In motorsports competition, safety reasons require that the vehicle is equipped with some form of protective roll Cage. The roll Cage should withstand the forces involved in a collision to protect the driver and the co-driver from the vehicle body deformation. The roll Cage also works to protect the vehicle from excessive deformations to more easily make any repairs afterwards. For the roll Cage to be certified and approved for motorsports competition, it requires that the Cage is built after one of the recommended options. One of those options is to design the roll Cage like a cross-construction at the driver and co-driver doors.
The avowed aim in this project was to see how the Swedish egg production is today. My first question was if the Swedish egg producers egg production turn a profit. I have done five after calculation at five different egg producers with different systems from case to case. The difference has been the living system, the fodder and the egg price.
They made a report in Uppsala, Sweden (Hoffman & Andersson, 1996), where the look forward to a Swedish Cage ban and made calculations after that coming ban. After that they lift the Swedish ban of Cages and the egg producers could invest in new Cages who called the decorated Cage.
Produktionsbur som främjar hönors naturliga beteende
Today?s housing system for laying hens has limitations for the hens natural behavior. Despite the current law of prevention of cruelty to animals, this might implicate health problems for the hens. This degree project is aiming to improve the situation for laying hens in Cage-systems. The aim with our project is to bring forward a draft of a Cage that improves the welfare of laying hens.
Uppfyller lagstiftningen kaninens beteendebehov?
Rabbits today are used for different reasons. They are often held as pet rabbits but they also can be found at zoos, in laboratories and as a producing animal where their meat, fur or wool are used.
All rabbits in Sweden are protected by the Swedish animal welfare legislation. For rabbits held as pets, in laboratories or at zoos there are more detailed rules or regulations that defines for example how much space the rabbit must have or how the Cage should be enriched. For rabbits in the production there is no detailed legislation, which is a problem because their welfare could be hard to secure when the producers do not have any guidelines to follow.
Rabbits are social animals and therefore they should have the company from either one other rabbit, or from the owner.
The laboratory rat : improved welfare for mothers andpups through breeding in an enriched environment?
Maternal behaviour is crucial for the development of the rat pups? behaviour and stressresponses later in life. There are numerous studies evaluating the effects of the dams?behaviours on the pups, but not many addressing what can be made for wellbeing of the ratdams when breeding. Few studies have addressed the question of how the commonly usedrearing environment effects the dams? behaviour and in the long run how it effect the ratsreared to become our research models.
Bacterial contamination of eggshells in deep litter floor systemsand conventional cages in Jordan
This study was carried out in Jordan with the purpose to investigate the bacterial microflora of egg shells from Cage systems and from deep litter floor systems. Another aim wasto get a general impression of the hygiene, at farm level, of egg production in Jordan andthe factors affecting it.Eggs from two Cage systems and three floor systems were analyzed, regarding bacterialcontamination of the egg shells. Egg samples were taken from the storage room, the eggcradle in the Cage system and from the nest and floor in the floor system. To get a generalimpression of the hygiene at the farms, swab tests and air tests were performed. Swab testswere performed with a sterile cotton swab at the same units as the eggs were sampled andair tests were performed by opening petri dishes where the hens were staying.
Comparison of three IVC systems for mice, with focus on growth and nest building in juvenile mice
Today the individual ventilated Cage system (IVC-system) is the most commonly used system when housing rodents. IVC systems are designed to control both supply and exhausted air at Cage level, as well as temperature and relative humidity in the Cages. This creates an optimal environment for the mouse and at the same time a protection against the risk of cross-infection between Cages and the outside environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health and welfare for two different strains of laboratory mice (NMRI nude mice and C57BL/6NCrl mice) in three different kinds of IVC-systems; Arrowmight, Allentown and Tecniplast. 108 mouse pups from each strain (in total 216 mice) were selected after weaning at an age of three weeks and tested during 5 weeks.
Hund lämnad ensam i bil :
This project was initiated by a desire to improve our knowledge about animal welfare. It is a part of a series of projects involving the way dogs are kept in today?s society.
The aim of this project was to investigate the dog?s behaviour when left alone in a parked car.
The welfare of the laboratory mouse : comparison in development of mouse pups in three different individual ventilated cage (IVC) systems
Today the individual ventilated Cage system (IVC-system) is a commonly used housing system for mice in research facilities. IVC systems have HEPA- filters and are designed to control both supply and exhausted air at Cage level, as well as temperature and relative humidity in the Cages. This creates an optimal environment for the mouse and at the same time a protection against the risk of cross-infection between Cages and the outside environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health and welfare of breeding females and pups of two different strains of laboratory mice (NMRI nude mice and C57BL/6N) in three different kinds of IVC-systems; Arrowmight, Allentown and Tecniplast. The NMRI nude (Nu) females gave birth to 18 litters in Allentown, 16 litters in Arrowmight and 15 litters in Tecniplast.
Lately the popularity to keep different species of dwarf hamsters has increased in Sweden.
The requirements of the Swedish legislation to keep hamsters as pets are low which could be a reason for the increasing popularity. Hamsters are in nature generally nocturnal and can travel far distances to find food sources during their active part of the day. Their eyesight is poor, but is compensated by their well-developed hearing and olfaction. ?Run about balls? are made of plastic and the hamster is placed inside it where after the ball is placed on the floor and the hamster can then run protected outside the Cage.
Beteenderesponser hos farmuppfödda minkar (Mustela vison) hållna i stora och berikade burar :
The standard housing of farmed mink provides little opportunities for them to behave naturally and abnormal behaviours such as stereotypic behaviour and tail biting may occur. To prevent abnormal behaviours animals in captivity are often provided with different kinds of enrichments. The aim of this study was to investigate what kind of enrichment farmed mink use when they have several kinds to choose from and to observe if abnormal behaviours can be decreased with a larger Cage and a more multifaceted environment.
Totally 20 silver blue, 10 months old female mink were kept in traditional Cages (80x30x40 cm) for 7 days and in larger Cages (195x80x40 cm) with several types of enrichments for 7 days. The enrichments were wire net- and wooden shelves, wire net- and plastic cylinders, water bath, plastic ropes, branches, straw and tennis balls. One-zero scan sampling on behaviour and choice of place were performed during 3 hours and 20 minutes prior to feeding during 7 days per treatment in April 2004.
"Än en fågel, än en blomma" : En tematisk och dialogisk studie av ungmör och skaldinnor i Anna Maria Lenngrens dikter.
Anna Maria Lenngren (1754-1817) is known as one of Stockholms Posten?s sharpest satirists. Over the years many literature researchers have based their analysis and interpretations on biographical facts. This means that we miss important parts of her authorship, as she almost exceptionally has been writing role-poems. In a role-poem, the author takes a role as a fictitious narrative subject and/or another poem character.
Aggression between laboratory mice is a common problem and can result in welfare issues such as mice hurting or killing each other and also stress. Swedish laws and regulations clearly states that mice must be housed with a companion due to their natural social structure. Many studies have investigated the effect off enrichment, group size, Cage size and other potential changes in in their environment on the occurrence of aggression. Even with these changes aggression can exist and therefore a new solution was tested in this paper. The proposed solution was to house an intact mouse with a castrated one and thus fulfill laws and regulations while still maintaining the physiology of one of the mice for the purpose of medical experiments.
Art, music and the fabric that defines it - An inquiry regarding young musicians' views of the boundaries of creative expression
This paper is an inquiry that is trying to establish four young musicians' views of art and music. To define the boundaries of music and art and explore the possible similarities. The musicians were confronted with an artwork by Marcel Duchamp and a composition by John Cage, and have recieved a questionnaire where they were asked to express their views. They were also asked to point out qualities that define music and art and their boundaries. Follow up questions then try to futher clearify their definitions. The findings show that the group has a similar point of view where emotion and feeling rule over intellectualisation in relation to the creation of art..
