Color has been significant in visual arts for as long as the art-forms have existed. Still images and movies have long used Colors and Color grading effects to affect the viewer and characterize the work. In recent years attempts have been made to bring these techniques of stylizing also to interactive games. This dissertation aims to compare two different approaches of performing real-time Color grading for games. Focus is put on examining the two ways from a number of different perspectives and from there draw conclusions on advantages and disadvantages of the approaches.

This is the result of a 10 week long study about if player behaviors and choices are affectedby the surrounding Colors in their environment. A number of players are asked to movethrough a virtual environment, while being clocked, where they have to make left and rightdecisions based on different Colors (red, green, blue and gray). While most choices consist oftwo different Colors, some use the same Color. The result shows that the players most likelyprefer one Color over another, and that they most likely prefer a non-neutral Color over aneutral Color. With these results and the interviews that are conducted the conclusion is madethat it is very likely the players choices are affected by the Colors in the environment, but it isnot clear to say how they are affected..

This project is about Color and light and how it affects the atmosphere in the city. I choseto look closer into the central parts of the city, a place where I often feel a lack of lightand Color, especially during the winter season. In the beginning of the project I made ananalysis of how intense Colors are used in the city and how we can use Color as a tool tocreate effectful spaces. Further into the project I chose to look closer into the effects thatare made by the facades, how the light from the windows affects the room outside when the dark falls. At the end of the project I caught a feeling inspired by the city and applied it into an installation of light..

This thesis work has introduced process orientation at the printing company Color Print Sweden AB. The outcome ofthis work is a survey of the work flow at the prepress department. To visualise the production process at the companya comprehensive mapping of the main process, order-to-delivery, has been made. The work has detected a couple ofcritical elements in the existing process. These elements are the following: initial check of material delivered to the prepressdepartment as well as the control made of the plotter print-out, digital test print and plate.

Lumilos is a work investigating the possibilities to use light and Color in an interactive design context. I have explored different light sources and compared them to each other and given a short description of the history of light and how it has been developed during the industrialization in the western world. I have also investigated what is currently done in the field and summarized that with examples in the categories passive-, Colored-, material- and interactive light. The conclusion is that working with interactive Color and light is a hard task. There are many different angles to take into account such as personal likings and earlier experiences that is uncontrollable by the designer. Yet there are many possibilities and light is a material that is moldable in many forms. I have put the knowledge about light and Color into practice and developed an interactive light wall that is visualizing energy consumption with the use of different Colors of light and animations.

The connection between fluorescence and Color management still is a relatively unexplored area. Thefollowing composition analyses the theory that when printing on fluorescent ink jet paper using ICCprofilesa more yellow print will appear. In theory the ICC-profile compensate for blue light that fluorescefrom the paper with the complementary Color, yellow. The human eye apprehands this fluorescentlight as white.When categorizing a number of ink jet qualities some tests to indicate change of Color in the final printwere made. Five qualities were chosen for further analyses, each with different white point.

In my project I worked with fluorescent Color and fear as a theme together. It was based on my question for what happens when you take all the lights out and highlight a fear or phobia. I wanted to experiment and explore the course of event within the surface of a picture by using this kind of paint.I worked with illustration and pattern to bind the two pictures together. The aim was to investigate what is possible with the picture as a medium and work with contrast to make it as effective as possible. My goal was to make one poster of each fear and to make them work together as a series as it?s best.I asked myself many questions such as;? What happens to the surface, image and room when you use this Color?? Will a new quality appear?? What happens when you mix two pictures together on a parallel level that only show in different kind of light?.

The earlier studies of how gender is visually constructed in lifestyle magazines have mainly been done on photographs. But, photographs are only one part of the entire magazine Therefor3, we saw the importance in examining one of the other big parts, typography.We have been studying if gender can be constructed in lifestyle magazines through the shape and Color of typography and the Color context. It is important to point out that we have not been studying the written word but only the shape and Color of the typography.The study has been conducted through a qualitative content analysis with a comparative process of the selected magazines. The analysis began with a semiotic analysis of selected parts of the magazines. The result was then analyzed with a feminist theoretical approach.The result of the study shows that gender can be constructed through typography in a number of different ways.

The problem of separating a non-rectangular foreground image from a background image is a classical problem in image processing and analysis, known as matting or keying. A common example is a film frame where an actor is extracted from the background to later be placed on a different background. Compositing of these objects against a new background is one of the most common operations in the creation of visual effects. When the original background is of non-constant Color the matting becomes an under determined problem, for which a unique solution cannot be found. This thesis describes a framework for computing mattes from images with backgrounds of non-constant Color, using Bayesian statistics.

I gained my interest for Color during my years at the landscape architect program. I felt that you as a student in design courses constantly were faced with the problems of Coloration. A subject that I perceived to be difficult, especially for us students that lacked the experiences from how a project on the drawing board turns out when it finally is built. As a professional landscape architect you there have a greater experience but I wondered how much awareness about Color you actually have as a professional. How does one think about Coloration and how can you use Color as a formative tool? And how does Color truly affect us humans? Does Color have significance for the experience of landscape architecture? The object with this project is to illustrate Color and it?s place in landscape architecture.

Michelangelo Antonioni (1912-2007) belonged to a generation of filmmakers that breathed new life into cinematic expression in the annals of modern-day European film history. By employing his background as a documentary filmmaker, Antonioni used these skills to help establish his own particular style. There was a distinct evolution of style which progressed during his triology L´Avventura, La Notte and L´Eclisse, 1959-1962. This theises presents a comperative study between his earlier films in black and white and his first Color film - Il deserto roso, from 1964. By observing Color in relation to narrative, dialouge, acting and elements of mise-en-scène, I suggest different answers than those previously discussed among critics concerning this interrelationship.

This essays purpose is to accentuate the meaning of the knowledge of the design elements Color, formand texture in the hair design education. Both the Bauhaus school and Pivot Point educationcampaign close knowledge in Color, form and texture. In my study of the literature I compared theBauhaus school with Pivot Point International Inc, study material for hair design education. From thesimilarities in this material I develop a project in Color, form and texture. This was a teaching test forstudents in the hair design education at the upper secondary.

The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to identify the relationship between Color and semiotics and how a person?s opinon, regarding a game character?s different characteristics, can be affected by the use of various Colors. Prior to this study people were asked, through an online survey, to write down words that they associated with different Colors. The Colors were then divided into four different groups depending on whether they had been associated with positive-strong words, positive-weak words, negative-strong words or negative-weak words. In order to further shed light on the effect of Colors, the four palettes, consisting of the Colors associated with the different words, were then used separately to give Color to two characters: a man and a woman.
