The purpose of this study has been to analyze the image of Strindberg in today's upper secondary school. How is the author portrayed in the textbooks and teaching aids, and which parts of the authorship does the textbook and teaching aids authors choose to focus on?  This work has been implemented in the form of a textbook and teaching aids survey where eight textbooks for the upper secondary school from 1989 to 2008 has been analyzed with focus on the sections that consider Strindberg and his authorships.What emerges when studying these textbooks and teaching aids is that they give a rather synonymous picture of the man and the author Strindberg. Big focus is aimed on private life and the scandals that the author more or less voluntary became a part of. The majority of the textbooks treats matters as ?the misogynist? and ? the critic of society? and the so called Inferno crisis, and also when one discusses the literary works it is done in the light of the author's own life and accomplishments.When it comes to the author's literary production it is a very limited selection that is presented to the students.

Huvudsyftet med vårt examensarbete är att undersöka vilken August Strindbergsbild gymnasielärare har idag, år 2005. Utifrån ett litteraturdidaktiskt, -historiskt och -sociologiskt perspektiv undersöker vi även varifrån de har fått sin bild, vad och hur (varför, vem, när) de förmedlar den. Samma frågeställningar ställer vi även till ett antal svenska läromedelsförfattare som författat litteraturhistoria och antologier. Förutom det granskar vi ett urval av deras utgivna läroböcker som används av de gymnasielärare som ingår i vår undersökning. Vi använder oss av kvalitativa intervjuer till lärare, kvalitativa enkätfrågor till läromedelsförfattare samt analyserar ett begränsat urval av text och illustrationer i deras utgivna läroböcker.

The purpose of this paper is to study the image of Strindberg that is conveyed in four different textbooks for the upper secondary school. How do the teaching authors choose to portray Strindberg? Do they focus on any one particular aspect of his writing? Adjacent to this a subsidiary aim is to see if teaching authors highlight the fictional nature of Strindberg?s works or choose to encourage a biographical interpretation. The work consists of a study of four literary history textbooks in the subject of Swedish for the upper secondary school, from 2000 to 2012. In the selected material the sections focusing on Strindberg and his writings are closely read and critically analysed.
