This essay examines the role religion plays in kindergarten. Today, the Swedish kindergarten provides child care for a secular and multicultural society where religion is considered a private matter that should not influence government nor the policy documents of kindergarten and elementary school. According to a study by Jenny Berglund, there is a so-called Protestant bias present in the Swedish elementary school. Protestant bias is shaped by a ?marinade? of liberal Protestant Christianity and has an indirect influence on how other religions are described, how religion is defined and how concepts such as religion, tradition or culture are viwed.The study was also based on Ninian Smart?s dimensions of religion, whichcorrelates to Berglund?s theory on Protestant bias.

?Med hjälp av mindfulness kan du leva totalt, vara total? : Religionspsykologiska perspektiv på coping och psykisk hälsa inom mindfulness

The use of mindfulness in healthcare is increasing in Sweden. A so-called secular form of mindfulness is also increasing within mediated contemporary psychology and is used in many areas such as schools, workplaces and when giving birth. The method originates from Buddhism and is much more complex than the form of mindfulness marketed in Sweden today. The religious heritage of mindfulness is interesting to study in such a secular society as Sweden, where the material for this study is found. The aim of this study is therefore to investigate whether mindfulness still is a form of religious coping or if it has become completely secularized, and thus free of its religious origin.

Att titulera eller inte titulera sig... : En kvalitativ studie om organisationers förhållande till feminism

Syftet med denna uppsats var att undersöka hurorganisationer som arbetar med jämställdhet förhåller sig till feminism. Vidare var det även av intresse för oss att se hur de valda organisationernas begreppsdiskussioner kring feminism och jämställdhet hängde ihop med hur man inom organisationerna förhöll sigtilltitulering och marknadsföring. De teoretiska utgångspunkter vi hade var institutionell teori, intersektionalitet och tidigare forskning som berörde feministisk titulering och marknadsföring. Då vi samlade in vår empiri använde vi oss av ett kvalitativt angreppssätt och utförde semistrukturerade intervjuer med sju respondenter som representerarfem organisationer. Dessa organisationer valde vi med hjälp av ett målstyrt urval där vi hade som krav att de uttryckligen skulle arbeta med jämställdhet.De huvudsakliga resultaten studien visade var att det inte finns några direkt enhetliga åsikter om vare sig de begrepp som diskuterades eller titulering och marknadsföring kopplat till feminism.

The purpose of this essay is to examine different conceptions of God children express in speech and image. The essay also concern how children's images of God are shaped in a secular and pluralistic society, such as Sweden. The children included in the investigation are in first and third grade in middle-sized Swedish town's primary school. In the essay, two methods are used, which is picture analysis and qualitative interviews. The material consists of 47 children's drawings and a smaller selection of interviews with the child's drawing as a starting point.

Simundervisning för praktiserande muslimska flickor : Hur olika sociala aktörer upplever att simundervisningen genomförs i den svenska skolan

Since Sweden can be considered to be a secular society it is interesting to investigate how different actors experience swimming education in the course syllabus of sports and health education, for practicing Muslim girls in middle and high schools. The investigation is based on qualitative interviews with sports teachers, practicing Muslim girls and the staff of the public swimming center in Växjö. The result shows that swimming education can be somewhat problematic, since the Muslim girls only want to attend lessons that are gender separated. In the public swimming center, there are no pools exclusively intended for women, and there are only a few times available for women every week. However, the teachers stress opportunities instead of obstacles, and the students? experience that their teachers are trying to create possibilities for them to have a gender separated swimming education.

This master thesis summarizes contemporary theories on secularization processes in the Western world, and compares these with the example of Sweden, which by many scholars is considered to be the most secularized country in the Western world.I do this by dividing the most influential theorists in five different groups. In each group I explain how the theorists formulate and motivate their positions. These groups are:1) The secularization paradigm, where secularization always accompanies modernization. (Therorists: Steve Bruce and Peter Berger (in the 1960s)2) The paradigm basically accepted, but revised to depend on existential security, rather than modernisation as such. (Pippa Norris and Ronald Inglehart)3) Religion returned in the public sphere.

Kvinna inför existensen : konflikten mellan existentialism och feminism i Inger Edelfedlts "Det hemliga namnet"

Med utgångspunkt i de två generella riktningar som tidigare läsningar av Inger Edelfeldts romaner tagit ? dels en som antyder en existentiell underton och dels en som framhäver ett feministiskt perspektiv ? har syftet med arbetet varit att undersöka den konfliktfyllda relationen mellan existentialism och feminism i ?Det hemliga namnet? och sammanlinka denna med Simone de Beauvoirs existentialistiska feminism i ?Det andra könet?. Då de två separata läsningarna av ?Det hemliga namnet?, som prövade romantextens överensstämmelse med de två ideologierna var för sig, korreleras med ?Det andra könet? framkommer att de två centrala punkter på vilka Edelfeldts roman skiljer sig ifrån den franska existentialismen ? nämligen att människan inte till varje pris MÅSTE välja för att leva i god tro och att gemenskap visar sig möjlig då människor möts i generös ömsesidighet ? också gäller för Beauvoirs texter. Ideologikritiska läsningar av Beauvoir visar att dessa avsteg från Sartres filosofi är ett resultat av hennes kvinnobefriande strävan: en feminism som hävdar att det är kvinnans eget fel att hon inte kan förverkliga sig själv som subjekt och som cementerar henne som den evigt Andre i förhållande till mannen, kan nämligen inte verka emot ojämställdheten mellan könen.

In this thesis I discuss how the western conception of reason is an aspect of power. I consider the western comprehension of rationality to be a masculine and ethnocentric understanding, though by itself acclaimed to be universal. My purpose with this thesis is to analyze how this western and masculine conceptualisation of reason follows a gramscian structure of power, which makes it reproduce itself in the postcolonial project of science.The theory of hegemony and ideology of Antonio Gramsci is central for analyzing the reproduction of the western subject of knowledge. The theoretical approach is also based on the understanding of the Other as essential for defining the identity of the self. My two main objects of study is one text of Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, which discuss the problems of representation, and one of Chandra Talpade Mohanty, in which she examines the tendency to neocolonization in certain western postcolonial feminist research.

Modernistiska och postmodernistiska aspekter av konst i offentlig miljö : En komparativ studie

This essay is about a debate concerning the magazine Axess, feminism and antifeminism - in relation to a issue of Axess called To a new feminism. The theoretical foundation of this essay is Pierre Bourdieu and his field theories. The battles taking place in this particular field concerns the positioning of feminism and antifeminism in the way we culturally interpret these in our society. The essay shows that the magazine Axess (at least in the first edition of 2012) links feminism with a very prominent symbolic capital in a culture context. This discussion can at times seem confusing, and this is probably due to the fact that Bourdieus symbolic capital can be a very abstract concept. The journalist and author Maria Sveland writes about the development of a culture moving towards accepting antifeminism (and also xenophobia). She expresses the opinion that this, to a high degree, is due to actors in the culture domain with a big amount of trust in the public eye has moved towards expressing anti-feministic (and xenophobic) views.

Volontärarbete : -God gärning eller hobbyverksamhet?

The purpose of this study is to use a qualitative approach to highlight the western involvement in Thai orphanages and, on basis of Western moral development workers and volunteers, enlighten how Western colonial heritage can be recreated in the humanitarian economic aid.The study is based on the recent tsunami disaster in 2004 which led to a huge voluntary effort by Western volunteers and organizations who wanted to rebuild the country. Now, seven years after the disaster, the country has recovered well and thanks to a strong turism, and industrial growth, the country has now reached the position of a middle income country with regional power.The study presents a selection of previous ressearch in the area from different critical perspectives. It is a field study based on qualitative interviews with six informants that highlights the individual engagment in humanitarian assistance. Theories based on Post-colonialism and globalization have been used in order to analyze and reach the result of this study..

Lika i värde, men olika värden : En kvalitativ och komparativ innehållsanalys av Feministiskt initiativs och Svenska kyrkans värden inom områdena mänskliga rättigheter och jämställdhet

This study is based on the notion of "the postsecular society". I have identified both similar and dissimilar values within current and official publications regarding human rights and gender equality authored by the Swedish Feminist Party and the Church of Sweden. The aim of this study is to identify and review similarities and differences in values, as expressed in definitions and standpoints, and also to try to explain how it is that the actors have similar and dissimilar values. In this context I have chosen the sociologist Jürgen Habermas's theory about "the postsecular society" to increase the understanding how and why similar values within religious and secular actors are presented in, what Habermas calls, "the postsecular society". I have used a qualitative and comparative content analysis for this study. The result shows that the Swedish Feminist Party has a more humanistic view.
