The society of spreading useful knowledge started to sell its magazine Reading for the People (RFP) in 1834. The idea with the society was to, through the magazine that contained useful knowledge, enlighten the Swedish peasantry. RFP contained Articles about agricultural and economy for example. My goal with this essay is to investigate how the use of foreign Articles in RFP changed over time. I?m also going to present a field and language categorization of the foreign Articles and study the Articles from Benjamin Franklin and Charles Dickens and investigate what kind of Articles they wrote.

This paper presents why and how teachers use newspaper Articles in the classroom when they educate their pupils in chemistry, biology and nature science. All the teachers have worked over 20 years and are, when interviewed, at a Swedish gymnasium in Dalarna. I also have, in a small study, interviewed some of their pupils to get their view about teachers using news paper Articles during lessons. The teacher?s use of newspaper Articles in the classroom can be divided in different ways. They can use the Articles to illustrate up to date links to everyday life.

Lyssnandeaspekter på retoriken i den offentliga debatten

The purpose of this study has been to investigate the extent of listening in a debate in the Swedish media. If the debaters listen to each other in a complex issue such as religion's place in society and if a debater who has a high degree of listening initially already in problem definition phase, has more possible solutions than the one that has a lower level of listening. The results show that there is a listening in all the Articles, but the Articles that have a broader definition of the problem also have a broader problem solving, than the Articles that have a more narrow definition of the problem. The Articles with a broader definition of the problem and a broader problem solving, have a predominantly agonistic debate strategy. Even if the debate rhetoric is primarily designed to win over the opponents, there is partly a genuine listening and an interest in finding new possible solutions. But despite that the opponents? arguments are mainly used to present the authors own arguments, the authors? intentions seems to be predominantly honest.

With the growth of information stored over Internet, especially in the biological field, and with discoveries being made daily in this domain, scientists are faced with an overwhelming amount of Articles. Reading all published Articles is a tedious and time-consuming process. Therefore a way to summarise the information in the Articles is needed. A solution is the derivation of an ontology representing the knowledge enclosed in the set of Articles and allowing to browse through them. In this thesis we present the tool Ontolo, which allows to build an initial ontology of a domain by inserting a set of Articles related to that domain in the system.

The aim of this thesis was to examine what expressions for objectivity there were to identify/find in newspaper journalism?s report about the FRA-law during the period 2008-06- 13 to 2009-10-14.We choose to analyze ten Articles from the morning paper Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet, five from each one. The method we used was a qualitative text analysis. We then designed an own model for the objectivity ideal from without the old theories that were available and also came with own ideas. Then we used that model as starting-point and designed key points to identify objectivity in the Articles. Our thesis showed that the Articles often fail when it comes to two key points.

The purpose of the thesis is to reduce the warehouse staff mileage by placing an article based on its number of picks, i.e. how frequently it gets picked. In order to achieve relevant results the following four questions have been answered in the thesis: How should the Articles be placed with regard to the picking frequency?Which factors, if any, needs to be addressed beyond the picking frequency when Articles are placed based on frequency? Can the present picking system be improved? Is frequency placement with regard to the picking frequency profitable to implement for the company? The thesis is based on literature studies and on the data that has been collected from the company?s business system.

Newspapers have undergone big changes with the progress of Internet and the newspapers establishment on the Internet. This adjustment to the Internet has resulted in differences between the content in newspapers and Web news sites. A quantitative content analysis and questions to Web authorities have been used in this study to describe what these differences are. During three days, three different newspapers were analysed and the conclusion was that many of the Articles that were published in the newspapers also could be found in the newspapers Web versions. At the same time a lot of the Articles on the Web news sites were not published in the newspapers.

This thesis examines the scientific publishing in the subject area of evidence based practice EBP in social work. Issues are: How has this publishing evolved, separately and compared to the publishing about evaluation in social work? What authors/countries have produced the largest numbers of Articles? What journals have published the largest numbers of Articles? Which are the most frequent co-occurrences of a selection of terms? 161 records for Articles from 50 different journals were selected from Social Services Abstracts using subject of journal and a query as criteria. For each year, the number of Articles about evaluation in social work was larger than about EBP. A decline in the publishing about evaluation coincide with a growth in EBP after the year 2000.

Vad skrev man om barn i dagspress 1882? : en kvantitativ innehållsanalys

The purpose of my thesis has been to examine the public debate in daily newspapers about children in 1882. For material I have used newspapers Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet from the year 1882. My study is based on a regulation concerning public schools from 1882 and a labour law concerning child labour from 1881. I have also examined other Articles that focused on children to get an overview of what the papers wrote about them. With the Articles I found in the Dagens Nyheter and Aftonbladet I have made a quantitative content analysis. As a method for the content analysis, I have used text analysis as a tool. As a result of my study I found a total of 228 Articles about children and of those 82 dealt with the elementary school regulation and the child labour law in various ways. The other Articles concerning children discussed issues such as how to raise your children, charity questions and accidents and crimes involving children. These Articles were written from a perspective where society showed concern over the children's environment. Often the Articles expressed great confidence and trust in the public schools as educators and as a place for learning and supervision..

The aim of this study was to examine the readability of news Articles published in the Swedish national newspaper Dagens Nyheter during the years 1999 - 2013. Our hypothesis was that the written language in newspapers is simpler today than it was 15 years ago. To measure the possible change of the written language in a quantitative study we chose to use a method to calculate the readability of 30 news Articles, two from each year. We could not see any development of the language level so we chose to do a complementary qualitative study of the layout and presentation of the news Articles. This secondary study showed a significant change in how news is presented throughout the years.

Lämna din kommentar här? : En kvantitativ undersökning av aftonbladets kommentarsfunktion

This study compares different Articles on aftonbladet.se and the availability of comment fields on the Articles. It is not possible to comment all of them and we examined which you could and which you could not comment on. The study?s purpose is to examine how well the comment fields on aftonbladet.se take advantage of the opportunity to create a deliberative discussion that the public may take part of. This study looks at what subject matters it is possible to comment on and if there are any statistical correlations between those subjects that you can?t. This study analyses 250 Articles on the news site aftonbladet.se with a total of eleven variables between the 26 of November and the 7 of December.

In this study we have investigated the news interview both from the perspective of the journalists and of the subjects of the interview. We have made interviews with 50 persons who participated as sources in the news and with 21 journalist who wrote the Articles in the local newspapers Östran and Barometern in Kalmar, the 21 of November 2008.The journalists were asked to tell their story of how the Articles where produced, how they prepared before the interviews, if they had an image of the Articles in advance and if they were satisfied with the outcome of the article. The persons who had been interviewed were asked to tell us how they felt about the interviews, if they were satisfied with the outcome of the article, if they could consider being in the newspaper again and to give their opinion of local journalism. Most of the persons who had been quoted in the Articles said that at least one or two things went wrong in the Articles. Despite this they would not hesitate to be interviewed the newspaper again.Surprising for us was to see how often the journalists get ?served? with both the news and the subjects of the interview. It was for an example often that the Journalists visited press conferences and wrote Articles from press releases.
