Latent heat storage is a way to store thermal energy when a phase change material undergoes a phase change. The advantage of latent heat storage is the capability to store more energy per mass unit than other heat storage methods. The most commonly used phase change in latent heat storage is the transition between solid and liquid. Phase change materials can be divided into organics, inorganics and eutectics.In the Nordic electricity market the price of electricity is set every hour by Nordpool Spot, which leads to price fluctuations because of changes in demand. The main goal of this report is to create a latent heat storage system in a single-family home and investigate the possibility to save money by charging the latent heat storage system when the price of electricity is low, and discharge when the price is high.The thermodynamic model consisted of a ?tube-in-tube? heat exchanger with phase change material in the outer tube and water as the heat transfer fluid in the inner tube.

Some even claim that we are witnessing a mobility turn inthe social sciences. However, as the capacity to move has increased so too has the control and surveillanceof mobility become more extensive. The purpose of this thesis was to examine the relationship between feelings and visualizations of climate change. A case study was done on visualizations of climate change from a web page concerning climate change published by the Swedish newspaper Expressen and from the American photographer Gary Braasch?s web page ?World view of global warming?. The thesis is based on the article ?Emotional anchoring and objectification in the media reporting on climate change? by Birgitta Höijer.

Fire has historically been of great ecological importance in the boreal forests of Sweden. The forest fire regime has, however, varied between different parts of the country. The objective of this thesis is therefore to investigate the fire history in Fulufjället National Park and, on this basis, give suggestions for future fire management. The reconstruction of fire history was done by cross-dating fire scars in samples taken from living and dead Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris). Local fire chronologies were established at 17 points in the forests in and around Fulufjället National Park by cross-dating fire scars on 54 samples. The oldest year-ring dated from year 968.

In the last decade, member states of the European Union have adopted a range of measures to decrease the dependency on fossil fuels. This has led to an increased use of biomass in heat and power production. In some countries, the lack of forest resource has led to large scale power producers importing their biomass needs. Due to high energy content and homogeneity, wood pellets have become an internationally traded commodity used for large scale power production. The Baltic States have emerged as one of the largest wood pellet exporting regions in Europe.

Within the field of cinema studies, the question of visual representation is a fundamental pillar. An immense volume of theoretical work has been written on the subject, with various academic approaches such as feministic, postcolonial and gay/lesbian. Yet there is a large social group that seems to have been overlooked within the representational discourse: the elderly. This group of people appears to be a blind Spot on the multicultural retina, too often neglected within the area of cultural studies. But as the baby boomer generation, who has always redefined the different stages of life (youth, adulthood, middle age), is entering old age, things are slowly changing.

Food insecurity is a great problem worldwide and Ethiopia is one of the sub-saharan countries that are suffering from poverty and food insecurity and a large part of the population are living in a state of undernourishment. To reduce these problems, a successful horticulture production can be an important factor. Compared to other crops, fruit production in Ethiopia has not been a large part of the agricultural sector. However, the demand on the domestic market is increasing as well as the production for avocado and mango. To increase food security it is important to focus on ways to decrease post-harvest losses of food products and not only have the productivity of agriculture in focus.

Energilagring med hjälp av tryckluft (CAES) innebär att luft komprimeras och lagras för att expanderas vid ett senare tillfälle. Tillsammans med pumpkraftverk (pumpning av vatten till en högre liggande vattenreservoar) är komprimerad luft (CAES) de enda kommersiellt gångbara storskaliga energilagringsteknologierna i dagsläget. Utifrån de geologiska förutsättningarna i Danmark utvärderades lönsamheten för två olika typer av CAES-teknologier mer specifikt som teknologi för energihandel.Danmark medverkar i den nordiska elmarknaden och elhandeln sker genom Nord Pool Spot (ElSpot) där elpriset fastställs för var timme, dagen innan. Den dagliga prisvariationen år 2013 kunde, utifrån en empirisk analys av max- och minelpris, analyseras där elpriset var särskilt högt respektive särskilt lågt. Huvudmålet med denna rapport var därför att undersöka intäktsmöjligheter genom att med vald energilagringsteknik lagra energi vid lågt elpris för att senare sälja denna energi vid ett högt elpris.I dagsläget finns två CAES-anläggningar; en i Huntorf, Tyskland samt en i Alabama, USA.

Maskinell markberedning följt av manuell plantering är den vanligaste föryngringsrutinen efter en föryngringsavverkning i Sverige. Många av de forskningsrön som dagens markberednings- och planteringsinstruktioner bygger på är baserade på äldre fältexperiment. Uppföljningar av praktiska föryngringar i fält kan bidra med kompletterande kunskap över vilka svårigheter som finns beroende på ståndort, terrängförhållanden etc. Dessa erfarenheter kan sedan användas till att utvärdera gällande arbetsrutiner och instruktioner. Syftet med detta examensarbete var att utvärdera kvaliteten i det praktiska markberednings- och planteringsarbetet på SCA:s mark i Norrland.

As we travel more and more by train it becomes increasingly important that the time we spend traveling, is of great quality. This has been the foundation of this master thesis and has shaped the outcome of it. The traveling experience, that is, the experience of the landscape that flashes by outside the train window, is an important aspect in railway planning and an aspect that should be taken into greater consideration. The purpose of this master thesis has been to examine how to compose or improve the travel experience for an already planned high speed railway and how the travel experience can be combined with other aspects, which have claims on the landscape. This thesis is based on a literature study and a case study of Ostlänken. The work describes Ostlänken, a planned high speed railway in Sweden between Järna and Linköping, with top speeds at 300-320 kilometers per hour.
