In this undergraduate thesis you will venture on a journey through the land of democratic values and Urban planning. My research question is stated as: whether or not Urban planning can show effects on democratic values and whether or not the municipalities in Sweden takes these possible effects into account when planning their city centres. You will in my theory part of this thesis be able to read about different views on Urban planning and on democracy. Famous authors like Robert D. Putnam and Richard Florida will be examined as well as other theorists on democracy and Urban planning.

Sverige är ett föregångsland när det gäller miljöarbetet men har inte tillhört de ledande länderna på vindkraftsområdet. Vindkraftsproduktionen i den Urbana miljön är sällsynt på den svenska marknaden. Uppsatsens syfte är att undersöka vad som menas med Urban vindkraft, belysa vilka problem och hinder finns för vidare utveckling och berätta om framtidsplanerna för Urban vindkraft i Malmö. Vidare försöker jag även redogöra för vilken påverkan Urban vindkraft har på vårt samhälle. Uppsatsen grundar sig på analys av artiklar som behandlar Urban vindkraft, studier av rapporter samt intervjuer med ansvariga för dem olika projektet som pågår i Malmö idag.

Urban Exploration går ut på att utforska övergivna platser. Uppsatsens syfte är att beskriva fenomenet och att diskutera det utifrån ett kulturarvs- och ungdomskulturperspektiv. För att kunna göra detta argumenterar jag, med utgångspunkt i litteraturstudier, för att Urban Exploration bör ses som ett uttryck för senmodernitet, med de särskilda förutsättningar för identitetsskapande och världsuppfattning som det innebär för individen. Som källmaterial har det Urban Exploration-utövarna själva skriver om sin verksamhet på olika Internetsidor använts. Min slutsats är att individen genom att fylla platsen med subjektiv mening skapar dels ett kulturarv, dels sig själv som ett politiskt och historiskt subjekt..

Detta examensarbete i landskapsarkitektur behandlar ämnet Urban odling med avsikten att identifiera vilka möjligheter och begränsningar det finns med odling i staden. Målet med examensarbetet är att uppnå en större förståelse och kunskap inom detta ämne. Varvsstaden i Malmö har valts som ett exempel för att illustrera hur odlingar skulle kunna implementeras i en central stadsdel som är under utveckling.Litteraturstudier har legat till grund för en kunskapsöversikt av olika aspekter av Urban odling. En kvalitativ miniundersökning har utförts för att ta reda på hur nyckelpersoner i Malmö från de tre kategorierna; politiker, tjänstemän samt brukare ser på Urban odling och dess möjligheter och begränsningar. Kunskapsöversikten om Urban odling i allmänhet och beskrivningarna om Varvsstaden i Malmö har fungerat som underlag till idéskisser för hur odling i Varvsstaden skulle kunna se ut.Resultatet av examensarbetet visar på att det finns många möjligheter med Urban odling och att det finns mycket att vinna genom att odla i staden.

Due to the growing population in Stockholm, some of the Urban green areas are beingsubjected to exploitation. Hammarbyskogen is an Urban forest in the south of Stockholm andis an example of a green area that is planned to be transformed into an Urban environment.This paper investigates key qualities and values of an Urban forest of Hammarbyskogenvalued by local inhabitants of the neighbourhoods of Hammarbyhöjden and Björkhagen in thesouth of Stockholm. In addition to that, the study seeks to investigate people?s perception ofthe planned development of the forest as well as investigate how these perceptions andqualities are being incorporated into the process of neighbourhood development.Using text analysis, interviews and discussion forums, findings have been made showing thatthe local inhabitants value the Urban forest mostly for its ecological and recreational qualities.Regarding perception of the change, people are either positive or negative to the developmentwhich can be explained by people?s experienced sense of place and place attachment of thearea and the forest itself. The study has also shown that the Urban planners rely on localinhabitants? view, as well as on expert knowledge during the process of planning.The results of the study contributes to a better understanding of why and for what purposesUrban forests are important for the city dwellers..

Sustainable Urban development is a concept that has become increasingly important as the Urbanization continues and more and more challenges are focused to the cities.  The Swedish government and authorities regulates and sets goals for how a sustainable Urban development is to be achieved. These laws and goals are vaguely defined, which leads to disputes between the actors about how the term should be interpreted. By examining Västermalms Strand, an Urban development project in Stockholm, this study strives to describe how involved actors interpret the concept of sustainable Urban development and what the consequences of this are for Urban development in Stockholm from an ecological, social and economic perspective. A case study has been carried out where a document study and interviews have been conducted. The interviews were conducted with four key actors from the private and public sector.

The purpose of this thesis is to explain one aspect of how and why the development in the third world is lagging behind. The precondition is that development through an agricultural revolution is necessary and that all countries benefit from trading. But these two conditions are not met today. By using the Urban-bias and the world system theory I have analysed how the situation appears to be according to the precondition. It appears that both the Urban-bias and the world system theory are essential to understand how and why the situation in third world still has not reached the same development phase as most other countries.

Ett möte mellan betong och glas och stål.Kvarteret Domherren som inrymmer Arkitekturskolan är på väg att förändras. Skolan ska flytta till nya lokaler och kvar blir ett omdebatterat hus. Denna betongbyggnad bevaras och genomgår en Urban remix - studentbostäder, kontor och publika verksamheter flyttar in i de gamla undervisningslokalerna.

Ett samarbetscenter i Urban miljö Detta examensarbete fokuserar på utformningen av ett samarbetscenter beläget i Urban miljö. Hur det kan integreras med omgivande bebyggelse och grön-struktur och vilken fysisk karaktär det ska ta. Vidare behandlas vilka byggnader som skall finnas i anslutning, vilka aktiviteter som ska utövas samt vilken form dessa ska ta. Utöver själv utformningen har omfattande arbete lagts ner på visualisering och presentation. Samarbetscenter Malmös syfte är att fungera som ett forum för äventyrsbaserad pedagogik och samarbetsinlärning.

Urban densification as a planning strategy is of interest in the planning context of today. It is also seen as a part of the sustainable development. Urban densification as a concept is commonly used in the discussion of a sustainable development. Thus, the question about Urban densification is an important challenge in the current planning context. A deeper understanding of the process which Urban densification has developed from is necessary, since planners then will be more able to manage this challenge.

Over 80% of Sweden's population lives in Urban areas, and half of the country's forest visits will thus be in Urban woodlands. Social values ??- how the individual experiences the forest, and the impact of the forest visits on individual health and well-being, are pointing to the importance of managing the Urban woodlands.When there comes to the cultivation of the Urban woodlands there are usually many opinions to consider.This study aims to investigate the various opinions on the use and forestry in an Urban recreation area in ??the City of Trollhättan. The study addresses both general and in four cases specific suggestions on management methods.Data was obtained from both quantitative and qualitative study through survey, interviews and discussions with the users of the recreation area.Trollhättan's goal with the recreation area is to make it accessible to local residents. The users are mainly influenced by the accessibility therefore clearings and thinnings are appreciated.

Rapid Urbanization causes competition over land use between green area preservation and Urban development in cities and greatly affects ecosystems as well as human well-being. This conflict is significant all around the world as many cities are now replacing existing green areas with new developments. The area around Dag Hammarskjöld's väg in Uppsala is currently experiencing the same conflict, as the need that the city has for new housing represents a threat for the many valuable green areas that are in the site. The purpose of this project was to understand how the need of Urban development and the preservation of green areas could be balanced. This understanding would thereafter be used to make a design proposal for the area around Dag Hammarskjöld's väg.

Urbanisation has increased the distance between the Urban and the rural. Urban agriculture can be a solution to overcome that distance. The characteristic of Urban agriculture is the intensive production in intra Urban and peri-Urban areas. Until 1950s food production in cities was an important part of the Urban economy and the Urban food supply. Since the 1950s the Urban located production of food has almost ceased in Sweden, partly as a result of cheap food imports.
