This report aims to provide an insight into the particle physics of today, and into the research that goes on within the field. The focus is partly on the recent discovery of the Higgs boson, and partly on how software can be used to simulate processes in particle accelerators. Basic concepts of particle physics and the search for the Higgs boson are discussed, and experimental results, including those from the Large Hadron Collider, are compared with simulations made in MadGraph 5. Furthermore, simple new models of particle physics are created in FeynRules, in order to make simulations based on the models. To support the presentations of these aspects, some of the underlying theory is built from the ground up.

Lean Production is used by many manufacturing companies. Companies in process industries do not use Lean Production to the same extent today. This is part of the report's issue to explore how Lean Production can be applied to a company in the process industries.The investigated company is a processing company that manufactures various types of foil. The company wishes to streamline its production and has therefore asked the authors to examine if Lean Production can offer the company improvements in their production. Lean Production value stream mapping tool has been selected to identify and analyze the current state of two of its products in production.

AbstractThe aim of this study is to highlight the professional?s perspectives and work with young girls who have eating disorder anorexia nervousa. We assume a social constructivist perspective where the professional?s interpretations and perspectives on the issue anorexia considered. The study is based on a qualitative analysis of interviews with seven professionals in the areas of work, social services, school counselor, school nurse, anorexia unit and child and adolescent psychiatry (BUP).From a thematic analysis of the interviews, three themes emerged.

För att kunna reproducera sig, växa, försvara sig eller fly krävs att kroppen har tillräckligt med energi och djuret måste därmed söka föda. Aptit och födosök regleras av många mekanismer i kroppen. De främsta aptitreglerande signalsubstanserna som frisätts perifert i kroppen och som styr om ett djur är hungrigt eller mätt, är ghrelin och leptin. Adiponektin är en substans som styr insulinkänsligheten i kroppen och därmed hur väl glukos kan tas in i cellerna och omvandlas till energi.

Through this thesis I aimed to further investigate how we can adapt our western and modern views of masculinity and femininity in an ancient population, here on the Pitted Ware population from Ajvide on Gotland. A questionnaire survey was used to compile the modern view of masculinity and femininity. This modern view was then compared with patterns which had become visible through statistical processing of the burial gifts found on Ajvide. The thesis is mainly focused around the concept of gender, but age and status have also been discussed. Through several performed correspondence analysis, it became clear that the current view of male and female differed from the one that became visible in the archaeological record.

Since several lifestyle diseases are associated with obesity much research is carried out within the area. Researchers have found that oxidation of fatty acids within the body?s cells may give rise to peripheral signals which regulate food intake, but it is still unclear where such a mechanism takes place. Although much evidence suggests that it is the hepatocytes in the liver that send signals regulating food intake, some researchers have begun to question this theory. Instead they argue that the mechanism takes place within the enterocytes since they are well localised in the gut for such assignment.

The aim of this study was to develop a load prognosis model for Uppsala district heating system to be used as a tool for heat production optimization. The methodwas to build three models for the different customer types; housing, industry andoffices and then scale them for the total system using data from Uppsala districtheating system. The heat load consists of two parts, one that is temperaturedependent and one that is dependent of the social behavior of the customers. Thetemperature part was modelled with an ARX model using an outdoor temperatureprognosis as input signal. The social behavior part was modelled using the mean ofthe social behavior from some days before and additionally by distinguishing betweenweekdays and weekends.

Today there are many studies that have shown positive results in the treatment of ICT at an early age. The focus of the studies vary, and they target everything from the actual implementation of teaching resources in ICT, to student performance with ICT support. Regardless of the amount of studies on the subject, there is no precise strategy for how to implement, working with ICT, integrate ICT in different subjects, utilizing the hardware and software that is or how it will eventually respond to new technologies. This work will there by focusing on trying to develop a basis for further research and hopefully in the future to develop an ICT strategy at a national level.In order to provide a basis, a comparison was made of ten different schools. The schools were entered into a table showing the similarities and differences .

Artikeln undersöker företags möjligheter att skapa ägarvärde genom olika typer av reklam riktad motinvesterare. Detta är en teoretisk möjlighet givet antagandet att investeringsbeslut präglas av enbegränsad rationalitet, där företag genom reklam kan skapa kännedom om och skapa positiva attitydergentemot företaget och dess aktie. För att empiriskt testa denna teori analyseras data från 183 börsnoterade företagi Sverige. Analysen visar dock att det inte finns några tydliga positiva samband mellan företags utgifter för reklamoch aktiens värdering. Datamaterialet antyder att reklamen har en mer positiv effekt för mindre företag än förstörre företag, men ingen statistiskt säkerställd slutsats kan dras om detta.

Tidigare studier har beskrivit en stark koppling mellan aritmetik och algebra och flera av de svårigheter som elever har med algebra antas därför grunda sig i svårigheter i aritmetiken. En sådan svårighet är parenteser och forskning har funnit att elever har en statisk syn på dessa då de endast ser den som en signal på vad som ska beräknas först i ett tal.Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka och beskriva vilka uppfattningar elever i årskurs 8 har då det gäller parentesen som matematisk symbol såväl som parentesens funktion. De frågeställningar som studien avsåg att besvara var hur elever uppfattar parentessymbolen i matematik, hur elever uppfattar att beräkningar kan struktureras med parenteser och hur elever uppfattar situationer där parenteser är nödvändiga.Ett individuellt skriftligt arbetsblad innehållande både uppgifter med och utan svarsalternativ användes som utgångspunkt för analys och detta delades ut till 84 elever i fem olika klasser i årskurs 8. Efter analysen framkom tre kategorisystem kopplade till var sin frågeställning, i vilka elevernas skilda uppfattningar representeras. Resultaten av denna studie visade att elevers uppfattningar och användande av parenteser påverkas av såväl deras förståelse för parentesbegreppet samt deras förståelse för prioriteringsregler..

The aim of my work was, from the point of view from my respondents and literature, to create a picture of why so many highly educated people born abroad don't have an employment that coincides with their education.The question at issue was: How come highly educated people born abroad don't have an employment that coincides with their education from the native country?In my work, I carried out interviews with six highly educated people born abroad that moved to Sweden in the 1990's. In my results and my conclusion I started with the view of the respondents and the literature, linked together to some theories I have found fruitful for my understanding of the respondents' answers.The theoretical starting point for analysis of my work was the human capital theory, the theory of growth, the signal and filter theory and Habermas' theory.The result of my studies show that there are several factors that causes many highly educated people born abroad to have difficulties in getting an employment that coincides with their education. Such factors are weaknesses in the language, the lack of networks within one's profession and the fact that it takes a long time to complement the education..

Self- determination and autonomy of elderly people living in long- stay care homes is the forefront of discussion in the media and in society today. It examines the extent to which elderly people actually have the opportunity for self- determination and to what extent they have an impact and influence in their daily lives. A suitable way to look at how the quality of long ?stay care looks like is too look at the extent to which the user has self- determination. The aim of our study was to examine how self-determination appears in long- stay care homes. We also talk about in what way the officials perceive self- determination and how elderly identify and perceive their right to self- determination and the importance it has for the individual. The essay has been made with the help of interviews and surveys on a number of long-stay care homes in Skåne.

Soapnuts have been used as a cleaning detergent and medicine since ancient times in different parts of Asia. Today soapnuts are sold as an environmentally friendly alternative to common washing detergents. The aim of this literary study is to give an answer to what it is in the soapnuts that makes them work as a washing detergent. The active component belongs to a group of components called saponins which are secondary metabolites with the purpose to protect the tree from pathogen attacks. Saponins are widely spread in the vegetable kingdom and some of the families and species are so rich in saponins that their names are influenced by this, for example Sapnindaceae and Sapindus which are mentioned in the beginning of this literary study.
