Anyone moving to Arvika gets the magazine ?Nyinflyttad/Recently moved in" sent home. The year 2011 Arvika had 1017 new residents, and they all got the same version of the magazine "Nyinflyttad/Recently moved in." A simpler version of the magazine hasn?t been made, although the municipality is aware that it is needed.The aim of my thesis is to see if the information that Arvika is sending to its new residents in meeting their information needs. To get the answer on this question, I have examined data from the target group perspective.

This thesis has been conducted at Saab Bofors Dynamics AB. The purpose was to investigate if a non-linear missile model could be stabilized when the optimal control signal is computed considering constraints on the control input. This is particularly interesting because the missile is controlled with rudders that have physical bounds. This strategy is called Model Predictive Control. Simulations are conducted to compare this strategy with others; firstly simulations with step responses and secondly simulations when the missile is supposed to hit a moving target.

The first part of the thesis consists of a brief introduction to the general principles of target detection and the sensor-systems used. In the following part there is a theoretical description of the algorithms this thesis focuses on. The detection algorithms described in this paper are called Cell Average, Ordered Statistics, 2parameter and Gammadetector. Two different discriminators called Extended Fractal Features and Quadratic Gamma Discriminator are also described. The algorithms are tested on three different types of data, simulated SAR-pictures, authentic SAR-targets and IR-pictures.

In industry applications, such as power supply plants, the issue of interaction between fluid and structure is always presented. More precisely, the fluid flow affects the structure by applying force(s) on it and vice versa. As a result, the structure can move (vibrate) or deform. A good understanding of this problem can help to design the system in term of safety, stability and efficiency.This project aims to optimize and test the Unicorn FSI solver from the FEniCS project [1] to simulate the interaction of fluid and structure in an experiment, which was carried out at Vattenfall Research and Development. Our education at Halmstad University was completed with a degree project. Our task was to improve an already existing pneumatic damper to Nederman in Helsingborg. Overall we have made necessary calculations to make the design of the existing damper smaller. When these calculations were done, we moved on with an analysis of the existing damper in order to figure out what improvements could be made on each part of the damper. The result of this project is a smaller and a more supple design of a pneumatic damper.
