Inside the south Swedish national park Dalby Söderskog, wild boars (Sus scrofa L.) have been visiting since 2010. The presence of wild boars has earlier been proven to impact both soil and vegetation characteristics, both positively and negatively. Still, there is a lack of knowledge regarding the rooting effect on the vegetation in deciduous forest within the native range. In this study, I have compared the field vegetation collected before and after the invasion of wild boars in 74 permanent experimental plots. More specifically, the study aimed to qualify the effect of wild boar rooting on cover ratio, species richness and species composition in a temperate deciduous forest.

Syfte: Syftet med detta examensarbete är att kartlägga förkunskaperna i områdena fotosyntes, biologisk mångfald, växthusgaser, energi och hållbar utveckling, samt evolution och naturligt urval hos gymnasieelever som läser ämnet Biologi 1 på det naturvetenskapliga programmet på en gymnasieskola i västra Götaland. Syftet är också att utvärdera betydelsen av diagnostiska test för dessa elever och deras lärare. Avsikten är även att presentera möjliga förslag till att utnyttja resultaten av dessa test för att på bästa sätt kunna hjälpa de elever som har svårigheter i eller ligger i riskzonen för att ha svårigheter i dessa kunskapsområden i Biologi. Metod och genomförande: Undersökningen har dels genomförts med en diagnostisk test, dels genom intervjuer av tre lärare på gymnasieskolan. Eleverna har även fått två analysfrågor som berörde deras uppfattningar om användandet av denna test inom ämnet Biologi. Resultat: Resultatet visar att eleverna har bristande förkunskaper inom områdena fotosyntes och betydelse av växthusgaser. Både elever och intervjuade lärare är positivt inställda till diagnostisk test i Biologi.

The classic view of trout (Salmo trutta) life history is that trout begins its life in freshwater, migrates to the ocean after about 1-4 years and then returns to freshwater to spawn. As trout fry have been caught at the mouth of the River Emån, near the Baltic Sea, researchers have speculated that some trout emigrate during their first year of life. The purpose of this study was to describe the variation in the length of time trout reside in freshwater before they migrate to the ocean for the first time. Another purpose was to investigate whether it was possible to discern where and how long the fish spent in freshwater and saltwater during different parts of their lives. Between 2007 and 2009, 23 adult trout were captured in the River Emån in southeastern Sweden.

The lack of fresh and clean water today causes severe problems, mostly in developing countries. Waterborne diseases like typhoid, cholera, amoebic dysentery and diarrhea create health problems and deaths among people. There is a need for low cost interventions like household-based water treatment and safe storage (HWTS). Solvatten AB is a Swedish company based in Stockholm. Their product, Solvatten, is a household water treatment unit that can treat water containing viruses, parasites and bacteria.

Syfte: Studiens syfte var att reliabilitetspröva stabiliteten för M-SES för patienter med långvarig smärta genom test-retest metoden. Syftet var även att undersöka samtidig validitet för M-SES, genom att utföra M-SES och SES mätt vid samma tillfälle.Metod: I studien undersöktes self-efficacy instrumentet M-SES på Uppsala Akademiska sjukhus, på avdelningarna för Smärtcentrum och Smärtrehabilitering. Frågeställningarna berörde vilken stabilitets reliabilitet mätt med test-retest som förelåg hos M-SES, samt vilken grad av samtidig validitet som förelåg för M-SES korrelerat med SES. Den slutliga undersökningsgruppen bestod i frågeställningen om stabilitets reliabilitet av 29 patienter (23 kvinnor, sex män), och i frågeställning om samtidig validitet av 22 patienter (17 kvinnor, fem män).Resultat: Vid prövning av stabilitets reliabilitet för M-SES visade resultatet en stark korrelation, med korrelationskoefficient 0,92 och p<0,05. Det förelåg även en god överrensstämmelse för test-retest undersökningen.

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the usability of the Umeå University library catalogue Album. The aim is to evaluate the catalogue in order to establish if there are any problems that could be solved by modifying the catalogue. The following questions are answered: How should a good catalogue be designed? Which problems are common when using a library catalogue? Is Album user friendly? Are there any problems that occur when using Album and how can the catalogue be changed to avoid the problems? To answer these questions I have performed a usability test in which five persons, all students, got to carry out twenty tasks in the catalogue and talk about what they were doing and thinking while doing the test. This method is a usability method called Think Aloud.

The Goal with this Master of Science thesis is to expand the possible turbine efficiencymeasurements on an exhaust turbocharger. It was done as a part of the CICERO competencecentre. To feed the turbine with air a special flow rig has been used. Instead of loading theturbine by just restricting the compressor flow a docking system for an electrical dynamometer isdesigned to use the dynamometer as an additional loading source. By using an electricaldynamometer as loading device for the turbine, measurements are not depending on compressorperformance.A large part of the work consists in designing accessories for the dynamometer.

The aim of this thesis is to study how the recent introduction of video games in Swedish public libraries compares to past introductions of other medias, namely music records, sequential art, manga (Japanese comics), and films on video. In what ways does the introduction of video games differ from the other examples of introductions and in what ways are they alike? In what manner have the medias been introduced? How does the librarians views on video games differ from their views on other medias? The purpose of doing this is that by investigating how new medias have been evaluated in the past, we might gain an understanding of how the introduction of video games links into that tradition. Theoretically, this thesis is grounded in Sanna Talja?s theory of the interpretative repertoires of the music library.

SAMMANFATTNING Läkemedelsresistens är ett växande globalt problem. Inte minst bland parasiter hos våra djur har rapporter om utebliven effekt av läkemedel ökat. Pålitliga detektionsmetoder av anthelmintikaresistens hos nematoder är viktig så att åtgärder sätts in i ett tidigt skede för att djurvälfärd och produktion ej försämras. Detta kräver standardiserade och beprövade detektionsmetoder. De metoder som används idag för flertalet nematoder är ursprungligen framtagna och anpassade för strongylider hos får.

Technology evolves quickly, with innovative ideas growing everywhere. Still, no technology is anywhere near challenging the mouse and keyboard for navigation of your standard computer. This study focuses on comparing the traditional technologies of mouse and keyboard with the new technology of gestures - in this case Leap Motion - in purpose of finding how the usage differs and what the potential users want from the competing technology. The experiment was executed in a controlled environment, with as few external factors as possible. We found that although the test subjects found Leap Motion fun, the test subjects do not want to surf the web with gestures.

ÅF Test Center in Borlänge had a need to expand their capacity for compressive and tensile strength tests. They wanted to do this by using a hydraulic cylinder, which they already possessed, to apply the force with. This required a load receiving structure. The aim of this work was to design and dimensioning a test bench for a cylinder marked NIKE 300 tons. The work would result in a completed design proposal on a test bench which could manage to run the compressive and tensile strength tests of up to 3000 kN.

Scientists are discussing whether there is a connection between these areas and that the pupils deteriorating math skills may have something to do with their increasingly lower results in terms of reading comprehension. To investigate this possible connection, I conducted a survey among students in ninth grade and have come to the conclusion that the scientists are right: this connection absolutely exist. Students who received a high score on tasks designed to test students' mathematical problem-solving skills, also received high results on the reading comprehension test. And students who received a poor performance on the problem-solving tasks, were also low performers in the reading comprehension test.

Syfte: Studiens syfte var att jämföra resultaten vid mätning av motorisk och sensorisk ögondominans med hjälp av ett test ur vardera kategori, för att undersöka om dessa ger samma resultat och därför kan anses likvärdiga vid mätning av ögondominans. Metod: Två olika dominanstest utfördes på 30 stycken testdeltagare i åldrarna 21-32 år vilka alla hade samsyn och balanserad visus mellan ögonen. +1D test användes för att mäta den sensoriska dominansen (ögonprevalensen) och håltestet användes för att mäta den motoriska dominansen. Dessa test valdes då de är frekvent använda bland optiker idag, och då deras utförande kräver minimalt med utrustning.Resultat: 73,3% av deltagarna uppvisade samma dominans enligt båda testen, 13,3% uppvisade olika dominans vid mätning av båda testen och resterande 13,3% uppvisade dominans för håltestet men icke dominans för +1D testet.Slutsats: Jämförelsen mellan håltest och +1D test visade en korrelation på 73%, varför de kan anses vara statistiskt korrelerade. Denna höga korrelation medför att dessa två tester därför kan anses jämförbara vid mätning av ögondominans. .

Background: Goodwill has always been frequently discussed and a lot of scientific research has been done regarding factors that affect companies? impairment of goodwill. Previous research has concluded that companies reporting low results are more prone to do impairments of goodwill than companies reporting better results which possibly can be seen as a form of earnings management.Purpose: The purpose of this essay is to examine if goodwill impairments occur to a greater extent among Swedish listed companies when the companies are reporting lower earnings. A subsidiary purpose is to see if there has been an improvement since 2008 regarding the size of reported goodwill in comparison to equity in the years 2009-2011. And to analyze the development of the companies goodwill impairments in relation to reported goodwill.Methodology: Three quantitative studies have been performed for the years 2009-2011 where all the listed companies on NASDAQ OMX Stockholm have been included.
