Locally produced pork ? Västra Götaland
The interest for locally produced food has increased the last couple of years, and some consumers have a willingness to pay a premium for niche products like locally produced food. At the same time it seems like the Swedish pig production are in a negative development period. This study tries to see if locally produced Pork could be a possible factor which might affect producers in the county of Västra Götaland views on different aspects regarding their production. Consumers of Pork and their point of view regarding locally produced Pork were also studied. Surveys to consumers and producers were constructed.
Although previous studies claim the opposite, in the two locations (Högsäter and Uddevalla) where the consumer survey were performed, there were more men than women that always bought locally produced Pork.
A cost benefit analysis of public procurement of pork meat : imported, Swedish or locally produced?
Public procurement stands for a substantial part of the total food consumption in Sweden. The majority of the procured food is today imported and according to market trends it?s intended to stay that way. Imported food is favoured for locally produced due to price pressure. Consequently domestic Pork farmers have declined by 25 percent during the last twenty years.
The purpose of this essay is to evaluate how the big changes in prices are effecting
pigproduction. My calculations show how much there will be left for interests and
amortisation. I?ve chosen not to calculate the costs of buildings.
The condition from the beginning is a production of Pork with 10.000 pigs per year.
Instead of buying piglets, I?ve calculated on breeding them and for that purpose I will
need 440 sows.
I?ve investigated the working hours and given examples of how to decries these.
My conclusion is that with the prices we have to day, Pork production is a hard
business..
African swine fever in Uganda : attitudes and possible interventions to limit the spread of the disease
The objective of this study was to investigate the attitude towards African swine fever (ASF) primarily among smallholder pig farmers but also among other actors along the Pork value chain in Gulu district, Uganda. More specifically, the study aimed to investigate the specific
challenges facing both farmers and other members of the Pork value chain using participatory epidemiology (PE).
ASF is a feared viral disease of pigs associated with high mortality, which is endemic in many parts of Africa. The recent history of Gulu district in Northern Uganda can be described as turbulent and the human population has suffered during decades of war and civil unrest. Pig
keeping is considered a potential opportunity for business as well as a way of providing more animal protein in the diet. However, this is threatened by ASF as farmers can lose entire herds due to the disease.
This study can confirm some previously known factors and risk activities such as the free range system of pigs and movement of pigs and Pork during ongoing outbreaks, which make disease control difficult.
Fermented sausage : product development at Lindell's Gårdsslakteri
Product development is a risky business; many products never yield profit, but it is also ne-cessary for a company?s survival in a competitive business where the costumers change their requests constantly. Consumer-led product development is developed from the wish to fill the consumer?s needs and expectations and thereby be more likely to succeed. Lindell?s Gårdsslakteri AB is a local slaughter and meat processor in Västergötland.
Outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in Gulu district, Uganda
The demand for animal products has increased in the last decades, especially for poultry and Pork. Pork production has increased drastically globally, and also in Uganda. Thirty-one percent of Uganda´s population lives in poverty. Pig production is believed to play a crucial role in poverty alleviation, because of the ability to convert low quality feed into high quality protein together with high reproductive potential.
African swine fever (ASF) is a lethal disease of domestic pigs often characterized by haemorrhagic fever and with mortality rates up to 100%. The disease is endemic in most sub-Saharan countries and since 2007 in the Russian Federation and Caucasus area.
Hur kan de inte se att jag är muslim? : En intervjustudie med sex ungdomar med bosniskt ursprung om religiös identitet.
The purpose of this essay was to examine the role of religious beliefs, actions and practice in young people's own description of their identity. An additional goal was to examine how young people describe their identity in relation to their primary and secondary socialization. A qualitative method was used with semi - structured interviews and six young people between the ages of 18 and 23 were interviewed. The interview results show that three out of the six young people think of themselves as religious while the remaining three emphasize that they are secularized Muslims. The results also show that the young people emphasize that the celebration of feasts in the family is the main focus. Four out of the six young people point out that they are themselves among friends, their families and in the mosque, while the remaining two feel a communion with their Muslim friends and people in the mosque. Three out of the six young people consume alcohol and eat Pork, while the remaining three refrain from this. The young people emphasize that their beliefs are a personal matter between themselves and God, and that their actions don't define them as being Muslims or non-Muslims..
Effektivare hantering av foderspannmål : en fallstudie
The purpose with this work was to investigate some alternatives for an effective handling with grain, to find the most economic alternative.
It is not common that moisture content is below 14% when harvesting grain in Sweden. To store the grain safe it has to be preserved in some way. I have described some of the most common systems for preserving grain in this paper. I have used the systems as a basis when I made calculations in handling the grain for a company.
I have chosen a company placed in south of Sweden. The productions are crop farming and Pork.
Hepatit E - en zoonos?
Hepatitis E virus, HEV, is a frequent causative agent behind, especially waterborne, infections in developing countries such as India. However, during the last years the number of non-travel-associated infections in industrialised countries, for example US, Germany and Sweden, has increased. The symptoms vary from mild with nausea to icterus and it can even be lethal. There are four different genotypes of HEV and many studies consider HEV infection to be a zoonosis. Scientists have by using phylogenetic analyses found great genetic similarity between strains isolated from humans, pigs and food, such as Pork and liver, especially among viruses belonging to genotype 3.
Miljöberikning för grisarnas välbefinnande : Bökboxen - en prototyp för att motverka stereotypa beteenden hos grisar
The demand för Swedish Pork meat is increasing every day. This leads to agricultural farming having to develop as an industry, with larger and more rationalised units to make the farming more effective and to raise the financial profit. The consequence of this is that it affects the animals when their surroundings become more industrial. The pig´s natural behaviour becomes restricted by the limitations of the facilities, which leads to them becoming understimulated. Helena Kummel, a teacher at Munkagård upper secondary school and also an educated animal inspector has developed a prototype that could possibly replace the pig´s natural rooting behaviour inside the barn. The porpuse of this report is to study "bökboxen" in the gilts´actual living enviroment, through qualitative- and quantitative analysis.
Svenskproducerat proteinfoder till slaktsvin
Soybean meal from South America is the most common protein feed used for animal production in Sweden. Production of soybean has negative effects on the environment and the transports from South America to Sweden causes considerable CO2 emissions. Therefore it is a growing interest in locally produced protein feed in Sweden. Protein feeds that are possible to grow in Sweden are rapeseed, peas, faba beans and lupins. Those are adapted to the Nordic climate and are perfect to grow in cereal rotations.

Intresse för e-handel bland svenska lantbrukare :
Sveaverken is a company who manufactures products and equipment for the modern farm enterprise within grain, Pork and horse businesses. A large share of Sveaverken's turnover depends on the role as a subcontractor for Delaval within the areas ventilation, manure handling and feeding systems. Sveaverken wants to investigate the possibility to increase sales by establishing new sales channels, for example e-commerce
This thesis is an analysis of the Swedish farmers use of internet, attitudes towards e-commerce and Sveaverken's interest within this area. There is also a minor economic analysis of the cost of establishing the e-commerce site.
The study focuses on farmers who are potential customers to Sveaverken within Sweden.
To examine the farmers opinions about internet and e-commerce a questionnaire was developed and sent out in November 2006, to 500 farmers of which 45% answered.
The results show that the average age of the farmers was 42,5 years.
