Upprepad administrering av trimetoprim/sulfadiazin till neonatala föl : plasmaproteinbindning och effekt på serumbilirubinkoncentrationen
Today most dosages used in horse medicine are based on studies in adult horses. Since there are differences between adult and neonatal horses with respect to different pharmacological parameters this can cause problems when administring drugs to neonatal foals. Neonatal sepsis is a common cause of morbidity and mortality in foals and aggressive antibiotic treatment is needed immediately when sepsis is suspected. In Sweden the combination of trimethoprim/sulphadiazine and bensylpenicillin is often used as the initial treatment. When administering drugs, interactions can occur between the drugs and endogenous substances.
Förekomst av meticillinresistenta Staphylococcus spp. på kirurgiskt behandlade hundar
Surgical site infections are a recurrent problem in veterinary medicine. A 2-5 % infection rate in clean surgery has been reported. During the last years the increase in methicillin resistant staphylococci has also taken its toll on veterinary medicine, demanding a stricter hygiene and antibiotic regime. The 2008 outbreak of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) at the University animal hospital, Swedish University of Agriculture indicated that that the MRSA problem was now a real, possibly zoonotic problem.Since the first dog, in Sweden, was diagnosed as a carrier of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) in a study in 2006, the infection rate by this bacterium has increased. In 2009 (January 1st - December 2nd) the National Veterinary Institute (SVA) has identified 58 samples as MRSP positive.

Kläder i hampa - ett miljövänligt alternativ/komplement till bomull?
Hemp has been used for textiles for a long time in history until it became illegal to grow in many countries in the 1930s. It is interesting from an environmental point of view because it doesn?t need any pesticides and in most locations it doesn?t need any irrigation either, compared to cotton, which normally requires big amounts of both pesticides and water for irrigation. Hemp is a bast fiber, which means that the fibers are located on the bast of the stem (on the outer layer of the stem). Therefore they cannot be spun directly, they have to be removed from the stem first.

Global warming is one of the most debated environmental issues right now, and it could be argued that it is important to study how the phenomenon is Treated in schools. The main purpose of this study is to put students? knowledge about global warming in relation with the control documents for chemistry, biology and physics studies. Interviews have been conducted with six students in the 9th grade. The conclusion of the survey indicates that the students generally have a satisfying knowledge about the phenomenon and that they know how they should behave from an environmental perspective..
?Ska han bli dagisfröken?!? : En kvalitativ studie om varför män väljer att studera till förskollärare och vad de får för reaktioner och bemötande från omgivningen
The purpose of this study was to use qualitative interviews with students at Södertörn University to find out what drives the men who begin to study for preschool teachers, how they are Treated and how they are influenced by others. I also wanted to find out what the informants believe is the cause to why so few men apply to the program and what they think need to happen to change this. This is a qualitative study based on the selected students' experiences. In order to get different perspectives, I chose to interview three students and former students. One of them chose to terminate their studies after half the time, the second is at the end of the program and the third graduated a couple of years ago and has been working for a while.I originated in the theory of ethical concepts of gender, gender contract, "token" and hegemonic masculinity. Previous research addresses that the perception of men in pre-schools can look very different.
Immunmedierad hemolytisk anemi hos hund : en retrospektiv studie
Immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia (IMHA) is an immune-mediated
destruction of erythrocytes and is one of the most common haematological
diseases diagnosed in dogs. The haemolysis is a type II immunoreaction and is
initiated by IgG or IgM antibodies or complements.
This retrospective study includes 63 dogs suffering from primary IMHA. The
study was based on information from records from the Swedish University of
Agricultural Sciences, Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences in Uppsala
and from the Animal Hospital in Strömsholm. The aim of the study was to
evaluate the progress of the disease, treatment and the prognostic factors in
different breeds, gender and age.
Following criteria were used for the dogs to be allowed in the study: the dogs
were diagnosed with anaemia, the anaemia was regenerative and
autoagglutination and/or spherocytes were seen in the blood.
About 50 % of the dogs in the study were diagnosed with IMHA within 2-6 years
of age. Wire-haired dachshund was remarkably one of the most common breeds in
this study together with Cocker and Springer spaniel.
Djurägares syn på cytostatikabehandling av hund : en enkätundersökning
Chemotherapy is one of the most important methods of treatment available today for the treatment of neoplastic diseases and gives many patients an increased quality of life and a prolonged survival time (McKnight, 2003). The object of this study was to find out more about owners? views on and experiences of chemotherapy of dogs when it comes to for example quality of life, side effects and if they would make the same decision and treats their dog again in the future. A questionnaire was in the spring of 2009 sent out to the owners of 100 dogs that had been Treated with chemotherapy for neoplastic diseases at Universitetsdjursjukhuset, Sveriges Lantbruksuniversitet (SLU) in Uppsala between 2002 and 2008. The response rate was 67 %.

En balanserad rapport? Om svenska medier i Egyptens andra revolution
This bachelor thesis is a critical study in which we are studying if the swedish reports of the so called ?second revolution? in Egypt have been objective. We have been studying this by using Jörgen Westerståhls objectivity model and we have chosen to investigate whether the reports have been objective balance-wise. The second revolution is a term which describes the protests and demonstrations that led to the military action in which the elected president Muhammad Mursi were forced to resign on the 4th of July, 2013The study includes articles from five leading Swedish newspapers, Aftonbladet, Dagens Nyheter, Expressen, Göteborgs-Posten and Svenska Dagbladet. We have been studying all the articles that include the word ?Egypt?.
The role of mast cells and mast cell mediators in the development of atopic dermatitis in a mouse model
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a complex, often lifelong allergic disease affecting around 10 % of both
dogs and humans. The hallmark symptom is severe pruritus, causing a lowered quality of life. Mast
cells (MCs) are known to play an important part of the immunopathogenesis, promoting a faulty T
helper cell type 2 (Th-2) response which follows by a production of specific immunoglobulin E
(IgE) antibodies towards environmental allergens (Ag). To further investigate the role of MCs and
its mediators in the progression of AD, a low-calcemic vitamin D3 analog (MC903) was used to
induce AD-like symptoms locally on the ears of two different knock-out (KO) mouse strains. The
first strain was Wsh-/- mice deficient in MCs.
De har ju lyckats med mig : Om ungdomars erfarenheter av behandling
This study is based on interviews with four youths that have been Treated for problems such as drugabuse and criminality. The aim of this master´s thesis is to examine the youths experiences with the treatment they received, but also to examine how they look upon their own lifesituations. The study is presented in categories developed through the use of Grounded theory. The result points out that the treatment can be summarized mainly in two aspects- one concerning care and one concerning control. The first aspect includes supportive and friendly staff while control in this context stands for rules and supervision of different kinds.

A porcine type 1 Diabetes Mellitus model, for non-invasive in vivo imaging of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor in the pancreas, using [68Ga]Ga-DO3A-VS-Cys40-conjugated synthetic exendin-4 in PET-CT
Diabetes mellitus is a rising epidemic throughout the world and there is currently great interest in quantifying the beta-cell mass (BCM) in vivo non-invasively. In the present experiment, the feasibility of in vivo imaging of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) in beta-cells was examined, using the positron emission tomography (PET) tracer [68Ga]Ga-DO3A-VS-Cys40-exendin-4 as a marker, in native pancreatic beta-cells of a porcine diabetic animal model and healthy controls.
Eight Swedish high-health domestic pigs were randomly assigned to be either controls or made diabetic using streptozotocin (STZ). The experiment proceeded during eight weeks, starting with an acclimatisation period. Once the pigs had been socialised they underwent surgery for the insertion of a jugular vein catheter, allowing induction of diabetes with STZ, intravenous (i.v.) injections and stress-free blood sampling. Development of diabetes was confirmed by clinical examinations, blood glucose values and insulin-staining of pancreatic sections post mortem.
The diabetic pigs were insulin Treated and responded well.
Bärarskap av meticillinresistent Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) hos svenska hundar :
During the last years, meticillin resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) have caused an increasing number of infections in Swedish dogs. MRSP is resistant against a majority of the antimicrobials available for dogs in Sweden, making it difficult to treat the infection. Our knowledge of the bacterium is limited, making it hard to handle infected dogs in a proper way. The aim of this study was to investigate for how long time dogs, who have an infection caused by MRSP, become carriers of the bacterium. Other factors like treatment with antimicrobials, the correlation between clinical symptoms and carriage, common diagnoses and institutionalization where also looked upon.
