I have been inspired by the Do It Yourself movement. DIY builds on the creativity of the individual, one?s capacity for initiative and one?s desire to realise one?s ideas. I have been inspired by sheets of pattern paper used in the manufacture of clothing, and my line of Furniture is based on two-dimensional patterns of Furniture. The sections of the pieces of Furniture are printed on and relate to a standard sheet of plywood.

I have always been told that form follows function. But does it have to be that way? I decided to see it  from another angle.Kinesics is a term form non verbal komunication. In my thesis project I have been working with body language in Furniture.  I believe that Furniture, just like us, has an expression and a character. We often tend to desccribe Furniture with the same words as we describe people, for example: "A relaxed chair" or "a cocky table".

The purpose of the project was to design a Furniture collection that can be packed in flatpackages and be assambled by the buyer. The idea is that the assembling will give the Furniturean added value. I have tried to create a collection that is easy to produce so that the productwill be cheap for the consumer.The collections aestethic is inspired by Gothenburgs harbour The wide and bearing elementsof the Furniture has set much of its expression.Joints has been highlighted details instead of being hidden..

The aim of this project was to design a Furniture that raises thoughts and curiosity about how to relate to people you share Furniture with. Luova, a changing piece of Furniture for public spaces is a bench where the user can choose the degree of social interaction. Furniture for public spaces has a diverse audience ranging from children to adults. Some come alone, others in group. Some are sitting down for a short time while others stay for longer.

This thesis is about the effects of fertilizing and thinning on Furniture timber from redwood. Interviews of Furniture manufactures have been made and observing of timber from the Swedish fertilizing and thinning trails. The result from the interviews showed which properties that is important for the Furniture manufactures and then the result from the observation showed which type of management of the forest that gave the most timber that had those properties. .

During spring 2007, I Matilda Lindblom, undertook my Bachelor Degree project in Furniture Design. The supervisors were Agneta Stake at Nola in Stockholm and Leo Jóhannsson, teacher and examiner at Carl Malmsten CTD in Stockholm.The project was based on three elements:? Cooperate together with a producer for professional supervision? Learn to work from a given design brief.? To learn more about industrial production? Learn more about Furniture for public areasI contacted a Furniture producer called Nola AB, in Stockholm, who became my work partner during this project. The asked me to design a piece of Furniture where you can sit and work with a laptop on. The target was for public areas, for example in parks, malls, or at airports.In cooperation with Nola, my ambition was to develop this piece of Furniture that was the answers on their wishes and demands.

This paper examines the potential benefits of using augmented reality as a tool for visualizing Furniture in a buyer?s own environment before buying it. A simple prototype is developed and tested.  The steps for developing the prototype are described in great detail as well as the tools being used. The prototype is tested both on people working in the Furniture business as well as people with experience in buying Furniture online. In conclusion the results from the user tests are analyzed and the potential benefits are described.

The aim in this project was to spread play in the city and acrossgenerations. My way of approaching this challenge was to explore theborderland between playground equipment and street Furniture. Thisopened up many possibilities to afford play in places where playgroundequipment often is excluded.The goal was to create one, or more, Furniture with play value. The targetgroup was all vivasious people spending time in the public outdoorspace. Through user studies, a lot of serious playing and a lot of testing,the project resulted in a bench called Rollin´.

The title Urban Furniture for young people reveals that this paper handles two central phenomenon in landscape architecture; the form and content of the urban spaces, respectively the users and their need for an appropriate outdoor environment in the city. In this paper youth is referred to as 15-18 year olds and the paper is based on theories of their physical use of the city?s outdoor environment. Urban Furniture refers to equipment and components in the public room which becomes Furniture when people takes them in to claim and gives them a meaning and a function that is useful for the moment. The starting point is that the users, in this case youths, defi nes urban Furniture as something signifi cantly more than traditional park Furniture, bicycle racks and waste baskets. This paper aims to investigate how the city?s Furniture can be developed to meet the youths need to see each other, move and make their marks in the public room. The theories about how youths uses the city are presented in the Theory chapter.

When living in a small apartment one of the greatest challenges is to make to most out of the available space. Several different Furniture are used for different purposes.Another issues arise when having peopleover, which requires additional space andseats. On this basis, the project builds oncreating a flexible combination Furniture withmultiplepurposes.ThegoalistomakeapieceofFurniturethatfillsacertainneedwhilenotcreatingjustanotherFurnitureusedforasinglepurpose.Theambitionisfurthertomakechairs,shelvesandsideboardstospeakthesamedesignlanguageandworkwelltogether.Furthermore,thisprojectaimstounderstandandlearnhowadesignprocesscanbecarriedoutfromthoroughandmethodicalresearchtothefinishedproduct.TheprojectalsoinvolvedexploringchangeabilityandunderstandingwhatthiscoulddowithapieceofFurniture.TheresultisapieceofFurniturethatisprimarilyusedasabookcasebutcanbeeasilyrearrangedintoaseatingareaifneeded.Themodelhasbeenrealizedthroughaphysicalprototypewhichreadinessisclosetothefinaldesign..

As we dwell in the northern part of Europe, we who livethrough its gloomy winters need to find shelter in the warmthof our homes which cater to our well being. The object ofthis project lies in designing both a flexible, sturdy, and reliablepiece of Furniture that yields to one?s intrinsic needs.The aim is to offer a piece of Furniture that induces suchcomfort and exudes a feel good haven and refuge to each andevery one of us..

I have studied and worked with various joints and interpreted twenty-six of them to small models. I then placed these into a template so that I could record the properties and their expressions.The protocol show what the joint looks like, and what its strengths and weaknesses are. Moreover, they are translated into a freer text, a poem, that describes what I think and feel about the joint.Based on the protocols, I have selected a number of joints which I then interpret into Furniture. I have chosen to move forward in slightly different ways with different joints. Sometimes it is the expression of the joint that has given birth to a new idea, it may be the poem itself that led me on to a form, combinations of joints and that I found interesting, and so on.My interpretations are then further translated into new poems that describe what I see and what I feel when I assemble and disassemble each piece of Furniture..

The purpose of my project was to explore variability. I wanted to combine different ways of sitting and create some kind of seating Furniture that could be changed to fit different kinds of situations and needs. I sought after a way to express safety and stability in the seating Furniture and at the same time make it clear that it could be changed into something else or something more. It was very important to me that the Furniture piece would have a long lifetime and would be something you kept for a long period of time. I decided that the changeable factor in my piece would be the possibility to change it from being a chair for one person into being a bench for two people.
