärdera hjärtfrekvens och hjärtfrekvensvariabilitet som fysiologiska mått på mental stress hos häst. För att utvärdera detta har olika artiklar studerats. Artiklarna redovisar studier där hästar utsätts för framför allt mentala stressmoment. Under stressmomenten har antingen hjärtfrekvens (HR) eller hjärtfrekvens och hjärtfrekvensvariabilitet (HRV) registrerats. Hjärtfrekvensvariabiliteten kan omvandlas till ett antal parametrar, bland annat lågfrekvensband (LF) och högfrekvensband (HF).

The purpose of my project was to explore Variability. I wanted to combine different ways of sitting and create some kind of seating furniture that could be changed to fit different kinds of situations and needs. I sought after a way to express safety and stability in the seating furniture and at the same time make it clear that it could be changed into something else or something more. It was very important to me that the furniture piece would have a long lifetime and would be something you kept for a long period of time. I decided that the changeable factor in my piece would be the possibility to change it from being a chair for one person into being a bench for two people.

Stabilization of subgrade is an internationally common technique to improve the characteristics of a soft soil. Improving the stiffness and bearing capacity of the subgrade enables the pavement to be designed with reduced depths of subbase and basecourse aggregates. This makes the stabilization technique both economically and environmentally interesting. Both natural and stabilized soils have high inherent property Variability that should be considered when the characteristic value is derived. By analyzing the spatial Variability in stabilized and natural subgrades it is possible get the parameters needed for reliability?based modeling of soil properties.

Although Lean has received an increased amount of attention in the service context, research still has not established how successfully Lean manages to increase service productivity; since service productivity consists of both efficiency and quality. Research regarding productivity discusses the risk of a tradeoff between efficiency and quality in service production processes. Therefore, this thesis aims to explore if the tradeoff in a production setting with low Variability in demand and low customer participation exists, after Lean has been implemented. With a qualitative approach, a case study has been conducted at Scandinavian Airlines Ground Handling to evaluate the effects of Lean in the baggage handling process. The result of the study shows that the tradeoff has not been overcome; efficiency has increased at the expense of quality.

Athletes can experience short-term performance decrement without severe psychological or lasting other negative symptoms. Too much hard exercise or too little sleep can cause overtraining, a condition in which the subject can prevent to be away from the sport for several weeks or months. Previous studies have detected that it is important to avoid overtraining.

At present there are no good ways for mills to easily test the printing quality on newsprintpaper. There is a great need for a fast way to do this on different paper qualities; with a laboratory-offset press this can be both a time and money saving method. Luova, a changing piece of furniture for public spaces is a bench where the user can choose the degree of social interaction. Furniture for public spaces has a diverse audience ranging from children to adults. Some come alone, others in group. Some are sitting down for a short time while others stay for longer.

During the latest 50 years, the Swedish porcelain tableware industry has gone from being rather successful to experience significant problems. Our empirical study attributes these problems to underlying changes in consumer buying behaviour, whereas current generation theory supports our findings. The younger generation has significantly different preferences compared to older generations, with less focus on quality and more focus on Variability, and there is reason to believe that these findings also are applicable to other consumer purchases. The successful porcelain companies of tomorrow will be the ones that continuously can adapt to these and further changes in consumer buying behaviour..

In many earlier investigations a recall advantage of auditory lists spoken in a single voice has been found over recall of lists spoken in two alternating voices. One explanation proposed is an organization strategy which makes recall of alternating-voice lists so difficult. The strategy implies sorting same-voice words into same-voice groups at encoding. Based on this proposition, it was assumed that voice-by-voice recall would be better than recall in order of presentation, as then the recall instruction and the organization of items in memory would be in concordance. The present experiment tested and was unable to support this hypothesis.
