The purpose of this report was to investigate what characterizes a good psychosocialwork environment, and whether it may have impact on a Vessel's safe voyage. Thisreport is proposed to increase the understanding of what creates a good psychosocialwork environment and its potential effect on safety at sea. In order to find out thesuccess factors for a good work environment group interviews were conducted in socalledunstructured focus groups. During these conversations, the participants discussedfreely by the question "what is a good psychosocial work environment for you?? Thesuccess factors were thereafter applied on selected accident reports, to investigate theextent to which they were represented and taken into account.The results of the study show three categories of factors: colleagues, communicationand competence, where colleagues are the main contribution to a good psychosocialwork environment.

Hur dokumenteras blackout ombord på fartyg? : En studie av haverirapporter där blackout var en del av händelseförloppet
Ombord på fartyg är det inte önskvärt att få strömavbrott, en så kallad blackout.Examensarbetet har undersökt i vilken utsträckning det är möjligt att utföra jämförande ochförebyggande studier med haverirapporter från europeiska flaggstater som underlag. Detta föratt undersöka återkommande brister, på fartyg eller i arbetet ombord som har orsakatblackout. Dessutom har även möjligheterna till att kunna kategorisera fallen undersökts.Kategorierna var tekniskt fel, operativt fel och organisationsfel. I ungefär häften av fallen gickdet inte att kategorisera en blackout till ett fel, eftersom det annars var en kombination av fel.Däremot finns återkommande fel där händelseförloppen är väldigt lika. Till exempel var hetaytor inte korrekt isolerade, vilket resulterade i brand vid bränsleläckage.Undersökningen visar att det finns en bristfällig symmetri i rapporteringen av haveri medavseende på språk, struktur, omfattning och publiceringsform.
Maskinrums design och layout : Varför ett maskinrum ser ut som det gör och hur det går till vid planerandet?
This report is founded in lack of knowledge concerning the design and layout procedureduring a new engine room construction.The prime question is how the engine room takes its form from idea to construction and whathappens in between. We want to give the reader a better understanding in how the work isdone and why it is designed the way it is concerning layout, ergonomics and safety. Duringthis report we will enhance the knowledge concerning regulations and rules that are of greatsubstance such as SOLAS, Swedish Sjöfartsverket and IMO.By contacting the parties involved in the process in newly designing a Vessel and its engineroom, we will assume their approaches and experiences. We will study the work progressfrom planning to construction of a Vessels machinery spaces. We will with the help ofinterviews with interested parties get an idea of the approach and also compare the finishedproduct a bit depending on company size and resources.The investigation resulted in a good basis for how a ship engine room design takes shape andwhich aspects are taken into account, however, we found that the existing rules concerningengine room layout was very vague and was seen as the most recommendations.
Kemikalier som en del av arbetsmiljön : En fallstudie om hantering av och risker med kemikalier ombord på en svensk passagerarfärja
Kemikalier hanteras i det dagliga arbetet ombord. Syftet med den här studien var att ta reda på hur kemikalier hanteras ombord på en svensk passagerarfärja. Frågeställningarna koncentrerades på produkt- och metodval, kommunikation och tillämpning av rutiner och instruktioner samt riskmedvetenhet hos besättningen. Studien genomfördes som en enfallsstudie och bestod av dokumentanalyser, observationer och intervjuer med besättningsmedlemmar. Resultatet visar att informanterna på däcks- och maskinavdelningarna hade stora möjligheter att påverka arbetssituationen vad gäller hantering av kemikalier till skillnad från informanten på intendenturavdelningen som enbart hade begränsad möjlighet att påverka.

Today, the catering personnel are an essential part of the safety organization on board Swedish passenger Vessels in ferry services. Their responsibilities for the safety on board have increased in connection with the changes in regulations made on the shipping industry. These changes have been mostly related to human factors and structural leadership in the last 25 years.A well-functioning safety organization requires competence and commitment from every individual. Previous researches on Swedish passenger ferries concerning the safety organization have raised issues regarding the catering personnel?s perception of the safety on board.
Investigation of tissue factor mRNA levels in human platelets using real-time PCR
Tissue factor (TF), a 47 kDa glycoprotein, is the initiator of the extrinsic pathway of blood coagulation and consequently of the upmost importance when damage to blood Vessel occurs. The source of TF in circulation has been investigated. However, the source of TF is still not clear. One theory is that platelets express and increases the expression of TF after stimulation and the aim of our report was to investigate whether platelets really are a source for TF in circulation.Using specific primers for TF mRNA, platelets in plasma from healthy volunteers and from patients suffering from cardiac infarction were analyzed by using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Gel electrophoresis was performed after amplification of TF mRNA to verify the results.The samples were negative for TF when using real-time PCR and the few positive all had cycle threshold (Ct) values above 35.
Elanslutning av fartyg i hamn : en studie om förutsättningar och konsekvenser för Köpings och Västerås hamn
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the possibilities for shore side electricity in the ports of Västerås and Köping. A technical solution to connect the Vessels to the local grid is suggested and the investigation is also aiming at an understanding of how the environment is affected by the use of shore side electricity. Furthermore, the costs of shore side electricity are considered.The maximum power demand of a Vessel visiting the ports today is relatively small, but the ships visiting the ports in the future might have a larger power demand. The suggested dimension for the system is 5 MW and the result shows that the shore side electricity requires the power distribution to the ports to be expanded. The most useful solution in the ports is to connect the ships with 12 kV from a connection box in a pit at the quay.The investigation of the costs shows that it is cheaper for the ships to use electricity compared to the marine fuel.

Uppskattning av Ytkurvatur och CFD-simuleringar i Mänskliga Bukaortor
By applying a segmentation procedure to two different sets of computed tomography scans, two geometrical models of the abdominal aorta, containing one inlet and two outlets have been constructed. One of these depicts a healthy blood Vessel while the other displays one afflicted with a Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. After inputting these geometries into the computational dynamics software FLUENT, six simulations of laminar, stationary flow of a fluid that was assumed to be Newtonian were performed. The mass flow rate across the model outlet boundaries was varied for the different simulations to produce a basis for a parameter analysis study. The segmentation data was also used as input data to a surface description procedure which produced not only the surface itself, but also the first and second directional derivatives in every one of its defining spatial data points.

Dricksvattnet ombord på Sjöfartshögskolans fartyg Calmare Nyckel har vid tidigare provtagning visat på undermålig kvalitet. Orsaken till detta har inte undersökts innan. I detta arbete undersöks och identifieras orsaken och ett underlag för förbättring av vattenkvaliteten har tagits fram. Underlaget omfattas också av en arbetsbeskrivning för ombyggnation av färskvattensystemet och ett underlag för installation av en färskvattenproducerande anläggning. För att kontrollera vattenkvaliteten ombord genomfördes vattenprover och en undersökning av färskvattensystemet med endoskop.

The Veiled Party: A Discourse Analysis of Sweden Democratic Texts aims to further the understanding of the underlying ideology of the Sweden Democratic party, by revealing whether or not there is any ideological content that include race, racialization, and racism in the party?s political texts. The study offers a background description of the discursive change in the social and political climate of debate in Sweden, which opened a policy window for xenophobic agenda setting. In addition, the study delivers a presentation of the public debate regarding the Sweden Democrats, as well as statements by party representatives.Through a social constructionist and discourse analytic framework, the study aims at understanding how the application of racial ideas are done and mapped. The core of the theoretical framework is a critical race and whiteness theoretical approach.
HAVS ombord - en studie av hand- och armvibrationssyndrom och dess förebyggande åtgärder
On board ships different type of maintenance activities take place. Some of those require working with vibrating handheld tools. Traditionally there is a high awareness of the risks with different type of duties such as protecting the skin from oil or other chemicals, the eyes from splashes and hearing from high noise levels. The experience we have from our time as on-board cadets are that there is less information about vibration hazards available compared to the information concerning other hazards on board.There are threshold values that workers, by law, are not allowed to exceed when working with handheld vibrating tools. The purpose of this study is to investigate how common the use of this type of equipment that can cause damage by vibrations, to the hands and arm amongst the deck crew, and if the crew informed about the risks involved.

To be ableto grasp these thoughts in full I have undergone an investigation not only on the writingsof Slavoj ?i?ek, but also on the philosophers to whom he owe much of his theories,such as G.W.F. Hegel, Friedriech Schelling, Karl Marx and Jaques Lacan.In the study I have shown how the subject is, according to ?i?eks psychoanalytictheories, decentered.
