Diversitet hos jordlöpare (Col: Carabidae) i hävdade strandnära gräsmarker :
Diversity of ground beetles (Col: Carabidae) in managed riparian grasslands.
The carabid community in moist seminatural grasslands was studied at three different sites in mid-Sweden. Pitfall trapping was carried out during six weeks in spring and early summer 2003. Eight transects, each containing seven pitfall traps, were placed in three different management regimes, either late or continous grazing, or meadow.
The Species composition was analysed by ordination analyses, i.e. DCA and CCA.
Hur påverkar bävern skogens värden?
The activities of beavers in forested landscapes affect both ecological and economical values. The creation of the dynamic wetland mosaic associated to beaver activities can even improve the quality of water and have been documented as an important landscape engineer affecting the environment for many species. The local office of Sveaskog in Skinnskatteberg is responsible for the management of large areas of the forests in the County of Västmanland. In this area one of several company?s goals are to create ten new wetlands in their own forests as a part of cooperation with the Swedish bird society and Swedish wetland association.
F?RS?LJNING AV OCH INST?LLNING TILL FR?MMANDE V?XTER I TR?DG?RDSBRANSCHEN
Alien plants that have intentionally been introduced to an area for cultivation in public or
private gardens constitute the primary pathway of introduction for invasive alien species that
spread into nature. Garden owners want species that have satisfying characteristics, these
characteristics are often also linked to plant invasiveness. Thus, the horticulture industry plays
an important role by making scientifically based decisions and phasing out invasive plants and
replacing them with alternative species with satisfying characteristics, but low risks of
becoming invasive. This thesis aimed to examine the sale of and the attitudes towards alien
plants in the horticulture industry in Sweden. Alien terrestrial plants identified to have a severe
risk, high risk or potentially high risk of spreading and becoming invasive according to
ArtDatabankens assessment, were examined to see if they were for sale.
Klimatinducerade fenologiförändringar och dess effekter i näringsväven
The climate affects animal populations through several processes. These processes includereproduction, phenology and the success of hunting. By influencing the phenology of species theclimate also affects the way species interact. If a climate-induced phenology change promotes abasal species to bud earlier in the spring for example, this will affect the links to other species inthe food web due to a time lag in the tropic levels above. This dependence, that a predator has tobeing synchronous to its prey, is called the match/mismatch hypothesis (MMH).
Selecting plant species for the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Carl von Linné at Möckelsnäs :
This report was an outcome of a cooperation between ?The Visitor and Knowledge Project Carl von Linné? and SLU, the Swedish University of Agricultural Science. The aim with the cooperation was to create a garden and to suggest suitable plants for an orangery already built. All species suggested should have a documented relationship with Carl von Linné. The project is located in the southern part of Sweden at an estate named Möckelsnäs not far away from Linné?s birthplace.
Sequi : Tredimensionell sequencer
Music production software has a strong tradition of two-dimensional graphical user interface (GUI), in which the time line is represented as a flat composition either horizontally (from left to right) or vertically (from top to bottom). In my degree work titled Sequi, I approach music composition from a different angle. Instead of a two-dimensional time line with only two possibly ways of progression (forward or backward) I constructed a three-dimensional GUI with the maximum of four different ways of progression from any given point in a composition. The height axis is used to describe time-intervals (the time between downbeats) and the wide and depth axes are used to describe progression from one sound to another..
V?n eller Fiende? En Studie om Kommunalt Milj?ansvarigas Perspektiv kring Invasiva Fr?mmande V?xtarter
Invasive alien plant species have historically caused major damage to ecosystems and are
considered to be amongst the greatest threats to biodiversity globally. The lurking threat of
harm to well functioning ecosystems has led to the development of global and regional goals
and regulations which seek to stop the spread of invasive species. The Swedish
Environmental Protection Agency has proposed a list of species that are specifically harmful
to the Swedish flora and fauna, which includes (amongst others) garden lupin. The
management of invasive species is however largely dependent on local actions, making
municipal public servants key players. This qualitative study uses interviews to investigate
how municipal public servants who are responsible for managing invasive alien species view
this work.
Död ved i gallrad skog och nyckelbiotoper : en jämförelse av habitatkvaliteter för vedlevande lavar och mossor
A high amount of dead wood is one of the most important prerequisites for high biodiversity on forest land in Sweden. Dead wood is most abundant in young forests, thinned forests, woodland key habitats and protected forest land. In old-growth forests most of the dead wood consists of logs and snags, whilst in managed forests a huge proportion of dead wood is made up of logging residues like stumps and FWD, fine woody debris (< 10 cm diameter). All these different types of dead wood may serve as substrates for epixylic bryophytes and lichens. However, few studies have been conducted on the relative importance of these different fractions of dead wood for the occurrence of bryophytes and lichens, especially when considering dead wood on thinned forest land.
Nätverkandets påverkan på organisationssammansättningen
Networking is an important part, for organizations, in the recruitment process. This since the emergence of Internet networking has become more common and the organizations finds that networking is applied more frequently in the recruitment process. Organizations have noticed that networking often is a more cost efficient option compared to traditional recruitment. Since networking in the recruitment process has increased, we intend to investigate if and how it affects the composition of organizations. This thesis aims to examine networking in the recruiting process, and aims to make no differences between networking offline and online.
Styrelsesammansättningens påverkan på revisorsarvodet
Introduction:By insight in the company and by monitoring the management, the board has an important function in creating trust in governance of the company. Furthermore, the board reduces the asymmetry of information between the owners and the management, which also is the function of the auditor, by auditing how the board governs the company and the accounting. In case the board does not effectively monitor the management, the auditor has to extend its monitoring, which increases the owners agency costs through the audit fee. The board composition can affect how effectively the board practices the monitoringProblem: How is the audit fee affected by the board composition?Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explain how the board composition affects the audit fee.Method: The study uses a quantitative method, where the data was collected from the annual reports of 112 limited companies listed on the NASDAQ OMX Large and Mid Cap lists on January 2, 2012.
AHA in northern Sweden ? a case study : conservation values of deciduous trees based on saproxylic insects
AHA is a Swedish abbreviation of "reveal threatened park and avenue trees" and is a method to assess the conservation value of individual trees, mainly in the park environments but also in natural stands. This method has previously only been practiced in southern Sweden (Sörensson 2008). To see if this method could provide satisfactory results in northern Sweden, I have studied it in areas around the Umeå River. This was done by studying the relationship between trees with different classifications of conservation value (as classed by the AHA method) and their content of species (species richness and abundance). Insects were collected using trunk window traps in a period of 13 weeks during the summer of 2014.
Habitat preference and dispersal of a sandassociated beetle, Apalus bimaculatus
Species that have a high degree of specialization and poor dispersal ability can be more prone to extinction than more generalist species and good dispersers. How these species traits affect the viability of populations is dependent on landscape factors, such as isolation and connectivity. Additionally, interactions between species (e.g. symbiosis), and how these interactions vary spatially and temporally can have a large impact on populations. When the range and habitat areas of a species continuously decrease, management strategies are often needed if the species shall be able to survive.
Scilla-släktets användningsmöjligheter i Sverige : med utgångspunkt i ståndort, egenskaper och historia
This study investigates the main question ?How can the small, blue spring bulb genera Chionodoxa, Puschkinia and Scilla be used in Swedish outdoor settings, with main focus on the genus Scilla?? This is done by answering four sub-questions: Which of these Scilla-species are hardy in Sweden? Which are their characteristics and habitats? What does their history of application look like? What is commercially available today? The aim of the work has been to make a survey of hardy and available Scilla-species, their character-istics, field of application and history. The purpose is to create a tool in the work with geophytes in different outdoor settings in Sweden, and to contribute to the discussion of new fields of application for bulb plants, such as Chionodoxa, Puschkinia and Scilla. The questions are answered through literature studies and discus-sions with knowledgeable persons in the field. First, an investigation and a survey of Scilla-species hardy and commercially available in Sweden, will be presented, where information of appearance, charac-teristics, habitats, varieties and historical and present application of the species will be found. With this background, a discussion around all the questions, today?s use and also new fields of application, has been carried through. The conclusions made from this study, are that there are today 15 Scilla-species commercially available and hardy for the Swedish climate.
Osteometriska Mätningar : För artbedömning av får, get och svin utifrån mått av revben
Ribs from sheep, goat and pig are rarely assessed to species due to the fact that they are very similar in their morphology and size. The ribs are instead considered unidentifiable although it is possible to see what kind of bone it is. If these ribs would be identified to species not only would species assessment degree of archaeological source material increase, the relationship between meat-rich and meat poor regions would change. To find out whether there are morphologically measurable differences between sheep, goat and pig ribs, three measurement points on each rib has been defined and measured. At each measurement point two measurements were measured, one medial-lateral measurement and one cranial-caudal measurement. The ratio between the medial- lateral measurement and the cranial-caudal measurement was calculated for each point.
Hur ser lavars fördelning ut runt stammen på ek, och påverkas den av trädets storlek och dess närmiljö?
The aim of this study was to describe preferences of geographic direction of ten, oak-living epiphytic lichen species and how they responded to sun exposure, nearby bushes and trees, bark fissure depth and circumference. The frequency of every species was recorded in arcs of ten degrees around the tree at a height of 130 to 180 cm above the ground. An estimation of the amount of every species in every arc was also recorded. To analyse how the distribution of the lichen species responded to the different factors their concentration for every tree was plotted against the four factors. The distribution of Cliostomum corrugatum had a positive response to high sun exposure and a negative response to a thick layer of bushes and trees.
