Studentens lyckliga dar : Om representationen av upsaliensiskt studentliv på 1860- och 1870-talen i memoarer
The purpose of this Masters thesis is to examine the representation of student life in Uppsala in the 1860s and 1870s in memoirs. This purpose is achieved by contextualising the memoirs in two different analyses. In the first, the representation of student life in the memoirs is compared to that in another literary genre, the university novel, and it is found that the two representational forms paint completely contradictory pictures, where in the novels the higher education is depicted as rotten and in dire need of reformation, whereas in the memoirs the system, albeit somewhat flawed, works. The memoirs and the novels thus seem to be competing systems of representation, created in different discourses, wherein the purpose and nature of higher education widely differed. In the second analysis, the examination of the memoirs is based on research concerning the nation building process in Sweden during the 19th century.

Studies have shown that politicians are significantly more likely to become victims of violent crime than other citizens in Sweden. In fact increasing political rank and engagement are directly proportionate to increased risk for violence. Threat towards politicians is not only dangerous to the individuals involved but also to the democratic system as a whole.Political scientists the world over have done a lot of research on democracy, but I have been unable to find a single method or theory that examines how violence, threat and harassment affect political leaders and democratic systems.The aim of this study is to expand the existing model made by Tommy Möller, professor in political science. In his model he presents 11 factors that affect political leaders ability to act. My aim is to develop his model by adding a 12 th factor ?violence, threat and harassment?.

Det här arbetet handlar om gång- och cykelpassager som är en del av ett grönstråk i en stadsmiljö. Studierna fokuserar på tre utvalda platser i Uppsala.
Idag anses cykling som en del av en sund, hållbar och miljövänlig livsstil. Städer försöker att öka antalet cyklister och gående medan bilar ska stegvist trängas ut ur stadskärnan.
Gång- och cykelpassager som är en del av ett helt cykelnät kännetecknas i sin planering och design av tekniska och trafikrelaterade faktorer eftersom det är trafikplanerare som ansvarar för dem som en del av gatan.
Trots att denna specifika typ av gång- och cykelpassager inte bara är en del av cykelnätet utan också av ett rekreationsområde, fattas ofta det landskapsarkitektoniska perspektivet.

Every organization goes through the same lifecycle. Through every step in the transformation to a better organization the communication structure changes. In this report there are examples of the communicational disadvantages that is connected to the communicational structure.By choosing to not have a formal communicational design, the manager takes a risk in spreading the information, the interaction, the control and the balance in creativity and constraint.This case organizations problem is that some parts of the organization has made more progress in the communicational structure than other parts. In this case the Collectivity structure has met the Formalized structure.Tha structural differences has came to affect the way of sharing information and it has become a situation where the information about the products is not stored in a safe way from a quality point of view. There is a gap between the two different ways of communicate.In this report I have created a model to identify problems in the communication structure.

This report was written as a final thesis within the Department of forest economics at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences as a completion of the M.SC Forestry programme. The aim of this study was to create a model that, with respect to given stock levels, temperature, fuel usage and fuel price, would identify the optimal levels for purchase of bio fuels, optimal levels of incineration of bio fuels and the sum of the present values of all costs. The model would be applicable for a larger district heating plant.
Data regarding temperature were received from SMHI. Information considering fuel prices was taken from the Swedish Forest Agency and the facts about fuel usage were collected from a large district heating plant, located in the southwest of Sweden. For the temperature, a sinus curve was adapted to describe the temperature over a year.

The purpose of this study is to examine the phenomenon ?Living library?, where people are lent out instead of books. First it is looked into what the Living library means to the person who is borrowing a living book and what it means to the living book itself. Than the Living library is put in a public library context. This is done through a case study of the city library of Helsingborg and the city library of Malmö.
Perfect match? : Kombinationen av Knowledge Management & Human Resource Management i konsultbolag
Background: We have identified the combination of Knowledge Management and Human Resource Management as interesting because of this constellation has been mentioned scarcely in previous studies. There also seem to be some interesting correlations with personnel turnover.Aim: The aim of this study is to describe and understand the theoretically best combination of Human Resource Management and Knowledge Management, by creating a model. The model is also going to be tested empirically through consulting firms, to see if they meet the ideal combination. With this model we also want to describe in what way the different combinations of strategies will affect the personnel turnover.Definitions: A huge part of this study concerns the theoretical area Human Resource Management, which we have entitled HRM. Similarly, Knowledge Management has been entitled KM.Completion: The study is designed both as a literature review and as a comparative case study in which empirical data has been collected through qualitative interviews with four Swedish management consulting firms.Results: The best combinations of KM and HRM are according to this study that strategies should consist of a thoroughgoing personalization or codification.
Manual eller erfarenhet : En studie om kunskapsspridning på Nordeas telefonbank i Uppsala
Denna fallstudie beskriver hur kunskap tar sig i uttryck och sprids mellan medarbetare på Nordeas telefonbank för privatkunder i Uppsala. För att analysera hur kunskap sprids har Nonakas SEKI modell för kunskapsöverföring använts som beskriver hur kunskap kan spridas genom fyra olika kanaler: socialisering, externalisering, internalisering och kombinering. Resultatet bygger på en kvantitativ enkätundersökning där 32 medarbetare deltog samt en kvalitativ intervju med Nordea Uppsalas personalchef och utbildningssamordnare. Innan undersökningen genomfördes formulerades tre hypoteser i avsikt att utreda 1) Om majoriteten av kunskapen som sprids mellan respondenterna i urvalet är implicit 2) Om det finns en skillnad mellan hur män och kvinnor tar till sig och sprider kunskap och 3) Om medarbetare med längre erfarenhet besitter mer implicit kunskap. Resultatet visar att majoriteten av den kunskap som sprids är explicit, att det finns en skillnad mellan hur män och kvinnor tar till sig och sprider kunskap och att medarbetare med längre erfarenhet besitter mer implicit kunskap.
Förslag till bebyggelse och park i kvarteret Seminariet i Uppsala
In the urban planning debate of today, two strategies for city development stand out as each other's opposites, urban sprawl and smart growth. This thesis concerns a development project of the latter kind and aims to give an alternative proposal to new buildings and a park in a Swedish city block. The term sprawl is used for new developments on virgin soil on the outskirts of cities leading to a city spreading, while smart growth stand for increased city density through development on re-used land within the city boundaries. The latter are often seen as more sustainable in many levels and are also shown to have positive effects on a number of city functions. At the same time smart growth has negative consequences on other aspects of the city such as public open spaces.
En klinik i förändring : Stöd och hinder för genomförandet av förändringar på thoraxkirurgiska kliniken vid Akademiska sjukhuset i Uppsala
Syftet med denna studie är att analysera vad som stödjer och vad som hindrar genomförandet av förändringar inom sjukhusverksamhet. Ett av de områden som har varit berörda av förändringar under de senaste decennierna är svensk sjukvård, som trots sin komplexitet behöver utvecklas för att möta befolkningens behov samt efterfrågan på hög kvalitet och effektivitet. Förändringsprojekt ?Bättre flyt på opererande verksamheter III? som har genomförts på thoraxkirurgiska kliniken vid Akademiska sjukhuset i Uppsala presenteras. Studien inriktar sig på de faktorer som har påverkat klinikens förändringsarbete.Studien baseras på en kvalitativ forskningsmetod och bygger på semistrukturerade intervjuer med sex personer vilka på olika sätt varit inblandade i genomförandet av förändringsprojektet.En teoretisk referensram utformades.
Anhöriganställning, en fälla eller en möjlighet? : En kvalitativ studie om några myndighetspersoners syn på anhöriganställning
SammanfattningI denna studie undersöker jag vilken syn biståndshandläggarna och enhetscheferna har på avlönad anhörigvård och hur denna anhöriganställning påverkar situationen för de anhöriga. Jag väljer i min studie att fokusera på konsekvenser av anhöriganställning för en person som vårdar sin anhörig och som ingår i begreppet invandrare. Jag har använt mig av en kvalitativ studie och har intervjuat fem myndighetspersoner i Uppsala. I studien reflekterar och analyserar jag myndighetspersonernas åsikter med utgångspunkt i det teoretiska perspektivet KASAM ? Känsla Av SAMmanhang och Social utbytesteori.Resultaten visar på en utbredd negativ syn på anhöriganställning hos myndighetspersoner, detta grundar sig på deras mångåriga erfarenhet av anhöriganställning och de problem som anhöriga möter i dagligt arbete som till exempel tunga lyft, bundenhet, yrkets låga status, men mitt resultat visar också på den stora brist av information kring anhöriganställning som råder i Uppsala.

This thesis examines how a company can get an effective, high quality, maintenance of their computerized systems. After literary studies concerning the life cycle activity Maintenance we have studied how the maintenance at the department IT Supply of IKEA IT AB in Älmhult is carried out. What steps and measures in the analyzing of results of changes are carried out and if they have predefined processes for changes. Based on the facts we found most important in our literary studies we have created a model and theoretically applied this to the maintenance of a specific system to see what they can work with to further improve the quality and efficiency in their maintenance. The basis for our thesis is literary studies and the collected material has been used as a foundation for the research at the company, which was carried out through interviews.
CSR & Etik: En tillämpning av normativ etik på CSR i praktiken
The neo-classical conception of the market place does not provide a framework to account for ethical or moral action. As a result, the neo-classical model is unable to explain the impact of ethical and moral issues on business sustainability present in the modern economy. To address this limitation, this thesis investigates whether theories of ethics can help explain the motivations and actions of stakeholders within the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). In addition, the thesis explores whether theories of ethics are presented differently within aspects of the stakeholder model. Semi - structured interviews were conducted with various stakeholders within the CSR sector, including a NGO, a commercial firm and a CSR consultancy firm.
Adaptive Capacity through Complex Adaptive System
Problem: The corrugated board industry is highly affected by customer uncertainty, various demands and short delivery times. In combination with a complex multi-step production process managers have to be able to identify bottle-necks and gain knowledge and understanding of how different changes in process will affect the production output. <br/><br/>Purpose: The purpose of this master thesis is twofold, (1) to examine applicability of complexity theory through agent-based modelling on a production process (2) to identify improvement areas in order to increase the production output at SKS production site in Eslöv, by modelling and simulating the production process through an agent-based model. <br/><br/>Method: The chosen method of this study is a combination of a case study and a complex system approach. The empirical data was collected through interviews, observation and document studies which were analysed through an agent-based simulation model.
