The attacks of September 11, 2001 have done more to focus attention on the conjunction of religion and conflict than any other event in recent history. Although much international research has focused since then on the role of Islam, religiously inspired violence is also found in countries as diverse as Thailand, Burma, or Sri Lanka, where Buddhism plays a central role. This paper addresses how these realities are reflected in two Swedish high school textbooks on religion. The thesis calls into question the manner in which Buddhism is presented in schoolbooks as the most probable candidate to be a conflict-free religion.Using Fairclough?s discourse analysis theoretical framework and Hellspong?s structural analysis, the thesis critically examines the relationship between text, the discourse practice in which text is produced and the wider social practices.

 This thesis aims to through certain parts of the brand equity investigate the trust of consumers for a brand that recently experienced a product-harm crisis. It also wants to investigate why this trust exist, if it does. Structured interviews were carried out at 60 respondents in Uppsala. The results show that the respondents have positive associations with ICA, they think that ICA maintains a high quality on their products and services and that 50% more often choose to do their grocery shopping at ICA. The conclusion of the study is that ICA has a strong brand equity resulting in brand trust from consumers, which is founded in the brand reliability and brand intentions of the company. .

The award-winning Norwegian novelist Karl Ove Knausgård achieved great success with his latest book, Min kamp. Both commercially and critically, the novel was praised for its seemingly successful attempt to transcend the boundary between fiction and real life. Focusing on the auto-fictional narrator?s struggle to balance his daily life with his ever so demanding aesthetic ambitions, the novel gives high-detail descriptions of the most basic day-to-day chores, intimately mixed with philosophical reflections on topics such as painting, literature and postmodern civilisation.This essay proposes an alternative perspective on the realism of the novel. The aim of this study is to examine the historical information about women?s libraries and book ownership during the early modern period in the work of Carl Magnus Carlander, Svenska bibliotek och ex-libris [Swedish libraries and ex-libris] (1904) and to inquire the scientific value of the information. A gender perspective is applied to the study. The aim of this thesis is to investigate how students in higher education use talking books. This has been inves-tigated through qualitative interviews with nine students. The intention has been to find out how they use talk-ing books and why they have chosen to do it in the way they have, looking specifically on whether there are strategies shared by most of the interviewees.As a theoretical basis of the thesis I have chosen a study, described by Sigrid Hongset, where dyslectic pu-pils tried using printed text and text on tape, as well as both simultaneously. George Kingsley Zipfs ?Principle of least effort? will act as a supplemental theory.The interviews show that the students use talking books in different ways.

The Swedish and the Finnish compulsory care legislation that regards abusers differ in several ways. The arguments for compulsory care and for the time which one will receive compulsory care are dissimilar. The aim of this thesis is to describe and analyse which arguments for compulsory care and the length of the care time that has been expressed in the Swedish and the Finnish laws and in the statutes. The tools were an argumentation analysis, which is a form of qualitative text analysis method, combined with a hermeneutic scientific position. We have investigated the arguments that try to justify compulsory care and the care time that has been expressed in the laws and the statutes.

WPF is a newly introduced graphical system that is a part of Microsoft?s .NET Framework. This report will evaluate WPF and its features. A comparison is made mainly towards the previous version of .NET which is .NET 2.0. The work is partly theoretical and partly implementational.

Detta arbete har syftat till utveckla ett feminint, ungt och individuellt perspektiv på nio gymnasieflickors egna uppfattningar om och förståelse av en populärkulturell text, som de gavs tillfälle att i en gruppintervju beskriva med egna ord. Flera elever uttryckte synpunkter som i hög grad förde tankarna till ett postmodernt tänkande, fokuserat på individens önskningar och drömmar. En del elever tyckte att filmen tog upp kvinnofrågan anno 2009, dvs. att den fokuserade på kvinnans fria val att leva singelliv och rätt till ?manliga sexualvanor?, på hennes rätt till kvinnliga gemenskaper och genom dessa rätten till ett inbyggt bekräftelsesystem, på hennes rätt att vara kvinnlig i kombination med att ha en karriär och på åldersfixeringen i dagens samhälle.

Uppsatsen behandlar ett ämne som alltid är aktuellt i skolvärlden, nämligen hur bedömning av elever ska gå till och hur läraren ska få dem att utvecklas. Istället för att beskriva en idag, år 2013, aktuell undervisningsmetod, bedömning för lärande/formativ bedömning, behandlar föreliggande uppsats denna ?metod? som ett diskursivt konstruerat fenomen. Genom att ta utgångspunkt i Norman Faircloughs modell för kritisk diskursanalys behandlar föreliggande uppsats fenomenet på tre nivåer, i text, diskursiv praktik och social praktik. Utgångsläget, enligt denna metod, och teori, är att det ständigt pågår en förändringsprocess i alla sociala sammanhang som påverkas av det språkbruk som används just där och då.

This essay deals with the support and help offered to elderly people over 65 with mental disabilities out of personnel from a special support team. We have chosen to use the qualitative method to answer our questions. We have four semi-structured interviews with all staff from the support team we have been in contact with, three nurses/nursing assistants and project manager for the support team. We have recognized five themes and divided the text into six different categories and disciplines that answers and highlights the importance of meeting clients' needs, increase their independence and quality of life. Our theme is security, continuity, time, treatment and relations.

I denna uppsats ges en allmän beskrivning av olika sätt att skapa talsyntes samt en mer noggrann beskrivning av hur man på relativt kort tid kan skapa en ny syntesröst med konkateneringssyntes. Den nya syntesrösten är unik eftersom det tidigare inte skapats någon kvinnlig syntesröst med sydsvensk dialekt. I inledningen finns en översikt över talsyntesens historia, beskrivning av tre olika sorters talsyntes samt en kort beskrivning av text-till-tal-syntes.Sedan beskrivs arbetet med pilotprojektet till den nya syntesrösten som var till för att utvärdera inspelningsmiljö, talarens röst och de metoder som användes vid inspelning, segmentering och vågformsgenerering. Resultaten visar bl.a. att det är stor skillnad i röstkvalitet då vågformen genereras på två olika sätt.

The purpose of this paper is to explore the female experience as it is spoken of in the novel Sindhia written by Rut Hillarp (1954) and how the main character in the book violates the experience from a queer perspective. My aim is to through a close reading highlight a number of discourses that underpin the book's imminent theme of love and submission.According to Norman Faircloughs critical-discourse analysis, the text one reads produces a certain amount of discourses that one consumes. This way there is a dialectical interaction that can be set into a practical analysis together with a suitable academic perspective. This is the method I use in this thesis.The academic perspective I add isJudith Butler's queer theoriessupported by Michel Foucaults social genealogyin order to understand/analyze the woman?s position in relation to a social empirical history.I came to the conclusion that Sindhia produces the woman's discourse from an ancient biblical/ mythological time up to modern time.
