Understanding how innovation and renewal occurs in an industry is important for how to manage technical development for individual companies. It is also important for creating a beneficial industrial context for renewal, from both a political and an industrial perspective, in which new solutions can arise and spread through the involvement of several actors of the industry. How innovation and renewal occurs in the construction industry in Sweden is however viewed differently. One challenge that has been pointed to is that most of the work performed in the construction industry is organized in projects, which in turn should affect how innovation and renewal can be achieved. The aim of this thesis is to provide an understanding of how the project organizing in the industry affects innovation and renewal. This is executed through a case study of the construction of Skandionkliniken, a proton therapy clinic, and by using an industrial network theory that challenges the traditional view of how innovation is achieved.

In recent years the construction industry has been exposed to increased time pressure which has resulted in a higher amount of wastage. Today 35 % of all construction projects in Sweden is "wasted". Time pressure has risen due to increased competition on the market, with more actors entering the construction business, therefore profit margins decreased which has led to a more pressing need for decreasing the amount of wastage.Bravida is Scandinavia's largest supplier of installations and provides specialist services in electrical installations (heating and sanitation), and ventilation. Mahdi Bawaqneh's task was to investigate where, how and why wastage occurs in the company's projects and how to prevent such wastage. The thesis covers the subjects of lean production, communication in projects and planning of projects.

Kvalitetssäkring och kvalitetsledning är inget nytt i byggbranschen.Problemet är att många gånger gör dessa inte själ för namnen utanresulterar i en pärm på en hylla istället för att vara ett verktyg somanvänds för att säkra och utveckla kvaliteten i projekten och företagen.Detta examensarbete syftar till att i ett pågående byggprojektundersöka och ta fram en helhetsbild av hur kvalitetsarbetet iproduktionen ser ut och därefter ge förslag på förbättringar. Detundersökta projektet är Skandionkliniken i Uppsala som drivs isamverkan mellan Akademiska Hus och NCC. Ett av projektmålen äratt ta kvalitetsarbetet till nästa nivå. Beställaren har även valt enegenkontrollbaserad slutbesiktning som sker mot kvalitetsdokumentationenistället för den verkliga byggnaden.Resultatet visar att det finns en ambition i projektorganisationen attprestera bra och leverera ett projekt med hög kvalitet. Ett flertalanpassningar av NCC:s interna kvalitetsstyrning har identifierats iprojektet vilka främst kan kopplas till den egenkontrollbaseradeslutbesiktningen.

Denna studie syftar till att kartlägga VDC-arbetet i ett husbyggnadsprojekt ochdärmed bidra till ökad förståelse för hur byggprojekt kan genomföras med VDC.Användningen av VDC i bygg- och fastighetsbranschen drivs internt av krav påeffektivisering och externt av krav på högre kvalitet och produktvärden (ISO, 2012).En fallstudie gjordes hos ett svenskt byggföretag för att få förståelse för hurhusbyggnadsprojekt genomförs med VDC. Fallstudiens mål var att klargöra orsakertill att VDC-specifika aktiviteter upphörde i det specifika byggprojektet.Datainsamlingen utgjordes av intervjuer med personer som varit involverade i detstuderade projektet. Internationella, nationella och företagsspecifika riktlinjer förVDC-arbete sammanställdes till en analysmodell som sedan jämfördes medfallstudiens resultat. Utifrån analysen drogs slutsatserna att VDC-specifikaaktiviteter kopplade till utredningsstadiet utfördes till viss del. Aktiviteter koppladetill produktbestämningsstadiet utfördes i stor utsträckning.
