This study focuses on Nationalism in Central and Eastern Europe. Anchored in theories that this region historically has been characterized by a Nationalism that is based on the ethnic group rather than on liberal or civic concepts, it is the purpose of this study to explore whether these theories still apply in recent times when the region has been liberalized, for example manifested in the entry to the European Union. The research question has been tested through analysis of the constitutions of a number of Central and Eastern European countries in order to investigate what type of Nationalism that the states have codified in their basic political documents. The results show that some of the states give expression to the historical ethnic Nationalism in their constitutions, which indicates that the theories still are relevant..

Climate change is a phenomenon that know no boundaries. While focus on environment and climate change has become highly prioritized, Nationalism has spread across Europe. Nationalism is by many considered to refuse action to combat climate change although some argue that Nationalism could combat global climate change. Previous research on how Nationalism is implemented in environment and climate politics has mainly focused on single parties. The thesis therefore aims to give a broad approach and compare how Nationalism is used in environment and climate politics by analyzing 4 European parties with either ethnic or civic Nationalism and different roles in their party system. With a qualitative content analysis on party programs and election manifestos the findings imply that parties use Nationalism in the climate and environment discourse in a variety of ways.

This thesis in social anthropology is based on the inner essence, manifestations and tendencies of Scottish Nationalism and regionalism. Mass communication today stands for a great number of information in the developed welfare state of Sweden. This was also the case during the social and economic financial crisis in 2008-2011. At this point, the majority of the population chose to turn to the newspapers to look for further information. This essay seeks, in a comparative and theoretical way, and with the help of two theories of Nationalism, to understand how the Swedish culture and tradition can be ex­plained via newspapers, and in what way these portray Nationalism. Uppsatsen undersöker vilken betydelse begreppet ekonomisk Nationalism kan tillskrivas för förståelsen av den svenska handelspolitikens utformning. För att undersöka detta kartläggs såväl förekomsten av olika handelshinder som i vilken utsträckning den nationella identiteten har präglat svenska makthavares sätt att argumentera då handelspolitiska frågor har diskuterats. In this thesis I have criticized traditional Nationalism theories formulated by Eric Hobsbawm, Ernest Gellner, Benedict Anderson and Anthony D. Smith. The critique has been based on my belief that Nationalism theories do not explain nations whose foundation is built on forward-looking, dynamic aspects such as economy, human and civil rights, and democracy. Traditional Nationalism theories have been focused on historicizing perspectives whereas I want to draw attention to non-historicizing perspectives within the field of research. So far Nationalism theories has had a shared past or a shared ethnicity as its focal point.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the role of Nationalism in the former Yugoslavia conflicts, with focus on the most involved parts: Serbia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The conflict was characterized by extensive ethnic cleansing between all ethnic groups (Muslims, Croats and Serbs). This study looks at three different Nationalism theories formulated by Ernest Gellner, Benedict Anderson and Thomas Hylland Eriksen through a case study of former Yugoslavia. When the president of former Yugoslavia, Josip Broz Tito died and the communism in Europe was brought to an end Yugoslavia went towards its disintegration. AbstractMedia presents hate crimes and Nationalism as phenomenon that has increased both internationally and nationally in recent years. Further media largely pair these phenomenon together. The groups mostly exposed to hate and Nationalism are people of different ethnic origin and LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer) people. In Sweden's general election in 2010 a RHP-party, Sweden Democrats, made it in to Parliament. The purpose of this study was to examine how hate crimes and Nationalism, in the form of the Sweden Democrats, has increased in Sweden and if there was any link between them.

The aim of this study is to provide an investigation of an ?old? political phenomenon that over the recent years has enjoyed a considerable revival across Europe. This study about Nationalism is mainly based on empirical second hand source material from literature and articles providing us with both a historical as well as a contemporary insight in this ideology. This study shows us the complexity and the difficulties that the academia is facing regarding Nationalism due to the dynamic nature of the ideology, in the sense that it simply means different things to different peoples in different cultures across different points in time.
