Hur min dyslexi påverkar mitt författarskap

The aim of this essay is to examine three separate Swedish public libraries and their respective websites on the grounds of the Usability sciences. I firstly had to summarize the main properties of the Usability-field in order to gain an extended knowledge of its purposes and possible usage for today?s library systems. I was then able to apply the extended knowledge in the examination of the three library websites and the purpose of determining whether or not they were designed according to the standards set by the Usability-sciences.Usability is a rather new science that deals with the dissection and examination of computer-based systems, in order to find the key components that make systems user-friendlier. With user needs being the main focus of its research, Usability tries to meet all the different needs of the modern user and construct systems that are less system-centered and more user-centered.

Kan ett spel lära ut Lean Thinking

In relation to the development of IT-products it is very important that the software supplier is aware not only of the target group but also the field of application. Usability should characterize the whole IT-design process as, in relation to this context, design includes more than merely those aspects which are visible to and thus can be interpreted by the naked eye. The study examines the specific qualities and properties that substantiate the Usability and the demands that a customer rightfully expects from an IT-product. The user and the customer are highlighted in the same context in order to demonstrate that it is through the customer that an IT-product is defined as being useful. Thus, from this perspective, the user and customer can be considered as being the same person.

En studie i användbarhet: En kritisk analys av användbarhetsstudier i biblioteks- och informationsvetenskap

Usability studies are not a central field of research in library and information science. Although literature in library and information science treats the importance of usable user interfaces quite extensively, the literature does not significantly treat potential problems in measuring Usability. The aim of this master thesis is to investigate, through a critical analysis, the methods used when conducting Usability studies in library and information science. The critical analysis is based on potential problems in measuring Usability identified through a literature review from the field of studies Human-Computer Interaction, the concept of Usabilitys original domain. The material which is to be analysed, is chosen from one library and information science journal Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology.

Användbarhetsutvärdering av en grafiskt visualiserad patientjournal

First-year students at Linköping University have developed a prototype that graphically visualizes a medical record in a new way. The customer of that project was the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Linköping University. They now want a Usability evaluation to be performed of the prototype. The prototype is to be used by employees in the public health care and is supposed to be used on a small portable unit with a multi-touch interface. For this reason the prototype will be used as a complement to existing systems when the users work near the patients.

Kunskapsutveckling och lärande vid utveckling av en ny mjukvara. En fallstudie på ESBE AB.

This study is based on the development of a new software, which is used as a recommendationtool for selecting the best product. As part of the software development has an external partnerbeen asked to assist. The report will process the expectations that different people have on anew project but also how information is communicated to an external partner. The results from this study show that a software's function is closely linked to its Usability. Therefore shall Usability been taken into account when a new resource is created. The study alsoshows the importance of being able to share information, on how the program will beconstituted, to someone outside the organization..

Universell Design - en användbarhetsutvärdering av MyTobii C-series Control

Universal Design is a well established methodology with the fundamental purpose of designing products to be usable for as wide audience as possible, without the need of special adjustment to suit the individual. In this essay, Universal Design has had a clear influence in both the process and the result. The choice to use Universal Design as methodology in this Usability evaluation, has essentiallv to do with the target audience. As a part of the design process of MyTobii C8 has Tobii Technology ask for a Usability evaluation. MyTobii C8 is an 8" touch screen computer with a windows based operating system which will initiate the software MyTobii C-Series Control. MyTobii C-Series Control is the control panel for MyTobii C8, whose interfaces constitute the platform for various modificarion of the unit.

Användarcentrerad Systemdesign

This essay focuses on the term Usability while conducting a user centred system design. Usabilitymeans to what extent a user can use a product to achieve effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction.Development using a user centered system design means that knowledge about the end-users andit?s opinions becomes a crucial part of the development process. The question of this essay is if usinguser centred system design will lead to good Usability. We used methods from a user centered system design point of view while developing an applicationfor a Swedish bookstore company called Bokia AB. This included user and task analysis following by aclose relationship between the developers and end-users by using sketches and showing themprototypes of the system while collecting feedback. After concluding our case study we determined that using methods from user centered systemdesign could be used as a great tool to further improve the Usability and to improve an applicationssuccess chances..

Digitala tjänstens registreringsprocess ? hur påverkar den helhetsintrycket?

The outset of this thesis is to raise questions on how we design for the mobile context and the capabilities of smartphones. Not only the presentation but also the use of input and interaction between a service and a user. This work evolves around sign up forms and answers the question: How does the sign up process affect the holistic perspective of a digital service regarding Usability and user experience? This thesis consists of a case studies, and design experiments conducted on Twitter, Instagram and Randos sign up processes to explore if and how the Usability, and the user experience could be affected and im- proved. This concluded some important aspects to be considered when designing sign up forms for a digital service. The Usability, and the user experience is not only affected by user interaction, and the choice of input method but it?s also affected by which data the service is requesting, and more important; if that data is motivated to request by the service..

Leder icke användarcentrerad systemutveckling till låg användbarhet?

Within system development users have rarely been involved or received much attention during the development. Most of the times, the primary focus within system development lies on insuring functionality, rather than making the system usable. The literature specifies that a non user-centered approach can contribute to a product with low Usability, which can lead to an ineffective and unsatisfactory experience for the end users. The purpose of this thesis is to begin an investigation to see if the use of non user-oriented system development methods is a possible cause of low Usability in the final system. To achieve the purpose of this thesis, we have conducted a case study. Within the case study we examined the Usability of a time reporting system. The case study included seven minor studies; an investigation concerning the development of the system, an expert evaluation of the system, interviews and observations of users, developed paper prototypes and executable prototypes, both which user testing was performed on.The result of this study shows that by working with user-entered methods, the Usability in the time reporting system increased after the design had been revised.

Visualisering av FRAM

The Functional Resonance Accident Model is a method developed to analyze complex systems for the purpose of accident prevention. In FRAM-analysis a visualization of the complex system is created as an aid for identifying points of interaction in the system where the risk of accidents is high, and to determine where preventive measures are to be placed. FRAM Visualizer is a computer program developed as a tool for creating such visualizations. Many Usability problems have been identified in FRAM visualizations created both manually according to established method and by using the FRAM Visualizer software. The purpose of this paper is to give a basis for how FRAM visualizations can be improved in accordance with Usability criteria for use in future qualitative studies. The author suggests alterations to the FRAM visualization to resolve Usability issues identified in previous articles and to achieve Usability goals derived from visual communication theory. The design process is guided by established design principles.

This is a heuristic evaluation of Umeå university library?s Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC). It makes use of four of Nielsen?s ten heuristics, flexibility and efficiency to use, match between the system and real world, visibility of system status, and aesthetic and minimalist design. The evaluation was done by having 3 evaluators inspect the interface individually, as per Nielsen?s (1990) recommendation of 3-5 evaluators.
