Removal efficiency of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) in drinking water : evaluation of granular activated carbon (GAC) and anion exchange (AE) using column tests, and the effect of dissolved organic carbon
Poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are a group of environmental contaminants that have gained increasing attention due to their potential to bioaccumulate, environmental persistence and potential toxicity. PFASs have been found in surface water, sediment, air, soil, sludge and ice caps globally, as well as in wildlife and humans. Furthermore, PFASs have also been detected in drinking water, leading to raised concerns for human health, since drinking water is one of the most significant sources of PFASs for the general population. Conventional water treatment techniques have shown to be ineffective removing PFASs, highlighting the importance for further research to develop efficient removal techniques.
The aim of this study was to investigate the removal efficiency of PFASs in water using two treatment techniques; granular activated carbon (GAC), type Filtrasorb 400®, and anion exchange (AE), type Purolite A-600. Additionally, the effect of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) on removal efficiency was studied.

From embankment dams is something that has long been noticed and given rise to different questions. The most serious question is if the sludge is a result of inner erosion through the dam, and thus consists of material transported from the dam. Concerns have also been raised whether the sludge could interfere with the systems drainage capacity and thereby lead to high pore pressure in the dam, or if the measurement of seepage is disturbed, as the measuring is usually made via Thomson weirs, which could risk being blocked.
The result of this investigation shows that the sludge is a result of the oxidation of iron by iron bacteria, and to the greater part consists of these oxides as well as the bacteria?s own structures. The iron oxidizing bacteria, FeOB, oxides ferrous iron to ferric as a part of their metabolism, and thereby create large quantities of iron(oxy)hydroxides.

In this essay a model of a potential illegal hunter?s decision-making is created and presented in order to provide an overview of important parts of the complexities associated with the current Swedish predator policy. A comparison is made between a livestock owner?s economic incentives, and the expected costs faced by the potentially caught lawbreaker. In accordance with economic theory the benefits and costs of illegal hunting are compared and thus the optimal choice is determined where marginal costs and benefits are equal.

BIOGAS POTENTIAL IN GRASSES FROM WETLANDSMarvin MartinsThe purpose of this study has been to survey wetlands that are suitable for mowing and to analyze the biogas potential in the harvested grasses. A preformed investigation showed that there are suitable wetlands, which can be harvestable, namely those mowed formerly in traditional haymaking. The practice of traditional haymaking is dying out in Sweden today but there are several good reasons why it should to be reconsidered. Nature- and cultural values are obvious, also the unutilized energy in the grass.The suitable types of wetland that were specifically studied were the productive wetlands; meadow marshes and wet meadows. These wetlands are represented in the Swedish meadow- and pasture inventory database; (TUVA) and the Swedish national wetland inventory (VMI).
Övervakning: Var går gränsen? : En studie av lastbilschaufförer som arbetar i Bohuslän och hur de ser på IT som hjälpmedel och övervakning på jobbet
Idag implementeras övervakningstjänster allt mer i olika verksamheter, särskilt inom transportbranschen. Implementeringen av övervakningstjänster möjliggör en bättre säkerhet och effektivare arbetsgång i form av att man som företag kan se bränsleförbrukning, lastbilars position och planera rutter utifrån leveransplats. Vi ville få kunskap om hur man övervakar anställda inom andra branscher och hur de anställda reagerar på övervakningen och utförde därför en bakgrundsundersökning där vi läste olika fallstudier från bland annat hemtjänsten, försäljningsbranschen och grundskolan. Vår frågeställning blev var går gränsen för acceptabel övervakning? Vi besvarade den genom att utföra intervjuer i två omgångar med tio respektive sex chaufförer som körde för företag i Bohuslän samt via en bakgrundsundersökning.
Belöningssystem - ett vinnande koncept? - Ett belöningssystems påverkan på motivationen inom en organisation
I följande studie kommer rekryterings- och utvecklingsmetoden Assessment Center (AC) attstuderas. Syftet med studien är att utifrån verksamma organisationers erfarenhet av AC skapa en ökad förståelse för; metodens innebörd, vilka argument som ligger till grund förorganisationers användande av metoden samt dess värde för organisationer. Studien är avkvalitativ karaktär och fokus fästs vid tolkning och förståelse av AC baserat pårespondenternas subjektiva uppfattningar och upplevelser. Studiens teoretiska referensrambehandlar; Human Resource Management, rekrytering, personalekonomi, Talent Management och Assessment Center. Empiri har samlats från sex verksamma organisationer, varav fem organisationer vilka arbetar med AC samt en organisation som har påvisat ett eventuellt intresse av att utveckla ett AC.
Elefanter och människor på Afrikas kontinent : en studie om konflikten mellan arterna
Uppsatsen handlar om konflikten mellan människor och elefanter vilket är ett problem på alla de ställen i världen där människor och elefanter lever sida vid sida. Uppsatsen tar sin utgångspunkt från skogsreservatet Thuma Forest Reserv i Malawi där konflikten är ett faktum. Ett fältarbete utfördes under en tre veckors period i reservatet och dess närområde i syfte att studera förvaltarna av reservatet det vill säga Wildlife Action Group (WAG) och deras arbete med konflikthanteringen. Metoderna som användes i fältarbetet var deltagande observation och intervjuer. Uppsatsen är även baserad på litteratur studier vilket innebär att ämnet är beskrivet på en mer generell nivå.
Utvärdering av fjädrande statorfötter : Nytt koncept i vattenkraftgeneratorer
This thesis is an evaluation of a new design concept for statorfeets in Gallejaur hydro power plant. Founder of the work is Vattenfall AB Vattenkraft. During the 70- and 80´s nuclear power began to be phased in to the Swedish grid, which meant that hydropower became an important source of rules. The generators began running in so called intermittent operations instead of basic operations, which meant 300-600 start/stop per year instead of one-ten numbers start/stop per year. In order to deal with the thermal forces that arise at every start and stop suppliers began to mount so called sliding joints, which is to take advantage of these forces and maintain the stator shape.
Mikrosensorer i nätverk
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the possibility to make small, cheap and ultra low power sensor platforms, connected in wireless networks for monitoring of home and industrial environments. The concept is based on ideas from our supervisor, Jerry Lindblom. The developed system consists of a generic platform for different sensors, a receiver and software. A GPRS module from RO Rollytech AB and a database from Gema Industri AB have been modified and used to demonstrate an example of a complete system. To the platform, it is possible to connect any resistive sensor and any sensor that can act as a switch.

Because of the number of ongoing projects Sales PM needs to be able to screen among these and focus on those where their help will be most valuable for the company. At the same time they have to know which kind of support their sales offices want and need.

The virus-mediated disease Rift Valley fever (RVF) was discovered during an outbreak in Kenya in the 1930s. Since then it has spread to most parts of Sub-Saharan Africa, and in the last decades several outbreaks have caused economic and health issues in Africa, Yemen and Saudi-Arabia. The disease mainly affects domestic livestock, causing abortions, but is also a zoonosis. To be able to control the spread of the disease it is important with surveillance for better knowledge about the distribution and virus circulation even in inter-epidemic/epizootic
periods.
The human population is growing, and people and their livestock constantly move closer to areas with wild animals which act as reservoirs for different viruses. Also, humans and their animals often get within reach for arthropod vectors, hosting or carrying viruses.

Schimpanser (Pan troglodytes) är människoapor under ordningen primater. De lever i grupper om 15-60 individer och bor i stora revir. De finns i vilt tillstånd främst i centrala och östra Afrika. In 1936 a governmental breeding project was started with aim on military use. The police later came to use dogs from this project as well. In order to utilize dogs that could fit for other purposes training and education of dogs for search of different substances and of guide dogs for blind persons was performed. A political decision to privatize the whole dog programme was taken in 1992.
During most part of the time one had serious economical issues since too few of the dogs that were bred could be considered to fulfil the basic demands for service. To satisfy the need of service dogs private bred dogs were bought as well.

I dagens kunskapssamhälle är arbetstagaren en investering i tid och pengar för arbetsgivaren. Det har medfört att det inte är lika lätt för arbetsgivaren att ersätta arbetare som tidigare, utan det läggs större vikt vid att hitta ?rätt person?. Enligt politiska beslut har arbetsgivarna tillförts ett växande ansvar för arbetstagarna i form av sjuklön, rehabiliteringsutredningar samt att organisera rehabiliteringsverksamhet på arbetsplatsen. Detta ansvar har gjort arbetsgivarna mer angelägna att veta så mycket som möjligt om arbetssökande och anställda, vilket har rest en fråga om integritet i arbetslivet.
