The Streetscape is a complex environment with a lot of different parts and users. If you look at the Streetscapes main parts you have floor, walls, roof and furniture. The floor in the Streetscape, the street, consists of the ground and the paving. It can be made of a lot of different materials with both architectonic and practical functions. The walls usually consist of the houses. They have a big influence on the Streetscape depending on architecture, heights and widths.

The functional connection between the building and the Streetscape affects the city and its attractiveness. Stores located in shopping malls with their entrances facing internal walkways, creates segregation between the mall and the Streetscape. This segregation implies that the shopping mall loses some of its attractiveness, which may result in a so-called Greyfield mall. The expression Greyfield mall is used for shopping malls that have lost its visitors. Competition from new modern malls and a lack of investments are examples of factors that influence the development of Greyfiled malls.

Runt om Växjö återfinns många köpcentra som ständigt utökar vilket kan bli ett hot mot centrum. Växjö city domineras ur shoppinghänseende, av en enda gata, Storgatan. För att få ett mer konkurrenskraftigt centrum och dessutom ett mer spännande gatunät skulle en breddning av centrum därför vara positivt. Närmast tillhands för en vidgning är den parallella gågatan Sandgärdsgatan, vilken i dagsläget känns mer som en bakgata. Vårt projekt gick således ut på att ta fram förslag på hur man skulle kunna göra Sandgärdsgatan till en mer attraktiv gågata.

The main aim of this research is to survey the general colour scheme for private dwellings inVisby, built 1860?1930. During this period the visual appearance of the town of Visby changedsubstantially, since the increased local production of lime led to the plastering of many woodenbuildings. Which colour schemes were chosen for the different building types of the historic centreof Visby, and which colours came to dominate the time period? The methods used for answeringthese questions have partly been field studies on site and sampling of selected buildings, andpartly critical reading and observation of iconographic material (paintings, drawings, aquarelles,postcards and photographs).

Målet med denna uppsats har varit att undersöka och diskutera hur gaturummets skala och gestaltning relaterar till möjligheten för möten mellan människor. Uppsatsen har också undersökt huruvida även vidsträckta gaturum kan fungera för människor att vistas i, samt om det finns insatser som kan förbättra dessa gaturum. Uppsatsen syftar till att förstå hur Jan Gehl och Jane Jacobs erfarenheter kan tillämpas på konkreta platser i urban miljö, för att skapa ett analysverktyg att förstå stadslandskapet med. Begreppet ?mänsklig skala? används i hög utsträckning bland landskapsarkitekter, men det är osäkert om där finns en konsensus kring begreppets innebörd? Uppsatsens första del består därför av en utredande text kring vad detta begrepp kan innebära. Med hjälp av en litteraturstudie samt därpå följande observationer av två gaturum undersöktes huruvida det går att se kopplingar mellan teori och verkliga fall. Gaturummen observerades med avsikt att studera om, hur, och i så fall var sociala interaktioner förekom mellan människor.
