Skönlitteratur som kulturell bro: om utländsk skönlitteraturs tillgänglighet på svenska

This study is an attempt to shed light on the importance of fiction as a bridge between different cultures and traditions. The objective of this essay is threefold. First it explores the potentiality of fiction as a communication channel between different cultures, societies and social groups. Secondly, it studies the availability of foreign fiction in Swedish language. And thirdly it tries to approach and analyze the structures and mechanisms behind that availability.

Då, nu och science-fiction : En studie av skönlitteraturens potential att utveckla elevers historiemedvetande

Denna studie undersöker skönlitteraturens potentiella möjlighet att utveckla historiemedvetande hos elever på svensk gymnasieskola. Syftet med undersökningen är att se om den skönlitterära författaren skapar förutsättningar för historiemedvetande och i så fall hur samt visa på hur skönlitteratur kan användas i en ämnesövergripande svensk- och historieundervisning enligt Gy11. Två romaner undersöks, den historiska romanen Boktjuven samt science-fiction-romanen Hungerspelen. Dessa romaner dekonstrueras med hjälp av analysschemat Inomvetenskaplig och utomvetenskaplig historieskrivning för att se om romanerna kombinerar historieförmedlande och skönlitterära grepp i en växelverkan mellan distans och närhet, något som enligt Carina Renander kan leda till ett potentiellt utvecklat historiemedvetande. Resultatet från denna analys kopplas sedan samman med Gy11 och exempel på undervisningssituationer presenteras.

A study was made by way of a questionnaire, including 56 young adults, and seven qualitative interviews with two groups: one at a folk highschool and the other at a public library. The theories we have used to analyse the results are: theories of gender and youth, theories of literary genres, reader-response criticism, literature sociology and the theories of cultural sociology by the sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. In the analysis the results are compared to other studies of reading habits. Results from this study show that the young adults read fiction from several genres among popular- and quality literature.

Studien är en applicering av Foucaults Övervakning och straff på Science fiction-romanen The Left Hand of Darkness av Le Guin. The purpose of this Master's thesis is to study how children's and youth librarians mediate non-fiction books in public libraries. Our overarching research question is as follows: to which extent, how, and for what reasons do children's and youth librarians mediate non-fiction? We have chosen to limit our study to the practice of booktalking.In order to answer questions on extent we conducted a quantitative survey of booktalking children's and youth librarians in Skåne. To answer our other questions on behaviour and attitudes we conducted observations and interviews with six librarians who include non-fiction in booktalks for children in primary school. As a way to study behaviour we examined librarians' selection criteria and methods.

Skönlitteraturens placering i folkbibliotek och dess återvinningsmöjligheter i Online Public Access Catalogue: En fallstudie över tre folkbibliotek i Västsverige

The purpose of this Masters thesis is to study how three public libraries in the west of Sweden have arranged their fiction for adults on shelves and what the possibilities for fiction retrieval are in their Online Public Access Catalogues OPAC. The theoretical framework includes a practical part consisting of Jarmo Saartis ideas about shelf arrangement and a theoretical part consisting of Annelise Mark Pejtersens different dimensions. The methods used in the case study are three interviews with librarians, visits in the libraries and searching in the libraries OPACs. Furthermore, we have summarized relevant literature about this subject in a summary of research. The analysis shows that our three libraries have arranged their fiction in a traditional way according to Saartis ideas about shelf arrangement.

This thesis examines what automatic indexing and genre classification may bring to fiction. The thesis studies five theorists of the subject to find out what the biggest problems are concerning fiction indexing. The thesis also investigates which automatic text analysis methods that can be effective for automatic indexing and genre classifying fiction. To show that it is possible according to philosophy of language to index fiction, in particular to automatically index it. Wittgenstein?s, Barthes? and Ricoeur?s language and fiction theories are presented and used to problemize the subject.

Förändring av cyberpunkgenrens stereotypiska nattema

Cyberpunkgenren definieras som en genre med en uttalad mörk framtidsbild med dystopiska inslag där bioteknik och artificiell intelligens är återkommande inslag och där majoriteten av verken som berör genren utspelar sig på natten. Syftet med denna studie har varit att undersöka om förändringar av det stereotypiska nattelementet som cyberpunkgenren förknippas med anses vara genrebrytande. Förändringen som gjordes var att nattbelysningen byttes ut mot dagsbelysning i en cyberpunkmiljö. För att genomföra detta skapades en stereotypisk cyberpunkmiljö med hjälp av datorgrafik som sedan presenterades i två versioner, en i nattbelysning och en i dagsbelysning. Bilderna visades därefter upp för en informantgrupp som var kunnig inom Science fiction och cyberpunkgenren och som därefter fick besvara ett antal frågor under semistrukturerade kvalitativa intervjuer..

The aim of this paper is to examine why Swedish teachers and multilingual secondary   school pupils think it is important to read fiction, how Swedish teachers work with fiction in the multicultural classroom and how they motivate their multilingual pupils to read more by adapting fiction to their capabilities and experiences. We have done interviews with four Swedish teachers and 12 multilingual pupils. The following questions are the starting point of this essay:Why do Swedish teachers and multilingual pupils think that it is important to read fiction?  ?How can the Swedish teachers in the multicultural classroom motivate their multilingual pupils to read more fiction?The result of this paper showed that both the Swedish teachers and the multilingual pupils thought it was important to read fiction because it partly gives themselves the opportunity to acquaint with other cultures and it helps them to improve their language. The teachers motivate their multilingual pupils by reading out loud, reading in groups and by minimizing language difficulties that may occur in the fiction.

The paper examines how human inner properties and the interpretation of the external worldare explained and presented in Dark City (Alex Proyas, 1998). Aspects as the relationship between the body and soul/consciousness, body snatching, memory transferences and dystopian cities are analyzed. The field of study is compared to a general science-fiction film perspective regarding the aspects. Dark City contains an alien race with a common mind, but who lacks soul and individuality. They represent what humanity can become if the scientific development goes too far.

Faktaboken i praktiken : hur ett antal barn- och ungdomsbibliotekarier arbetar med faktaböcker i sin lässtimulerande verksamhet

The purpose of this thesis is to study how children's librarians in public libraries use non-fiction books in their work to promote reading. My research questions are: What methods do children's librarians use för promoting non-fiction books? Are there children who can gain more from non-fiction books than other children do? Are there any differences in working with fiction and non-fiction books? To answer these questions I have interwieved five children's librarians about their methods, attitudes and thoughts on non-fiction books.The result shows that all of the librarians use non-fiction when it comes to promotion reading but not to the same extent. Some hardly use it at all, mainly because the schools that they are serving demands fiction books when practicing reading skills. while others use it but in less extent than fiction, as a way of separating the library reading from school work either because they want to keep the experience of reading in the library apart from school work or because they find it more efficient to do so.

The purpose of this master?s thesis is to investigate the reading habits of six men who do not read fiction. The reason for my interest is the fact that men statistically read less fiction than women, and that there are few existing studies of this subject. The study investigates why these men do not read fiction, their attitudes towards literature, their reading habits, their leisure-time interests and if they experience fiction from other activities. Furthermore the study includes a discussion of whether or not there might be a connection between the men?s reading habits and their identity as men, as well as a discussion of all of the above in relation to their social background.

Bland puppyshippers och Orange Crushers ? en studie av drivkrafterna bakom läsande och skrivande av Harry Potter-fan fiction.

The aim of this Master?s Thesis is to study readers and authors of Harry Potter fan fiction, in order to answer the question of why they read and write fan fiction about Harry Potter, and which factors determine what kind of fan fiction stories they read. The empirical material consists of three qualitative interviews with fan fiction readers and authors, and a textual analysis of four internet forums for discussions about Harry Potter and fan fiction. The theoretical background is based on reception theory and reader-response criticism. The results show, that commitment to, and interest in, the source material is an important reason as to why the participants of the study read and write Harry Potter fan fiction.

Textila Konstruktioner i Rymddimensioner

Mitt arbete handlar om mötet mellan rysk konstruktivism och Science fiction. Detta har jag gestaltat i ett textilt rum inspirerad av Science fictionkarraktären Doktorn ur Doctor Who. Doktorn är en utomjording av en långt mer utvecklad art och från en mer avancerad civilisation än människorna, som reser i tid och rum i sitt tids-och rymdskepp TARDIS. Jag har designat ett rum som är min textila tolkning av TARDIS innersta. Arbetet kretsar kring tankar om gestaltning av en flerdimensionalitet som bara kan anas, inte ses eller förstås.

Skönlitteratur ett läromedel? : - Sju författare och en litteraturpedagog resonerar om skönlitteraturens betydelse i skolan

The essay concerns the role of fiction in school. The research questions is; what is ?readable?, what does the authors think of teacher's task to develop students' literacy skills through fiction and how do the authors think of the teachers' task of using fiction in school. The questions give a basis that describes the role of fiction in school today based on the authors' perspective. We have chosen to use the open surveys as a method.
