In May 1675, the local court in the northern Swedish parish of Nordingrå, which had approximately 1,000 inhabitants, held a preliminary investigation on 113 persons accused of witch-craft and Superstition. For the majority of the 113, the main accusation was to have travelled to Blåkulla, a place where witches according to Swedish folklore participated in satanic festivities and rites led by the Devil himself. The preliminary investigation was held at the request of The Royal Witch-craft Commission. Nordingrå belonged to the province of Ångermanland, one of the Swedish provinces with the highest number of witch trials in the 1670s. The trials in Nordingrå have, more or less never been examined before, mainly due to the fact that no sentences or penalties were ever imposed.The purpose of this paper is to examine social relations and social conflicts in Nordingrå with the records from the witch trial 1675 as the primary source.

This essay comprises a study of the bridal crowns of Tjust, with respect to their national history, concept and aspect of mythological symbol. The tradition of bearing the parochial bridal crown is closely associated with religious medieval politics, and has also come to include elements of Superstition and folklore. This study, based onarchaeological evidence and texts by ancient writers that reflect this ancient Superstition,explores how the evil eye was being averted and practiced by ancient cultures. What measureswere taken to ward off the evil eye? How have these measures been represented in thematerial culture? What can we learn from the context of the material culture involving the evileye? Discussions and theories of protective measures that have been depicted on the walls ofthe roman city of Pompeii will hopefully give a wider comprehension of the evil eye, and its influence on Roman society..

Denna uppsats är resultatet av en studie som genomförts i Norrala socken, med betoningen på folktro, vidskeplighet och skrock bland den äldre generationen jordbrukare på Hälsingegårdar. Även folktron bland nuvarande generationer hälsingebönder finns representerad, eftersom de yngre utgör dagens representanter på Hälsingegårdarna. Studien baseras på semistrukturella intervjuer utförda i maj 2007 och analysen av studien härleds till Ebbe Schöns teorier gällande folktron, där nödvändigheten av magi och vidskepelse bland bönder är framträdande. Sammanfattningen visar att folktro och vidskeplighet är begränsad, både bland de yngre och äldre generationerna i Norrala, även om de yngre till synes har en större förståelse för vidskeplighet och även anammar valda delar. Resultatet av studien visar att det finns möjliga samband mellan folktro, skrock och vidskeplighet, kristen tro och fornskandinavisk religion..

With the Torch of Reason the philosophers of the time were set on vanquishing everything untrue and lead mankind into what they themselves called the Enlightenment. Happiness had moved from Heaven to Earth in science, truth and pleasure.

The aim of this essay is to examine four floor mosaics from private dwellings in Pompeii. These 1st century floor mosaics decorate the fauces of the houses and they all depict watchdogs. The first question to be asked is if there are other common features between the houses that can explain why these house owners chose this figure. The second question is if you can reveal, from the existing knowledge about the house owners, the same information. The third question to be asked is if the watchdog mosaics have anything to do with the location of the houses in Pompeii.

?Life on a delicate thread?Baptism and godparenting in Bottnaryd and Ulricehamn 1781-1783The aim of this study is to discover if there were differences between the baptism traditions maintained in a typical rural parish and in an urban town parish in the period 1781-1783 and to suggest possible reasons for any differences found. Baptism records from rural Bottnaryd parish and the town of Ulricehamn were studied and compared. In both communities, parents were anxious to have their child christened on the day of birth or the day after. They did not want to wait until the following Sunday, as church law prescribed. Infant mortality was high and if the child died before it was christened, it would not go to heaven.

Syfte: Syftet med denna uppsats är att analysera utvecklingen av användandet av elektroniska business-to-business auktioner, utifrån ett kundperspektiv i fordonsbranschen. Metod: Denna uppsats präglas av den kvalitativa metoden, för att därigenom ge en ökad förståelse kring utvecklingen av användandet av e-auktioner. Inledningsvis har en litteraturstudie genomförts, varpå intervjuer med representanter för företag i fordonsbranschen gjorts. Slutsatser: Som utgångspunkt har vi valt uppskattningen att e-auktioner skall motsvara 25 procent av den elektroniska B2B-handeln i fordonsindustrin 2002. Det råder en övertygelse om att en betydande missräkning gjorts.
