Densitetsmätningar och permeabilitetstest enligt EN 927-5 har utförts för att studera huruvida granvirkes fysikaliska egenskaper i kombination med applicerat färgsystem påverkar permeabiliteten. De egenskaper som studerats är frod- och senvuxenhet, splint- och kärnved samt densitet. Aktuella färgsystem som studerats är Alkyd, akrylat och linolja, vilka jämförts med omålad referens. Studien påvisar inget samband mellan virkets densitet och permeabilitet, bestruket eller ej. Det som istället tycks påverka vattenabsorptionen är närvaro av splint-/kärnved samt frod-/senvuxenhet.

The development of defoaming additives is steadily progressing and there are therefore always new and improved additives on the market. Some modern additives provide the desired defoaming effects by themselves, in contrasts to previous additives that needed to be used in combination with other additives. The task of this bachelors thesis was to evaluate the possibility of using these improved defoaming additives, with the aim to find alternatives that give the system better defoaming attributes while, at the same time, using less of the primary products. The tests were carried out in the coating type Teknocryl Aqua Combi 2780. The coating is a waterborne air drying acrylat-latex/Alkyd based coating that can be used for both single coat painting and primer.

This study aimed to evaluate the levels of formaldehyde and organic acids that can build up within enclosed spaces. Another goal was to compare two types of paints that can be used as coating barriers within showcases and in turn compare them to the modern, and by many highly recommended, material of Marveseal®. A low volatile waterborne Alkyd/acrylate paint and a two component polyurethane paint was compared to Marveseal® in two series of experiments. One series measured the level of formaldehyde, and thus the effectiveness of the three chosen barriers, and the other series measured the level of volatile organic acids, both the acids emitted from the paint itself, and that of the wood. One box in each series were not treated at all and was used as a reference.The fact that different types of materials emit volatile organic compounds have long been known.

Detta examensarbete har utförts under höstterminen 2008 på Högskolan i Borås på uppdrag av Flügger AB i Bollebygd. År 1994 köpte Flügger A/S upp HP Färg & Kemi och kedjan Flügger AB startades i Sverige. Idag har Flügger i Bollebygd 150 anställda, vilket gör dem till en av Bollebygds största arbetsgivare. Dagens fabrik i Bollebygd är uppdelad i fyra producerande enheter; Alkyd-, Latex-, Kemi- och Spackelfabrik. Fabrikerna rymmer produktion av vattenbaserad- och terpentinbaserad färg, träskydd, spackelprodukter, rengöringsmedel för industri och biltvättsanläggningar, samt målningsrelaterade rengöringsmedel.
