Denna processundersökning på kandidatnivå beskriver inköpsprocessen och exponeringen av manga vid Umeås Filialbibliotek. Undersökningens syfte var att genom enkät- och fältundersökningar beskriva inköpsprocess, exponering och förmedlingen av manga för att kunna presentera nya förslag för placering, märkning och förmedling av manga vid Umeås Filialbibliotek.Undersökningen utgick ifrån följande frågeställningar:Var finner biblioteken information kring aktuell manga för inköp? Vad påverkar vilken manga som köps in?Hur ser katalogisering och uppdelningen av manga ut och hur går katalogisering av manga till vid Umeås Filialbibliotek?Hur ser bibliotekens utbud och exponering av manga ut? Finns det eller har det funnits någon plan för förmedling och exponering av manga vid Umeås Filialbibliotek? Finns det ett behov av mer förmedling av manga idag? Vad har tidigare och vad påverkar idag exponeringen och förmedlingen av manga vid Umeås Filialbibliotek?Undersökningen presenterar en kort översikt över mangans- och de västerländska tecknade seriernas delade historia, mangans plats på de svenska Filialbiblioteken idag och tidigare relevant forskning. I den tidigare forskningen presenteras moralpanik, populärkultur och skräplitteratur som en anledning till de fördomar som påverkar förmedlingen av manga idag och jämförs med Frankrikes starka seriekultur och marknad för manga.För att undersöka inköpsprocess, förmedling och exponering utfördes 17 enkätundersökningar i samband med 9 fältundersökningar vid Umeås Filialbibliotek. Detta visade att mangan ofta köps in utan urval, på grund av en brist på manga översatt till svenska.

The aim with this Master's thesis is to study the debate that takes place in the local community when a public library branch is threatened by closedown through the local newspapers. Through this it is our aim to understand why the debate takes place, and why so many people gets concerned with it. By relating this debate to contemporary research of library- and information science, and the discussion in three major Swedish library journals, we have found the answers to these questions. By studying the debate, we found six subjects that where essential for this study. These were Politics and economics, Urban and rural districts, Democracy and accessibility, The service of the library, The meeting place and To replace a closed down library.

The purpose of the present thesis is to investigate the interaction between the branches in the different villages and its users and the importance of the branches for democracy. To illustrate these points, I have focused on Högsby municipality, a local council in Kalmar county. Högsby municipality is of particular interest in this connection, since all seven of the branches have been closed recently; only the main library remains. Moreover, three of the closed branches were, in 2005, taken over by citizen organizations local to the part of Högsby municipality where the libraries were located. The specific issues that were addressed were:- What needs were satisfied by the local libraries in Högsby council and is it possible to satisfy these needs in other ways and then, how?- Does the absence of a local library affect democracy?Interviews were performed.

The purpose of this master?s thesis is to examine the activity at the library and preschool at Kristineberg (a part of the town of Borås) and its underlying approach. How do the activities agree with the ideological attitudes of the 1970s? To answer these questions I have carried out a case study based on qualitative interviews. The theoretical background includes ideas of the library, the community center and the cultural activity at the library.

The purpose of this paper is to explore branch librarians? ideals for mediating fiction and their view on the literature that are distributed by the Swedish Arts council. The study is based on the following questions: How do branch librarians reflect about mediating fiction? How do they express their view and their work with literature that are distributed by the Swedish Arts council? And which ideals of mediating can be distinguished from these expressions? To answer these questions a qualitative examination based on interviews with four branch librarians where used. The empiric material where then analysed by Jofrid Karner Smidt?s theory about different ideals for mediating fiction.

Syftet för utvärderingen är att, genom en enkätundersökning, försöka besvara hur nöjda besökare med annat modersmål än svenska är med Ålidhemsbibliotekets verksamhet. Utvärderingen utgår från två huvudsakliga frågeställningar: [1] Vilka är användarna i den aktuella målgruppen? [2] Hur upplever personer med annat modersmål än svenska biblioteket på Ålidhem? Informanterna i undersökningen talar elva olika språk och kommer från fjorton olika länder. Det vanligaste språket bland informanterna i undersökningen är arabiska. Det är en jämn köns- och åldersfördelning bland informanterna i undersökningen, men biblioteket har bara ett fåtal besökare i åldersgruppen mellan 20 till 30 år.
