Improved wireless datacommunication with the forest machines might be the next big step in the logging process. The use for wireless communicationsystems within the forestry is among other things to report the production from the forest machines, to supply the machine opera-tors with the right information and for safety. CDMA2000/ 450 is a third generation mobilecommunicationsystem which could replace the old NMT- 450 and for comparatively low costs. The reason for the low costs is that you only have to use the old NMT- 450 masts and supply them with new equipment. In the test of CDMA2000/450, that has taken place in northern Uppland, two kind of files have been sent.

This paper deals with flat iron fragments from the Viking Age hall situated in Birkas Garrison, Adelsö parish in Uppland. The aim of the study was to identify which objects these flat fragments were originally derived from. The aim was also to discuss the function of these objects and their presence in the hall. This would hopefully increase the knowledge about the hall and the warriors who lived and worked there. In some cases the fragments form and placement in the hall has not provided enough information to classify the object from which they derived.

Detta arbete omfattar en studie angående ett blivande kompetensutvecklingscenter för urbefolkningen på ön Mindoro i Filippinerna. En central punkt på centret är ett rum avsätt för varierande verksamheter. Min studie omfattar hur detta rum på bästa sätt kan bidra till flexibilitet och användbarhet genom rumsliga element. En fallstudie utfördes i Filippinerna under perioden mars-maj 2012. En kvalitativ studie innefattande intervjuer, observationer, diskussioner, analyser och litteraturstudie, med fokus på visioner, hinder och förutsättningar. Analys av studien och designprocessen resulterade i ett gestaltningsförslag som skapar förutsättningar för inkludering och funktionalitet. Resultatet blev en stapelbar låda som går att använda som sittplats, en plats till förvaring, samt går att sätta ihop till önskade moduler.

This essay consider ritual death during the ironage, and through a presentation of historical and archaeological sources. Considered ritual death I think we should study both historical and archaeological sources, to get a vider view and a new perspective. To make the essay easier to understand I have split up the early and the late Iron Age in the discussion. In order to study the ritual death I have shown archaeological examples like bogsacrifices in the early ironage, and decapitated victims in the Viking society. The victims have been considered as slaves by some archaeologist.

The intention of this essay is to put the light on and to discuss if there is a connection between a pre-Christian creation mythology and naked rocks on prehistoric sacred places in Scandinavia. Archaeological as well as historical materials are studied. The historical material is mostly from Snorre Sturlasons Asasagan with the explanation of the creation of the world. In this story the world was built from the body of a killed and deposited giant named Ymer. Almost the same myth is told in all Indo-European countries.

The Christianisation of Sweden is not much about religion. Instead, there is much to be gained by looking at it as a colonial situation with changing social identities and power structures. This is evident by the prevalence of hybridisations in the archaeological material.Some of the material categories that show the clearest example of changes are the burials from the 9th century up until about AD 1200. This is exemplified by two different Iron Age burial sites in Stockholm county, Uppland, Sweden: RAÄ 59, Valsta, in Norrsunda parish and RAÄ 40, Lilla Ullevi, in Bro parish; They both show hybridisation by involving older elements with newer ones during a time period when the church was not quite established in the region yet.The Christianisation of Sweden is a colonial situation, but the research tradition has often also used a colonial lens from the 19th and early 20th century in its approach to the period. This means that the same questions, interpretations and conclusions, often based on written sources, have been continuously reused for a long time, which has had consequences for the archaeology in Sweden..

I dagens svenska skogsbruk är snytbaggeskador på planterade plantor av gran och tall ett stort problem. Syftet med detta examensarbete vara att efter den första tillväxtsäsongen utvärdera snytbaggeskador och planttillväxt i 15 praktiska planteringar med tre olika markberedningsmetoder där plantorna behandlats med Conniflex. Fältundersökningen skedde på färska hyggen belägna i norra Uppland och södra Gästrikland. Medelvärdet för andelen snytbaggeskadade plantor låg på drygt 8,5 % per lokal. Risken för snytbaggeskador minskar rejält då planteringspunkten är i ren mineraljord eller humusblandad mineraljord.

Denna uppsats är resultatet av ett samarbete med Försäkringskassan i Uppsala län. Försäkringskassan och Länsarbetsnämnden tillhandahåller arbetslivsinriktad rehabilitering för sjukskrivna arbetslösa i länet. Samarbetet kallas tvåpartssamverkan och syftar till att individerna inom ett år ska kunna få ett arbete eller påbörja en utbildning. I vilka faktorer som leder till framgång respektive utgör fallgropar i tvåpartssamverkan. Sannolikhetsmodeller skattas med individdata för deltagarna i denna samverkan.

The area around the stream Orsundaan, which runs trough the valley Harsbacksdalen, is famous for its beautiful landscape. The upper area of Orsundaan and Harsbacksdalen is situated just south of Heby in Uppland, Sweden. Even though the area is protected by different nature conservation acts, it is difficult to find any information about the geodiversity in the area. Geodiversity, or geological and geomorphological diversity, includes the concepts of geoprocesses and geoelements. Very high geodiversity could be seen at an inventory of the geomorphology in the upper area of Orsundaan and Harsbacksdalen.

This paper deals with archaeological prospecting for the purpose of finding a prehistoric settlement in Alsike hage, Alsike parish, Uppland. The methods being used are soil phosphate analysis, electromagnetic survey and settlement analysis. Two 20x20 meters areas have been prospected. As Alsike hage contains several late Iron Age burial fields, large splendid zones for settlement location, closeness to water as well as farmland there was a hope of locating remains of prehistoric settlement in the area. None of the prospected areas showed any distinct evidence of settlement remains.

Antalet kvinnliga högskolestudenter har under många år varit fler än de manliga, och skillnaderna fortsätter att öka, trots att det finns politiska önskemål om en jämn könsfördelning vid högskolor. Syftet med denna undersökning är att undersöka hur könstillhörighet kan påverka elevers benägenhet att söka sig till högskolestudier. Den bygger på en enkätundersökning som genomfördes på elever vid en gymnasieskola i Uppland våren 2010. Resultatet visade att pojkarna och flickorna delvis hade en skild syn på högskolestudier ur ett karriärutvecklingsperspektiv. Flickorna, som var mer positivt inställda till högskolestudier, ansåg att dessa var mer generellt utvecklande, och verkade inte nämnvärt påverkas av sina föräldrars utbildningsnivå vid valssituationen.

The goal of this work is to get as good a basis as possible to explain what the owners want for products and services when those doing business with buying groups in Korsnäs purchases regions: Gävleborg, Dalarna, Uppland and Frövi. It should also provide Korsnäs knowledge of the most important factors to consider in business with the owners. Another important aspect is to find out what you have done better at the business with owners, to eventually be able to preserve and take them into account. 300 questionnaires sent out to randomly selected owners in these regions. This is to find out what the owners did not have the products/services of Korsnäs. 29 questions were asked in the affected areas to identify what was missing and to eventually be able to satisfy them.

I föreliggande arbete jämförs NordUpplands runsvenska antroponomastikon (personnamnsförråd) med Västergötlands med avseende på fördelningen av namnbildningstyper, vilka namn och namnleder som är mest frekventa och andelen unika namn. Det framkommer att NordUppland och Västergötland har i stort sett identisk fördelning av namnbildningstyper och andel unika namn men skiljer sig åt både gällande vilka namn och förleder som är mest frekventa och hur stor andel de frekventa namnen och förlederna utgör av respektive områdes totala material. Västergötland, vars frekventa namn utgör en större andel, förefaller ha ett mer homogent och mindre originellt antroponomastikon än Uppland. Den större variationen i det uppländska materialet kan eventuellt förklaras med att de uppländska runstenarna rests av och till minne av en socialt mer differentierad grupp. Den västgötska enheten speglar att de västgötska stenarna hört till en smalare samhällsklass.

The purpose of this study is to compare the economic differences between withdraw of forest fuel and withdraw of pulpwood in first thinning, to see which method gives the maximum profitability (income - cost). Another purpose is to investigate the economic impact of the thicket cleaning. The study compares four different methods: i) pulpwood output with thicket cleaning, ii) pulpwood output without thicket cleaning, iii) forest fuel output with thicket cleaning and iv) forest fuel output without thicket cleaning. The study was conducted in a 30-years old stand, dominated by spruce, outside Harg in Uppland. The method that generated the best economic net income was pulpwood without thicket cleaning. It generated a positive net of 1,383 SEK per hectare. Forest fuel output without thicket cleaning also generated a positive net in 720 kronor per hectare.
