Utgångspunkten för rapporten är två snarlika teorier om hur begrepp är strukturerade; The Dual Theory och teorin om psykologisk Essentialism. Teorierna säger att en egenskap som är definierande (eller åtminstone väldigt central) för ett begrepp har högre kausal status, alternativt, är perceptuellt identifierbar i en mindre grad, än en egenskap som endast är karakäristiskt för begreppet. En allmänt vedertagen uppfattning är att det är lättare att lära sig kunskaper och färdigheter som stämmer överens med de tidigare erfarenheter man har, än sånt som strider mot de erfarenheter man har sedan tidigare.I enlighet med detta antas i denna rapport att om teorierna stämmer så bör det vara lättare att lära sig skilja positiva instanser från negativa instanser av ett nytt (artificiellt) begrepp när begreppets struktur är förenligt (kongruent) med The Dual Theory och teorin om psykologisk Essentialism, jämfört med när begreppets struktur är oförenligt (inkongruent) med teorierna. Två experiment med syfte att testa denna hypotes utfördes. Det första experimentet gav inga signifikanta resultat, vilket förklaras med inverkan av en störande variabel.

I min uppsatts så undersöker jag om det finns någon uppenbar pedagogisk skillnad mellan behöriga och obehöriga lärare. I undersökningen så deltog två outbildade och två utbildade lärare. Jag gör undersökningen genom grundfilosofiskt perspektiv. Jag börjar med att ge lite statistik på hur fördelningen har varit mellan behöriga och obehöriga lärare från 1990-talets början till en början in på 2000-talet. Redovisar sedan fyra grundfilosofier Essentialism, perennialism, progressivism och rekonstruktionism.

I denna uppsats har vi undersökt hur etnicitet framställs och beskrivs isamhällskunskapsläromedel för gymnasiet. Vi har också haft för avsikt att undersöka ometnicitetsbegreppet problematiseras i relation till dess komplexitet. Vi har genomfört enkvalitativ textanalys av tre nyutgivna läromedels beskrivning och diskussion kring etnicitet irelation till två framstående perspektiv inom etnicitetsforskningen, Essentialism ochkonstruktivism. Etnicitet kan genom dessa perspektiv antingen ses som biologiskt och statiskt(Essentialism) eller som socialt konstruerat och föränderligt (konstruktivism). Detessentialistiska perspektivet anses i dagens forskning vara föråldrat medan detkonstruktivistiska anses vara mer nyanserat och därmed att föredra.

This thesis is a discourse theory analysis of two feminist anthologies - Det heter feminism! and F- ordet.  By analyzing these texts through the three categories feminism & feminists, gender equality & equality and sex/gender & sexuality I have raised questions about the feminist debate in Sweden in the 21st century.The discourse theory?s ideas of descriptions of reality and fixation of meaning lies as a foundation for this thesis. The concepts of social constructionism, post structuralism and Essentialism/anti Essentialism are central for the analysis as well as concepts connected to the three previously mentioned categories.The intention of this thesis is to describe and analyze a fraction of the Swedish feminist debate in the 21st century and discuss its meaning in a societal context. A number of conclusions were reached in the final discussion.

This thesis is concerned with investigating the Roma, a group that is left out in most of the territory bound theories. The theoretical purposes are to develop theories that increase the understanding for the Roma as a diasporic nation without state and the advocacy networks they are organised in. The main empirical purpose has been to study two organisations as cases and how they position themselves against the European Union concerning identity politics. The two organisations are European Roma Rights Centre (ERRC) and Dzeno. They are a part of the same network that works on different levels with the rights of Roma.

Uppsatsen är en kvalitativ studie som syftar till att se vilka värden Europeiska Unionen vill bygga på och uppmärksamma kvinnors underrepresentation i politiken i EU, och utifrån det diskutera betydelsen av social representation för att inkludera kvinnor. Vidare att se till för- och nackdelar med strategier som betonar individen eller gruppen.Uppsatsen utgår från kritisk, postmodern och feministisk teori och arbetar med metoden textanalys. Först studerar den EU-konstitutionen och jämställdhetsdokument för att ta reda på värdena och hur EU uppfattar kvinnors underrepresentation. Sedan diskuterar den social representation, Anne Phillips teori om närvarons politik och Iris Marion Youngs förslag om grupprepresentation som betonar gruppen och paritet som betonar individen. De två första riskerar att se kvinnor som ett homogent kollektiv och hamna i Essentialism medan den sista riskerar att dölja förtryck, vilket Youngs teori om genus som serialitet hanterar.Sammantaget prioriterar dokumenten demokrati, jämlikhet och jämställdhet och ser kvinnors underrepresentation som ett stort problem och en fråga om demokrati, utan att föreslå några aktiva åtgärder.

The thesis examines how sex/gender and sexuality are represented through text and images within the Internet community Sylvia whose primary target group is girls. Through an examination of the aesthetics, the member rules and the choices that constitute the framework for the site, the study observes Sylvia as a cultural context. In relation to this setting, the ten most visited member profiles at the time for the study are more closely examined. These profiles are studied from a constructivist view of sex/gender and are analysed from the perspective of feminist and quee r theory as well as in the light of feministic debates concerning sexuality and erotica. The thesis shows how Internet as a forum and the non-heterosexual context Sylvia open up for a constructivist understanding of sex/gender and also leads to a questioning of "masculinity" and "femininity".

The purpose of this thesis is to historically describe how Fédération Internationale deFootball Association (FIFA) interprets how the discourse of anti-racism has developed withintheir own organization throughout the years. In doing so, the thesis lands in a present timeperspective and then aims to identify the norms which FIFA, according to the organizationitself, stands for in regard to anti-racism within world football. That standard of behavior isthen put in contrast with the hidden ideological conceptions which, with the applying of apost-colonial perspective, can be found in the rhetoric used by FIFA in expressing themselvesabout their anti-racism stand.The methodology used in this thesis builds upon a qualitative text analysis approach inwhich solely primary sources available through the official website fifa.com are considered.The study finds that anti-racism is a relatively young concept within FIFA and that the communicatedideal standard of behavior circles around terms such as unity, diversity, solidarityand equality. Further on, FIFA clearly articulates how the universal power of football as suchcan unite people and that FIFA, as the administrator of this the world?s greatest sport, can setan example for the rest of the world to follow when it comes to notions of tolerance and solidarityin preventing racism in the future.In following the terminology provided by the post-colonial theorists Homi Bhabha andGyatri Spivak, and applying the concepts of fixity and Essentialism on the rhetoric aroundanti-racism, the study discovers that FIFA, in sharp contrast to the articulated norms, in factexpress ideological conceptions of skin as a barrier of difference between people, and thatFIFA on good grounds can be accused of reproducing racist stereotypes rather than bridgingthem.The study concludes that its findings clearly demonstrates the increased need of consideringsports, and more specifically international sport organizations, as a basis for researchwithin the academic field of International Relations, and that a postcolonial perspective verymuch can provide alternative understandings of how these actors operate and what influencethey might have in the international system..

Genom vårt examensarbete1 har vi för avsikt att belysa hur pedagogers talade språk kommer till uttryck i bemötandet av flickor och pojkar i förskolans pedagogiska verksamhet. Vi perspektiverar och problematiserar pedagogers språk i förskolan med stöd av två, så som vi ser dem, kontrasterande teoretiska tankefigurer ? den modernistiska Essentialismen och det postmodernistiska feministiska poststrukturalismen ? i syfte att visa fram olika sätt att förstå pedagogers ageranden och förhållningssätt i sitt bemötande av barnen. Vår undersökning lyfter fram pedagogers språk som en stark maktbärande faktor för barns identitetsprocesser och att pedagogers kunskap om sitt förhållningssätt möjliggör en breddning av flickors och pojkars aktionsarenor/könsroller..

Examensarbetets syfte är att undersöka påståendet om att homosexuella mäns identitet inte bör representeras i tragedi, på grund av genrens maskulina ideal. Istället bör representationen ske i melodram då genren relaterar till feminina värden. Textanalysen av två teaterpjäser, tragedin The River and the Mountain (Uganda, 2012) och melodramen The Boys in the Band (USA, 1968), visar att tragedin står för en essentialistisk (biologisk) syn på sexuell identitet medan melodramen står för en konstruktivistisk (kulturell och social). Kunskap om homosexuell kultur kan inte ses som en nödvändighet för en homosexuell identitet. Tragedi bör därför inte avfärdas som en politiskt svag genre att representera homosexuella män i.

The European identity plays an important role for the EU and especially within its will to further integrate its citizens, hence it is a way for individuals to not only identify with its nation, yet also with Europe. Previous research has already established that an individual can possess two territorial identities, such as a national and a European identity, above all it has established how the identities can equally interplay. Further it has been explained how territorial identities are composed of two aspects: civic and cultural. While the previous research has stated how the European identity possesses both aspects, though to varying degrees, little attention has been put to examine how individuals who possesses multiple territorial identification, defines its European identity. This study therefore aims to study which aspects, civic or cultural, individuals with a citizenship who possess multiple territorial identification, assign their European identity.

Syftet med denna studie är att ge en bild av hur skolverket i sin skriftserie ?Rapporter? förklarar betygsskillnader mellan pojkar och flickor, samt om detta kan säga något om vilken diskurs kring kön detta grundar sig på. För en bakgrund ger jag först en kort överblick över svensk skolhistoria som är koncentrerad kring kön och betyg. Därefter gör jag en genomgång av tidigare och aktuell forskning inom området. Jag redogör för mina teoretiska utgångspunkter, som är genusteori, diskursteori och socialkonstruktivism.

1994 drabbades Rwanda av ett folkmord vars omfattning betecknas som ett av de mest brutala i vår moderna tid. Drygt tio år senare innehar rwandiska kvinnor den högsta parlamentariska representationen i världen och har därmed gått om Sverige. I denna studie är det just kvinnors politiska deltagande som undersöks. Det analysverktyg som används i studien består av: Post-konfliktteori, Transversal politics, Critical Mass, Essentialism, Gender Mainstreaming och kvinnors empowerment. Med hjälp av dessa förklaras relevansen av, och bakgrunden till, fyra faktorer som har möjliggjort och bidragit till kvinnors politiska deltagande i Rwandas freds- och återuppbyggnad efter kriget.

Through discourse analysis of twelve Library and Information Science theses, covering the period between 1975 and 2007, this thesis examines representations of homosexuality and homosexual identities. By using queer theory as a point of reference aspects such as essence/construct, equality/difference, notions of gender and views on the historical and contemporary situation of homosexuals are brought to the fore in the analysis. It is shown how the material unequivocally posits the contemporary situation of homosexuals favourably in comparison to a past signified by prejudices and oppression. This can be seen as an implicit Essentialism in the texts, though ambivalences open up the possibility that it in some cases may be only strategically used while explicitly adhering to constructionist views. In linking concepts of a homosexual difference to prejudices, frequently involving notions of inverted gender performances or sexual ?extremes?, the discourse of progression posits normalcy and assimilation as positive values.

This thesis on the sustainable urban development has the intent to discuss the conservator?s position in alteration of the built environment. An essential component of the thesis consists of a case study in the form of an entry in an open architectural competition for the development of Furuset, an urban residential area in Norway. The thesis? discussion is based on two approaches to change and socio-economic transformations, considered being dominant within the heritage theory and practice: the production of ideas and great narratives and conservation as an instrumental tool.
