This essay is about democracy and how a democracy index can be used as a tool to illustratethe gap between reality and ideal. The purpose of this study can be expressed by two researchquestions: Does the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) democracy index illustrate thedistance between reality and the ideal of democracy presented by Dahl? and Can the EIU'sdemocracy index be modified by a) internal adjustments and b) using the variables includedin World Economic Forum?s (WEF) equality index?By using a combination of theories (Dahl?s theory of democracy, Rawls theory of justice andchosen theories critical to liberal democracy) as an analytical framework the following twoquestions have been answered:1) Which of the variables included in the EIU's democracy index have the potential to capturethe level of political equality?2) Which of the variables included in the WEF?s equality index have the potential to capturethe degree of political equality?By using a quantitative method the study?s third and last question has been answered:3) How strong is the rank correlation between the EIU?s democracy index and the WEF?sequality index, that is; how strong is the rank correlation coefficient (rho)?The data presented by the WEF?s equality index indicate that women are systematicallydiscriminated against as a group. From a democratic perspective the EIU may need tomeasure inequalities at a group level in order to capture the lack of political equality betweenindividuals. By reformulating some of the EIU?s variables, by revising the EIU?s point systemand by using the variables included in the WEF's equality index to extend EIU?s democracyindex, the chances of capturing the gap between reality and the ideal of democracy presentedby Dahl would likely increase..

The purpose of this study has been to examine what it is in the situation that affects which leadership that is applied on the members of the organization. Our questions that we have explored were; What is it in the situation that influences the leadership applied on an individual or staff group? What similarities and differences have emerged by Hersey and Blanchards situational leadership model?Further, we used qualitative semi-structured interviews at the interview procedures with three managers and three employees. Hersey and Blanchards situational leadership model and Goffmans theory in the book "The presentation of self in everyday life" have been used as a foundation and inspiration in this study.We have found that circumstances like the size of the staff group along with the organizations financials and the resources affect the leadership behavior and how well it is matched with the employees. The function of the leaders position in the context, and the purpose of the situation influences how the leadership is formed.

The aim of this literature study was to give a clear picture of what gastric dilatation-volvulus is, and how the acute- and postoperative treatment and care is managed. The general aim is to support and help the veterinary technicians in their clinical work. Gastric dilatation volvulus is always an emergency. The primarily goal when these dogs are hospitalized is to establish an adequate cardiovascular function. This is done by immediate intravenous fluid therapy followed by decompression of the dilated stomach.

To tackle this problem the international community has agreed that action is necessary. Focus is now directed towards local extraction of energy from renewable sources such as biogas.Utö is participating in the Green Island project, which aims to investigate the possibility of making the island climate neutral. The workplace is perhaps the most developed arena for prevention of diseases and injuries among employees. In addition, according to the Swedish Work Environment Act, the employer is responsible to address physical and psychosocial risk factors. Moreover, many employers use health promotion, primarily related to individuals and their ambition to maintain or improve health, for example through dietary means and exercise. The aim of this study is to investigate health inspirers in municipal activities and their perceived support and motivation in work related to health promotion at the workplace. A qualitative method was chosen where six health inspirers within Ludvika kommun were interviewed.

Införandet av en mobil intensivvårdsgrupp (MIG) har visat sig ha goda resultat utomlands med minskade andningsstopp och mortalitet inom pediatrisk vård. Vid Astrid Lindgrens Barnsjukhus i Solna, Sverige (ALB) finns långt framskridna planer på att starta en MIG-verksamhet. Syftet med denna studie var att beskriva pediatriska patienter som faller in under potentiella MIG-kriterier innan inläggning på barnintensivvårdsavdelningen/barnintermediäravdelningen (BIVA/BIMA) på ALB. Studien gjordes retrospektivt genom journalgranskning av inskrivna pediatriska patienter på BIVA/BIMA under 2009. Totalt inkluderades 148 pediatriska patienter i åldern 0-18 år i studien.

Denna uppsats syfte är att undersöka vilken roll olika fastighetsbolag i Malmö anser sig ha för att påverka segregationen. Vi vill se om det utförs någon styrning från företagen och om typen av ägandeform spelar någon roll för fastighetsägarnas sätt att arbeta med segregationen. Först ägnade vi oss åt litteraturstudier i det aktuella ämnet vilket vi följde upp med intervjuer i tre företag med olika ägarformer. De företag vi intervjuade hade alla olika ägandeskap såsom kommunal, kooperativ och privat. Ägandeformen har betydelse i arbetet mot segregation. Mest påtagligt är det i det privata företaget där ägaren har avgörandet om företaget skall arbeta med detta.

For about twenty years ago companies? use of internal auditing took a turn from having been something popular to becoming more notorious. In this thesis we examine what might have caused that turn, We do this by looking at the vision and way of working for about twenty years ago and how the view of the area is today.

Problem: How has Nordea been adapted and influenced by the change of Basel II and how have the employees reacted on the new change?Purpose: This essay has a purpose to study how Basel II has influenced the credit rating at Nordea. We also want to study how the employees have reacted to the new change.Method: To receive the information that was necessary for this study interviews were performed with the employees at Nordea. The interviews were an effective way to start a discussion and by that we received important information.Basel II is new capital cover rules that the Swedish banks have introduced. These new rules mean that it will become more important with safety when it comes to risk management and credit giving.

Relationen mellan riskkapitalist och företagsledare kan härröras till industrialismens genombrott i början av 1900-talet, vid den tidpunkten ägde uppdelning av ägare och företagsledning rum. Syftet med denna uppsats är att beskriva och öka förståelsen för grunden i relationen mellan en riskkapitalist och en företagsledare. När ägandet och styrningen är uppdelat kan konflikter uppstå vilket gör det intressant att även beskriva och öka förståelsen för när de båda aktörerna i relationen kan ha differentierad riskattityd. Background: The background explains different financial crises and the effect those crises had on the Swedish acquits regarding variable compensation. The resent discussion regarding variable compensation and the main problems with bonuses is also explained. The Private Equity industry has over the past years been booming and major external environmental changes have made the industry transform rapidly. Increased competition between Private Equity firms is one of the reasons why the industry has been and is being forced to focus more on addition of value through increased operational management.
