Odour-mediated behaviour in codling moth, Cydia pomonella : do fermentation odours affect the attraction and oviposition behaviour in codling moth?
The codling moth, Cydia pomonella is a common pest in apple orchards and can be found worldwide. Feeding by codling moth larvae can cause a substantial decrease in apple yield. Control methods comprise for example the use of pesticides, viruses and pheromones. As a sustainable control method, pheromones have been successfully applied to disrupt moth mating behaviour. Other behaviours like foraging, search for mating sites or host finding could be potential targets for additional odour-mediated behavioural manipulation but need further investigations of the underlying odour stimuli and behavioural plasticity.
Many insects are attracted to the smell of fermenting fruit and associated microorganisms.
Kastanjemalen Cameraria ohridella : livscykel och utbredning i Sverige 2006
Cameraria ohridella, the chest-nut leaf miner, is a new pest in Sweden. These Moths make leaf mines on chest-nut trees, preferably on Aesculus hippocastanum, which results in brown blotches on the foliage and early loss of leaves. Since the first observation in Macedonia in 1985 it has spread rapidly through Europe. The moth arrived in Sweden in 2003 when it was observed in Malmö and surrounding areas.
In this paper a literature study describes the morphology and life cycle of the chest-nut leaf miner. Further more a test with pheromone traps examining the number of generations in Sweden is shown.
Optimering av sotningsfrekvens i biobränsleeldad CFB-panna : panna 5, Mälarenergi AB, Västerås
During the past 30 years the fuels for energy production in heating and power plants
have changed. Fossil fuels have decreased in usage whereas bio fuels in Sweden
have increased with 60% since the 1970's. Different fuels affects combustion and the
release of various substances and particles into the flue gas. This is caused by the
diverse components and chemical structures of fossil fuels and bio fuels. When the
flue gas leave the combustion chamber and enters the path to the chimney particles
in the gas are being transported out of the combustion chamber.
The Swedish dairy sector is facing several challenges the coming years. One big challenge is how they will secure the access of their raw material milk in the future. The number of milk producers has decreased for an extended period of time, but was for a long time partly compensated by an increased productivity among the remaining milk producers. From year 2000 that trend was broken and also the quantity of milk produced started to fall quickly.
Milko is a dairy company with members from Dalsland in the south to Jämtland in the north. During the first seven Moths 2007, their number of members decreased by almost a fourth, from 1 272 to 974.
