The purpose of this essay is to examine how health care staff, in dementia care, feel that their work situation is affected by using two methods which are specifically designed for use in work with elderly persons suffering from dementia: validation and reminiscense.To examine this, we used a qualitative research method in the form of semistructured interviews with 6 assistant nurses/nurses. These nurses work in a living with dementia targeting which have recently applied the above two methods. Of the results reveals that nursing staff feel positive effects in their work through the use of validation and reminiscense. Examples of these positive effects are greater Inclusiveness and strengthen relations in the staff group, strengthen relations between staff and residents, reduced medication of soothing medicine and improved communication with the persons suffering from dementia. The results show that nursing staff feel that it can be difficult to absorb the working methods, the importance of sufficient time and continuous guidance in the exercise of the methods and the need for a genuine interest for them to generate positive effects.

It is a qualitative study that describes and analyzes how professionals deal with social issues of Inclusiveness and ethics in the investigation of cases involving interventions for adolescents. The focus is on the strategies that staff in social services expressed in terms of obstacles and opportunities for working participatively and especially when it comes to dealing with ethical dilemmas that may arise.    The method used was qualitative research interviews. Five social workers from two different municipalities were interviewed and the material is analyzed on the basis of socio-cultural theory and organizational theory. Themes that emerged were participation, ethics, discretion and flexibility, collaboration, organization, skills and time. The main obstacles that have emerged in the study are that those who work in social services have had been difficulties to fully create participation due to various factors.

The aim of this thesis is to investigate and increase the understanding of a present function of today´s public library, namely the function of meeting place; here called the social function or social space. Two small town libraries are included in the study, and the questions examined are:How is this function described at the two libraries and what similarities and differences are there between the two? How can one describe the relation between how the library as social space is described in research and at the libraries? The theoretical framework used in examining these questions, consists of three different discourses in culture policy (the discourse of state, market and civil society) and theories on civil society and the public library. A summary of current research makes visible eight different aspects of the public library as a social space. These aspects functions as parts of the theoretical framework as well.

Bakgrund: År 2050 beräknas det finnas 100 miljoner personer med demenssjukdom i världen. Att skapa stunder av gemenskap, försöka bevara patientens identitet och göra omvårdnaden personlig är avgörande för en god vård. Patienter med demenssjukdom har ofta kvar sin förmåga att sjunga och känna igen musik även i ett sent stadium av sjukdomen.Syfte: Syftet med examensarbetet var att beskriva vilken inverkan musik kan ha i omvårdnaden av personer med demenssjukdom.Metod: En litteraturöversikt baserad på nio vetenskapliga artiklar genomfördes; sex av studierna var kvantitativa och tre kvalitativa. Nyckelfynd identifierades och sammanställdes för varje artikel. Likheter och skillnader jämfördes och övergripande kategorier skapades som efter ytterligare analys kondenserades till teman och underteman.Resultat: Resultatet visar att olika musikinterventioner ökar välbefinnandet hos personer med demenssjukdom genom minskad ångest, minskad agitation, förbättrad sinnestämning samt uttryck av glädje och lekfullhet.

Rapid urbanisation is putting strains on both the landscape and the city dwellers and the pressure on planning for sustainable and equitable cities is crucial. As many cities in Sub-Saharan Africa are expanding, city planning has trouble keeping up to meet the needs of the growing amount of urban dwellers. Many cities have also been planned with the cars in focus and the needs and comfort of the pedestrians have been overlooked. The capacity of institutions is limited due to centralized government and bureaucracy, as well as corruption. Planning is erratically implemented and it is difficult to know what will happen.
