The attacks of September 11, 2001 have done more to focus attention on the conjunction of religion and conflict than any other event in recent history. Although much international research has focused since then on the role of Islam, religiously inspired violence is also found in countries as diverse as Thailand, Burma, or Sri Lanka, where Buddhism plays a central role. This paper addresses how these realities are reflected in two Swedish high school textbooks on religion. The thesis calls into question the manner in which Buddhism is presented in schoolbooks as the most probable candidate to be a conflict-free religion.Using Fairclough?s discourse analysis theoretical framework and Hellspong?s structural analysis, the thesis critically examines the relationship between text, the discourse practice in which text is produced and the wider social practices.

The award-winning Norwegian novelist Karl Ove Knausgård achieved great success with his latest book, Min kamp. Both commercially and critically, the novel was praised for its seemingly successful attempt to transcend the boundary between fiction and real life. Focusing on the auto-fictional narrator?s struggle to balance his daily life with his ever so demanding aesthetic ambitions, the novel gives high-detail descriptions of the most basic day-to-day chores, intimately mixed with philosophical reflections on topics such as painting, literature and postmodern civilisation.This essay proposes an alternative perspective on the realism of the novel. Instead of relying on a correspondence theoretical view, which highlights the level of correspondence of a particular representation with reality, I seek, inspired by Martin Heidegger?s thoughts on works of art, to trace a poetics which sees the verity in a work of art as the ?unconcealment? of the world, or the coming-to-being of objects.

The aim of this study is to examine the historical information about women?s libraries and book ownership during the early modern period in the work of Carl Magnus Carlander, Svenska bibliotek och ex-libris [Swedish libraries and ex-libris] (1904) and to inquire the scientific value of the information. A gender perspective is applied to the study. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how students in higher education use talking books. This has been inves-tigated through qualitative interviews with nine students. The intention has been to find out how they use talk-ing books and why they have chosen to do it in the way they have, looking specifically on whether there are strategies shared by most of the interviewees.As a theoretical basis of the thesis I have chosen a study, described by Sigrid Hongset, where dyslectic pu-pils tried using printed text and text on tape, as well as both simultaneously. George Kingsley Zipfs ?Principle of least effort? will act as a supplemental theory.The interviews show that the students use talking books in different ways.

I denna uppsats undersöks hur 18 gymnasieelever i åk 1 lyckas med att skapa sammanhang i sina texter. Det överordnade syftet är att undersöka hur eleverna utnyttjar möjligheterna att bygga upp och markera avsnitt och stycken. Utifrån resultaten förs därefter en didaktisk diskussion. Ett annat syfte är att pröva huruvida ledfamiljsanalys är ett bra verktyg för att bedöma bra eller dålig styckeindelning. The Swedish and the Finnish compulsory care legislation that regards abusers differ in several ways. The arguments for compulsory care and for the time which one will receive compulsory care are dissimilar. The aim of this thesis is to describe and analyse which arguments for compulsory care and the length of the care time that has been expressed in the Swedish and the Finnish laws and in the statutes. The tools were an argumentation analysis, which is a form of qualitative text analysis method, combined with a hermeneutic scientific position. We have investigated the arguments that try to justify compulsory care and the care time that has been expressed in the laws and the statutes.

WPF is a newly introduced graphical system that is a part of Microsoft?s .NET Framework. This report will evaluate WPF and its features. A comparison is made mainly towards the previous version of .NET which is .NET 2.0. The work is partly theoretical and partly implementational.

Detta arbete har syftat till utveckla ett feminint, ungt och individuellt perspektiv på nio gymnasieflickors egna uppfattningar om och förståelse av en populärkulturell text, som de gavs tillfälle att i en gruppintervju beskriva med egna ord. Flera elever uttryckte synpunkter som i hög grad förde tankarna till ett postmodernt tänkande, fokuserat på individens önskningar och drömmar. En del elever tyckte att filmen tog upp kvinnofrågan anno 2009, dvs. att den fokuserade på kvinnans fria val att leva singelliv och rätt till ?manliga sexualvanor?, på hennes rätt till kvinnliga gemenskaper och genom dessa rätten till ett inbyggt bekräftelsesystem, på hennes rätt att vara kvinnlig i kombination med att ha en karriär och på åldersfixeringen i dagens samhälle.

Uppsatsen behandlar ett ämne som alltid är aktuellt i skolvärlden, nämligen hur bedömning av elever ska gå till och hur läraren ska få dem att utvecklas. Istället för att beskriva en idag, år 2013, aktuell undervisningsmetod, bedömning för lärande/formativ bedömning, behandlar föreliggande uppsats denna ?metod? som ett diskursivt konstruerat fenomen. Genom att ta utgångspunkt i Norman Faircloughs modell för kritisk diskursanalys behandlar föreliggande uppsats fenomenet på tre nivåer, i text, diskursiv praktik och social praktik. Utgångsläget, enligt denna metod, och teori, är att det ständigt pågår en förändringsprocess i alla sociala sammanhang som påverkas av det språkbruk som används just där och då.

I denna uppsats ges en allmän beskrivning av olika sätt att skapa talsyntes samt en mer noggrann beskrivning av hur man på relativt kort tid kan skapa en ny syntesröst med konkateneringssyntes. Den nya syntesrösten är unik eftersom det tidigare inte skapats någon kvinnlig syntesröst med sydsvensk dialekt. I inledningen finns en översikt över talsyntesens historia, beskrivning av tre olika sorters talsyntes samt en kort beskrivning av text-till-tal-syntes.Sedan beskrivs arbetet med pilotprojektet till den nya syntesrösten som var till för att utvärdera inspelningsmiljö, talarens röst och de metoder som användes vid inspelning, segmentering och vågformsgenerering. Resultaten visar bl.a. att det är stor skillnad i röstkvalitet då vågformen genereras på två olika sätt.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the female experience as it is spoken of in the novel Sindhia written by Rut Hillarp (1954) and how the main character in the book violates the experience from a queer perspective. My aim is to through a close reading highlight a number of discourses that underpin the book's imminent theme of love and submission.According to Norman Faircloughs critical-discourse analysis, the text one reads produces a certain amount of discourses that one consumes. This way there is a dialectical interaction that can be set into a practical analysis together with a suitable academic perspective. This is the method I use in this thesis.The academic perspective I add isJudith Butler's queer theoriessupported by Michel Foucaults social genealogyin order to understand/analyze the woman?s position in relation to a social empirical history.I came to the conclusion that Sindhia produces the woman's discourse from an ancient biblical/ mythological time up to modern time.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka hur SJ kommunicerar ut rätten till restidsgaranti till sina kunder via informationstexter publicerade på SJ.se. Detta gör jag genom att bland annat besvara frågorna: hur tilltalas mottagarna i texterna och på vilket sätt speglar texterna SJs policy som samhällsaktör, SJs roll inom allmänservice och som affärs- och vinstdrivande företag, sett i ljuset av de senaste årens avreglering av statliga företag i monopolställning. Som metod använder jag mig av Faircloughs kritiska diskursanalys och den interpersonella analysen. Materialet består av totalt tre texter från SJ som berör restidsgarantiersättningen. Resultatet visar att SJ växlar röstläge mellan att vara personlig och opersonlig.

Kultur är ett oerhört komplext och omfattande begrepp som finns omnämnt i de olika läroplanerna och i kursplanen i engelska. Eleverna ska bland annat reflektera över levnadssätt och kulturer i engelsktalande länder och kunna göra jämförelser med egna erfarenheter, även känna till något om vardagslivet i något land där engelska används. Det här är mål som ska uppnås i årskurs fem enligt kursplanen i engelska. Mitt syfte var att undersöka om läroböcker i engelska riktade till de yngre barnen, överensstämmer med vad styrdokumenten säger. Jag har gjort en text- och bildanalys av fyra olika läroböcker för att se vilka engelskspråkiga länder som representeras, hur de representeras, om eleverna får insikt i den mångkulturalitet som finns i världen och om de även kan göra jämförelser och få en förståelse av talad engelska i olika situationer.
