The use of earth Bricks in Scanian building traditionThe present work is concerned with the manufacturing and use of earth Bricks inbuilt heritage in the south Swedish province of Scania. The first part of the studyprovides a thorough description of the traditional use and manufacturing of earthBricks based on relevant literature, archive material as well as interviews withinformants. This forms a basis for the second part of the study in which practicalexperiments on and tests with earth Bricks where carried out. This involved themaking of traditional earth Bricks of different composition. The new handmadeBricks were compared with industrially produced Bricks (extrusion Bricks) and oldhandmade Bricks.

This project is about a transformation of an existing factory in Paraguay to a local sustainable refinery. The project aims to combine local knowledge and material and modern but low tech technology, this in combination with a contemporary form and new use of Bricks in Paraguay..

During the last decades major changes has occurred at the financial markets, meaning an increasing supply and a greater variation of financial instruments. The saving habits of the Swedish people have gone from traditional bank deposits to investments in equities, funds and bonds. All this together with the great rise in the stock market at the late 90?s has brought words like risk and return up-to-date, and is the background to the development of a new law concerning financial advising which come into force the 1th of July 2004. The contents of the thesis can be described as three Bricks, representing the survey questions.

The construction industry has not undergone the same logistical development as the manufacturing industry; this, in combination with increased material price, leads to the fact that the construction industry must be improved. This master thesis is a part of the research cooperation Brains & Bricks goal of reducing production costs for the construction sector by 25 percent. Brains & Bricks is a cooperation between Linköping University, Peab and Katrineholms municipality. The master thesis aims to identify improvements in the flow of material, the Supply chain operation reference, SCOR, model has been used and the work has been carried out on one of Peab?s construction sites. At present the business is characterized by bad communication both between the construction site and the office as well as between the construction site and suppliers.

It is a type of Bricks that are a bit like a sandwich element, with a core of EPS and concrete on both sides of the core material. The concrete is hollow, so that after the walls has been bricked up you pour concrete into the hollow Bricks.The issue of this report is to find out if concrete can be an alternative to wood as framework material in villas.

Ett av förskolans vanligaste material är byggklossar i trä. I denna studie undersökte vi hur barnen i den fria byggleken gick tillväga då de löste uppkomna problem, samt vilka matematiska aspekter de erfor i leken med klossarna. Barnens lek observerades med hjälp av videokamera, och det resultat som erhölls härur kopplas i studien till teorier kring matematik och barns lärande. De slutsatser som drogs då observationsmaterialet analyserades är att förskolebarn i byggleken får rika tillfällen att erfara olika matematiska områden. Dessutom möter barnen för dem relevanta problem, vilka de behandlar, och i vissa fall löser, på skilda sätt.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify and understand the difference between Brunius?, Zettervall's and Graebe's valueing of a historical building, the cathedral of Lund. Between 1833 and 1963 the cathedral of Lund went through three larger restorations. The character of the restorations however differs a lot between the three church architects, Brunius, Zettervall and Graebe. In a time of low interest for the Middle Ages and of many demolitions of churches in the countryside, Brunius stood out as a researcher and an enthusiast of that special time.

Being an architect I create spaces with roof, walls and fl oor. The availability of the essential materials to create such spaces is practically unlimited. The materials also play a significant part to the character of the created space. I hope to contribute to the general understanding of materials as elements in the design of urban spaces by having intensely explored one specific material in depth, pointing out its bad and good qualities. I am of the opinion that the reason for choosing a material shouldn?t be because of a shortage of knowledge, facts or references, but what character you want for the room. When travelling across Europe, it sometimes feels like clay paving is everywhere, but back in Sweden it is almost unseen of in modern landscape architecture.

This thesis, designed as a case study, is about complications concerning conservation of a decorative oil paint on lime plaster from the drawing-room in Mostorp castle sited in the county of Halland in south-west of Sweden. The building was built 1878-80 with an exterior of granite. The interior walls were made of clay Bricks, lime mortar and lime plaster. The oil paint is applied to a layer of putty. The combination of different materials, which are organic and inorganic, affects the movement caused by internal and external stress.

My thesis deals with the novel Ladies, written in 2007 by the Swedish author Mara Lee. When published, it was received as a book belonging to the chick lit genre but still got good reviews. This combination is really unusual and awoke my interest in the novel. My thesis is therefore an analysis whether Ladies can be considered a chick lit novel or not, and in what way it is similar to or differs from the genre. I start my thesis with an overview of former research of chick lit and what earlier was called trivial literature.

Solid waste management is one of the most essential functions in a country to achieve asustainable development. In India, it has been one of the least prioritized functions during thelast decades. The most common ways to treat waste in India today are open dumping anduncontrolled burning. These methods are causing severe environmental pollution and healthproblems. India is one of the world?s largest emitter of methane gas from waste disposal.Since methane is a strong greenhouse gas, even small emissions have large impact on theclimate.

Erasteel Kloster AB Söderfors have been commissioned by the county administrative board in Uppsala län to make an inventory of possible contaminations in theirs industrial- and landfill areas on the basis of the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency?s; ?Method of Surveying Contaminated Sites-phase 1? (MIFO-fas 1). The inventory starts with maps and archive studies, place visits and interviews, and finally a risk classification is done. A risk classification is a compilation of four categories; pollutant toxicity, contamination level, possible spreading condition of the pollutant, sensitivity and protection value of the environment. In this paper five partial areas (Holmen- and Jörsöområdet, Järnsvampsområdet, Ingsådeponin, Östra verken and Myrområdet) have been described from a historical point of view. Only parts of four areas have been risk classified (Holmen- and Jörsöområdet, Järnsvampsområdet, Ingsådeponin and Östra verken), due to that the other areas isn?t own by Erasteel Kloster AB. Holmen- and Jörsöområdet Holmen- and Jörsöområdet have during the entire activity time been carried out as the production core in the company.

2005 gick startskottet för ett samarbete mellan Linköpings Universitet, Katrineholms kommun och Peab med syfte att förena byggindustrins och samhällets erfarenhet med akademisk forskning. Detta resulterade i forskningscentrumet Brains & Bricks. En forskningsgren kom att bli bygglogistik, vilken sedan utvecklades mot att arbeta med SCOR-modellen för att utreda dess anpassningsbarhet till byggbranschen.Examensarbetet har genomförts inom ramen av uppdragsgivarna Peab och Linköpings Universitets önskemål om att utreda de logistiska flödena på Peabs byggarbetsplats Bläckhornet i Nyköping. Detta görs med syfte att undersöka SCOR-modellens anpassningsbarhet till byggbranschen samtidigt som förbättringsförslag kopplade till det dagliga arbetet på byggarbetsplatsen utreds. Fokus för studien läggs på produktions- och returprocesserna, men övriga områden som även anses ha stor inverkan på dessa undersöks.De fyra problemområden som valts ut och där fokus har lagts är:Godsmottagningen: Anledningen till området valts är att det idag inte finns någon strukturerad leveranskontroll eller leveransmätning.
