?Urban Leftovers ?Problem eller potential? handlar om stadens överblivna ytor och stadens fragment. Ämnet överblivna ytor i staden är aktuellt och rör sig ofta i gränslandet mellan arkitektur, planering och konst. Man kan förhålla sig till dessa icke-definierade platser på olika sätt men gemensamt är att de i grund och botten berör frågan Vem har rätt till staden? Ofta har de överblivna ytorna inte någon egen funktion utan finns enbart som gränser eller skyddszoner för att skilja andra funktionsområden från varandra.

Hunden är en stor del av många människors liv. Det bör därför rimligen finnas gott om offentliga ytor i våra städer som erbjuder umgänge och rekreation för hundar och hundägare. Huvudfokus i detta arbete ligger i att få fram hur vi planerar för hundar i våra stadsmiljöer och varför vi behöver göra det. Uppsatsen består av litteraturstudier och intervjuer med efterföljande reflektioner som tillsammans ska förtydliga behovet av hundars integrering i våra offentliga miljöer. En specifik studie angående hundrastgårdar presenteras, då rastgårdarna ofta är de enda områdena i städer som specifikt är utformade för hundarna.

The aim of this study was to map the intellectual base at the Swedish School of Library and Information Science (SSLIS) at the University Collage of Borås, and to compare this intellectual base to the intellectual base of the research area Library and Information Science. This was done by analysing the citations in publications published, between the year of 2001 to the first quarter of 2006, by researchers at the institution, using the technique of author cocitation analysis. Cluster analysis and multidimensional scaling, statistical techniques that are traditional i the author cocitation analysis, formed an objective map of the intellectual base at the SSLIS. This map was then compared with three prior studies, that used the same technique to map the intellectual base of the research area. The result shows that the map of the intellectual base at the SSLIS consists of the specialities: user studies, library studies, culture/cultural policy, information retrieval, bibliometrics and information in organisations.

Detta kandidatarbete undersöker gröna tak i urban miljö. Gröna tak är i denna uppsats ett begrepp och samlingsnamn för vegetation på byggnaders tak i olika former. Trenden för gröna tak pekar uppåt, främst utomlands men även i Sverige. Emporia i Malmö som är ett av Skandinaviens största köpcentrum är byggt med ett så kallat grönt tak. Detta tak anlades dock på initiativ av byggherren och inte efter kommunens beslut. Huvudsyftet med uppsatsen är att undersöka om och i så fall hur kommunen kan planlägga gröna tak. Fördelar och nackdelar med det gröna taket kommer också att utgöra en del av uppsatsen.

The major environmental problems that we have today are frequently mentioned in the media today. One example is the ongoing debate regarding global warming and its causes and consequences. There are also several other problems in our society such as segregation and social tensions. Most agree that we must do something to solve these problems and that we must try to achieve a sustainable development for the entire planet. But how should it actually be done and what trade-offs, compromises, sacrifices and changes must be made?The purpose of this paper is to examine how these issues are being dealt with in Swedish city planning.

Hur publika displayer skall utformas och anpassas efter sin miljö på bästa sätt är ännu ett outforskat område. I takt med att miljöfrågor blivit än mer aktuella i dagens samhälle har det också etablerats ett behov av att förändra vårt beteende exempelvis i form av energieffektivisering. Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur en publik touchdisplay för elvisualisering skall utformas för att vara förståelig, intuitiv och säker från publik genans. En användarstudie i form av en utvärdering av en interaktiv touchdisplay kallad Urban Energy monterad i Göteborg har gjorts under ledning av Interactive Institute Swedish ICT. Touchdisplayens primära syfte är att uppmärksamma förbipasserande på stadens elförbrukning och uppmuntra till energimedvetenhet.I denna studie rekryterades 17 förbipasserande deltagare villiga att testa denna display med hjälp av två uppgifter och en enkät.

Abstract:Perennials in public areas have during the latest decades been more and more popular. This group of plants has become a more accepted komponent when creating pleasant public places, and people begin to see the functional aspects. Perennials do also give a colour- and senceexperience in a more detailed way than can be achieved with only trees and shrubs. One of the ojects of this essay is to give more examples of motives for using perennials in urban areas.Having in mind the increasing use of perennials, you can expect a growing need for better understading of how to create successfull perennial plantings. In spite of the increasing interest it is hard to find any written information in this subject.

Att gestalta naturliga landskap i en urban situation handlar om att förstå parallella processer som pågår samtidigt; att se platsens förutsättningar och biotopens preferenser. Genom det skapas ett nytt sammanhang där beståndsdelarna blir aktiva i flera olika situationer och skalnivåer. Denna tes har jag fått möjlighet att undersöka och fullskaletesta i TAKLANDSKAPET Sveavägen 44. Arbetets syfte är att sammanlänka förståelsen för hur man kan applicera hela biotoper i ett sammanhang som gör att den levande biologiska delen av projektet bidrar aktivit till upplevelsen och till det arkitektoniska utrycket och formgivningen av platsen. Slutsatsen är att man inte behöver se biotoper enbart som passiva byggelement eller komponenter. Det är biotoperna i sig som bär och leder konceptutvecklingen för idé, möjliga program och den potentiella inneboende formen. Strategin att reducera och platsanpassa komponenterna ger också svaret i en annan skala: Fråga platsen vad den vill vara och du kan samtidgt se mönstret i ett större sammanhang. Om man lyckas med formgivning som en öppen process med möjliga förändringar, utan att idén går förlorad, har man skapat ett öppet system; ett fraktalt system både i tid och rum. Jag tror och hoppas att TAKLANDSKAPET Sveavägen 44 innehåller dessa kvalitéer och att arbetssättet kan inspirera till liknande angreppssätt i andra projekt. April 28th 2010 the Swedish parliament decided that the combined teacher exam will be divided into four parts. This means that the education for preschool teachers and primary school teachers will have to be separated and future teachers will have to decide before their studies what ages they want to work with. To investigate if this could affect the quality of the choice I have interviewed 5 new teachers from the combined teachers program about what ages they wanted to teach before they began to study and what ages they wanted to teach after completed studies. I did this to see whether the choice was influenced by the educations or not. It turned out that all 5 had an idea of what ages they wanted to teach in before they began the educations and only one of my interviewees changed her mind during the studies.

Sustainable development is a concept that has been interpreted in a multitude of ways in different contexts. This essay argues that the discourse of "ecological modernization" has strongly influenced the way in which the concept of ?sustainability? has been constructed in Swedish environmental policy. This interpretation of the concept of sustainability offers the possibility of combining economic growth with ecological sustainability which stands in contrast to the assumptions of Deep Ecology and Green Theory. The aim of this essay is to explore how the concept of sustainability is being formulated in environmental policy both on a national level and in the city of Malmö.Considering these issues in a specific context, this essay focuses on city planning that is as an important instrument to promote urban sustainability both on national and local levels.

Is it possible that by planning in a more sustainable way when building a new area, we can improve our environment?Most environmental problems are created in cities and therefore they should hold the solution. Through a more ecological urban planning a better foundation for sustainable housing could be created.This report follows the process in coming up with a proposal for a master plan for an area in Odense, Denmark. By going through principles for sustainable urban planning made by different organizations and persons and from these extract main principles, a background is founded to continue the proposal from.Denmark works a lot on expanding their green areas, maintain the existing ones and recreate what?s being destroyed as cities expand.

Elite sport is becoming more professional, and elite athletes have to be more committed to spend several hours in training to achieve elite level and this means that the time to pursue a university academic career to the side of elite sport is minimized. Still only few elite athletes will be able to make a living of their sport. The objective of this study is to gain a better understanding of the opportunities and difficulties for a student who combines academic study with elite sport. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with eight students studying at the University of Umeå, combining elite sport with academic studies. Results show that there are high demands on elite students to structure and plan for the combination of studies and elite sport.
