Hur upplever behandlare det att behandla personer som lämnar sekter? Vi beslöt att undersöka detta genom att intervjua personer som har erfarenheter av den typen av behandling. Fram träder bilden av ett kvantitativt litet men kvalitativt komplext område. Resultatet kretsar kring tre huvudteman, nämligen vilkadet är som söker behandling, hur vårdbehovet ser ut,samt framtidsorientering-hur de intervjuade upplever behovet av eventuella framtida insatser för att underlätta behandlingen. Våra resultat understryker att det finns ett behov av kompetent personal för att behandla patientgruppen, vilken tycks vara liten, svår att identifiera och med heterogen symptombild.

The purpose of this thesis is to study the personal problems that can occur when defecting from a destructive cult, and what kind of support you may need from social authorities. The aim is to develop guidelines for social workers who are in contact with sect defectors. It?s a qualitative study based on interviews with six defectors from Jehovah?s witnesses. The results shows that all the defectors that have been interviewed have had anxiety problems, lost contact with friends and relatives, low level of education, and low self esteem when defecting or after.

The purpose of the study is to investigate methods and work procedures that aim to motivate people to leave a cult and/or supporting them after a cult exit. The study was limited to investigate how Sweden?s, within the area, three premier voluntary organizations Föreningen Rädda Individen, Rådgivning Om Sekter and Hjälpkällan work with present -, ex ? and relatives to cult members. In addition to the mentioned organizations we have also investigated the work procedures and methods used by Åke Wiman. The study has got a qualitative approach and includes semi-structured interviews.
