In this study, pollen contamination (measured by the number of seeds pollinated by pollen not belonging to any of the clones on the seed Orchard) is compared between open pollination and isolated pollination environments in a Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) seed Orchard called Västerhus, located outside Önsköldsvik. In this seed Orchard a tent experiment is taking place. Skogforsk has built six large tents covering 12-14 trees with each tent. Fertilization patterns were compared between one tree in a tent with a supplementation of pollen from five clones not represented in the tent and another tree of the same clone subject to open pollination outside the tents. By using DNA markers the paternity was determined for 48 seeds from each tree.

Sortval f?r ?pplehagen: Odlade och rekommenderade ?pplesorter i Skaraborgs l?n 1880?1930
This thesis investigates the former apple Orchard ?pplehagen with a focus on its origin, history,
and remaining fruit trees. Historical aerial photographs, historical maps, an interview with a
former owner, together with a field investigation has served as the methods of this survey. The
investigation shows that ?pplehagen probably was established between 1882 and the 1930?s as
a rational Orchard in the spirit of the time aiming to produce fruit both for household and for
sale.
Vattensork och åkersork - skadegörare i svensk fruktodling
There are two species of voles that cause damage in Swedish fruit production: the water vole (Arvicola terrestris) and the field vole (Microtus agrestis). Both species make the most damage during the winter season. The water vole makes subterranean burrows and cause serious damage by gnawing on the tree roots. The field vole seldom makes burrows and gnaws the bark at the base of the tree trunk. In recent years there have been several reports about increasing vole damage.
The main purpose of this Master Thesis has been to investigate issues concerning apple fruit quality in Orchards of Äppelriket Österlen. The goal has been to develop a document, for future benefit towards growers and company management in the production of high quality apples. In order to investigate main issues of fruit quality, focus has been on statistics concerning apple varieties, age of the apple trees, new planting, Orchard size and growers opinions. Nine growers have been interviewed to investigate opinions and contribution of different growing techniques to increased fruit quality.
The investigation showed high age of the trees in production and low rate of planting of new trees. Differences in fruit quality were highest between small Orchards. Most growers were satisfied with their fruit quality and with their own measures made to improve it.
Frost hardiness of grapevine cultivars as affected by ground cover under Scandinavian conditions
Cultivation of grapevine is novel under Scandinavian conditions. We studied the impact of ground cover on frost hardiness of grapevine cultivars in Northwestern Scania in a two-factorial trial with four cultivars Solaris, Pinot Gris, Siegerrebe, Ortega and three kinds of ground cover (open soil, plastic cover and gravel). The study was conducted in a grapevine Orchard, planted in May 2009, in Broddarp on Bjärepenisula Sweden (N latitude 56°; longitude E 12°). Soil and air temperature were monitored continuously.
Frost hardiness measurements were performed every second week from late September to early December 2009. Frost resistance, LT50, was determined by electrolyte leakage measurement of the upper stems after artificial freezing at -15 °C.
During the autumn 2009, a 15 hp degree project was accomplished. The objective of the study was to describe different equipment alternatives, suitable for fresh market apple harvest. A field study was conducted during the harvest period to evaluate the efficiency (kg / person/ hour), using the different equipment. Four different systems are described in the study; Pick-ing-bag, Picking-train, Pluk-O-Trak and the Conveyor Harvester. The information about the systems is based on interviews with growers together with previous studies.
The goal of this work has been to search historical materials, to identify the park's historical development, to prepare proposals on measures and that work should be the basis for further research. The aim has been to train us in searching for and use of materials and to gain an understanding of the process of work with older plants. In the process we have sought and found materials in archives, through literary and oral sources, and email
contacts.
Because of its excellent location perched on an islet in the low landscape Näsbyholm was long a fortress. The old castle on Näsbyholm was from the late 1400s but the site was
fortified much earlier. The islet was at this time completely surrounded by water and there was a drawbridge over the narrow waterline.
The owners are liable since the late 1200s.
In the urban planning debate of today, two strategies for city development stand out as each other's opposites, urban sprawl and smart growth. This thesis concerns a development project of the latter kind and aims to give an alternative proposal to new buildings and a park in a Swedish city block. The term sprawl is used for new developments on virgin soil on the outskirts of cities leading to a city spreading, while smart growth stand for increased city density through development on re-used land within the city boundaries. The latter are often seen as more sustainable in many levels and are also shown to have positive effects on a number of city functions. At the same time smart growth has negative consequences on other aspects of the city such as public open spaces.
A boom in horticulture characterized the 18th century in Sweden and Skåne. Parks and gardens were gradually built out to become, at the end of the 18th century, large and comfortable facilities which responded to European parks. During the late 1700s the new fashion came to Sweden. In Sweden it was named ?the English style? which directly refers to the English expression ?Romantic style?.
Stureholm Manor and garden is a relatively young farming unit on clay soil in the north
western part of Skåne, a province in Southern Sweden. Since the middle of the 19th century
the landscape has been actively cultivated and has been transformed from oak forrest into
farmingland of high efficiency.
The industrial era during the 19th and 20th centuries meant new posssibilites for cultivation of
these clay soils. With equipment like steam ploughs and the possibility to obtain fertilizers,
the harvest increased considerably. This increased prosperity provided estate Stureholm with
a beatuiful corps de logi, a manor.
The trends prevailing in Europe around the turn of the century 1800-1900 against the growing
industrialism, was turned into a artisan movement known as Arts and Craft. The Swedish
followers idealized our Swedish history and they took the turn of a national romantic
movement that later turned into neoclassicism.
