Omslagsbilder till DVD-filmer : Exempel på visuell kommunikation

This thesis is about Cover illustrations of DVD movies as examples of visual communication. I have studied the Cover illustrations of the three movies Gran Torino, Secret Window and As White As Snow. My research assignment has been to find out how the Cover illustrations of DVD movies communicate in relation to the story. I have also been looking for what makes a Cover illustration interesting and if the interest in itself is individually considered or if there are certain general rules regardless of the observer. To reach a conclusion I have been studying components in advertising pictures, visual communication and how the commercial producers use advertising to communicate with the observer. Semiotics, advertising and comparisons between the Cover illustrations have been my method for analyze.I have come to the conclusion that Cover illustrations are meticulously produced, and that every single part of them is important for the observers? over all impression and interpretation of the Cover illustration.

Estimation of reindeer lichen biomass by image analysis

During consultation procedures between forest owners and the Sámi, data on, e.g., reindeer lichen biomass on the current site is needed. Hitherto, the existing methods of measuring lichen Cover and biomass has been either objective methods such as the Point Intercept method, which is time consuming, or some sort of subjective visual estimation, which is faster but less accurate. However, both these methods are sensitive to different observers and/or to different inventories. This paper addresses the further development and evaluation of a photographical inventory method that uses colour distribution in images to estimate lichen biomass. During the autumn of 2011 six different locations, with different grazing pressure and lichen Cover, in Norrbotten county were inventoried using both the Point Intercept method and the photographical method, complemented with collection of biomass samples.

A picture says more than thousand words - an analysis of GQ Magazine´s Cover images and ninth grade student´s views of them is an essay in media and communication studies Covering 15 hp. This essay examines how men and women are depicted on the Cover of GQ Magazine and how ninth grade students perceive these images. Our research questions are: How is gender presented in Cover images? Methods used are a survey conducted at Tegs Central school and a semiotic analysis of the Cover images.

Frost hardiness of grapevine cultivars as affected by ground cover under Scandinavian conditions

Cultivation of grapevine is novel under Scandinavian conditions. We studied the impact of ground Cover on frost hardiness of grapevine cultivars in Northwestern Scania in a two-factorial trial with four cultivars Solaris, Pinot Gris, Siegerrebe, Ortega and three kinds of ground Cover (open soil, plastic Cover and gravel). The study was conducted in a grapevine orchard, planted in May 2009, in Broddarp on Bjärepenisula Sweden (N latitude 56°; longitude E 12°). Soil and air temperature were monitored continuously. Frost hardiness measurements were performed every second week from late September to early December 2009. Frost resistance, LT50, was determined by electrolyte leakage measurement of the upper stems after artificial freezing at -15 °C.

Hard competition amongst the editorial world of magazines today has led to increased differentiation of the content as well as the visual communication. In this study, the graphic elements of the magazine Cover was analyzed to establish how the magazines character is being conveyed by the Cover design. In a case study the Covers of the Swedish publications of fashion magazine BON and ELLE was semantically analyzed. The conclusion was made that the logotype plays the biggest part in conveying the magazine?s character. Secondly, the front Cover headlines shape and size matter a great deal for the overall impression.

Fånggrödor i Norra Östersjöns vattendistrikt

70 % of the lakes and waters in the water district of northern Baltic Sea do not reach the requirements for good ecological status. This is mostly due to eutrophication caused by a too high deliverance of nutrients from agricultural land or effluents. Losses of particulate phosphorus through water erosion contribute to a great extent to this eutrophication. In the action plan for the water district Cover crops are mentioned as a measure for reducing losses of phosphorus from arable land. This paper reviews the possible effect of Cover crops in the water district and discusses what crop that would be most suitable.

Cover Story is a project, which students at Lillholms - and Ekholms School worked in during spring and fall of 2009. Several school subjects were integrated in project; social studies, art and Swedish, to empower the students to create, implement and design a magazine. The purpose of the project was to give the students the opportunity to fantasize about the future and their dreams by creating their very own Cover Story. During the project I realized that the student?s selection of magazine genre had a direct relation to the gender of the students themselves.

In the 1970?s it was predicted that in the beginning of the 21st century there would be a timber shortage in Sweden and a large scale introduction of the exotic tree species lodgepole pine started. An introduction of a foreign tree species means a risk of a negative influence on the forests ecosystem. Today, the stands that were established in the 70?s are middle-aged and the effect on the forest floor vegetation can be studied.

Short-term responses of the field layer vegetation in a south Swedish deciduous forest after establishment of wild boars (Sus scrofa)

Inside the south Swedish national park Dalby Söderskog, wild boars (Sus scrofa L.) have been visiting since 2010. The presence of wild boars has earlier been proven to impact both soil and vegetation characteristics, both positively and negatively. Still, there is a lack of knowledge regarding the rooting effect on the vegetation in deciduous forest within the native range. In this study, I have compared the field vegetation collected before and after the invasion of wild boars in 74 permanent experimental plots. More specifically, the study aimed to qualify the effect of wild boar rooting on Cover ratio, species richness and species composition in a temperate deciduous forest.

This study was a qualitative analysis of the Covers of six lifestyle magazines, three addressed to women and three addressed to men. We have studied the Cover photographs, the teasers and their relations. The purpose of this study was to answer the questions: According to the magazines, what are male interests and what are typical female interests? Who is the ideal man and who is the ideal woman? Is there a certain way you need to look to be able to be on a magazine Cover? And how often do the magazines encourage you to consume? The study was based on thirty Covers, five from each magazine. The Swedish magazines are VeckoRevyn, Amelia, Damernas Värld, King of Sweden, Café and the American version of GQ. We?ve used semiotics and rhetorical methods to analyze the material.

: Biologiundervisning i närmiljön

Urbanization has for a long time been a threat to our biodiversity. Epiphytic organisms such as lichens have been negative affected by traffic pollution and the new urban environment surrounding their old habitat (van Her 2001). Another epiphytic organism is the green algae Desmococcus olivaceus. Unlike lichens the green algae is favoured by polluted areas. The aim of this study was to investigate if time in urban environments affected the Cover of the green algae on old oaks.

The effects of Gotland pony grazing on forest composition and structure in Lojsta hed, south eastern Sweden

Livestock animals affect their environment in a number of different ways, mostly through grazing and trampling. This study focused on the effects of Gotland pony grazing on forest structure and diversity, and the impact on ground Cover. To compare the fenced and grazed area with a reference area outside the enclosure a number of transects were used. The study showed that there was no significant difference in height structure and diversity between the compared sites; however, there were a significantly higher proportion of damaged trees inside the enclosure. The ground Cover variables showed a higher amount of bare soil, plant litter and wood-rush (Luzula sp.) inside the enclosure whilst grass was more frequent in the reference area.

Småhusutformning och solenergiutnyttjande

This paper goes through solar energy and what uses it has. It is also a guide in the choice of solar collectors forthe real estate that I have drawn for the thesis work.Solar energy is a renewable source of energy from the Sun's light. Energy can be used to produce both heat andelectricity through solar collectors and solar cells. Some of the benefits of solar energy is that it is completely freeto extract, environmentally friendly and virtually maintenance-free. Disadvantages are that the technology isexpensive, does not Cover the entire energy needs and takes a long time until it pays.
