Abstract Back ground: Home based care is a meaningful activity giving patients and their families a chance to live their lives as close to normal as possible. Advanced palliative care is today provided at home, although geography does play a role in shaping that care. A rural setting can mean that conditions for such care differ from those in urban areas.Purpose: To describe the experiences of district nurses in palliative home care settings in a rural community.Method: Semi structured interviews with seven district nurses. The interviews were recorded digitally and transcribed in a precise fashion. A method of qualitative analysis of the contents, inspired by Burnard, was used to analyze the material. Results: Palliative care places high demands on the competency and experience of district nurses.
The aim of this thesis is to show what effects population changes in Rural areas may have on the regional policy which is used today and what are the consequences.
Stadsdelsparken Skälby i Kalmar : historia, nuläge och framtida utveckling
Skälby park is situated approximately 2,5 km
northwest of the central parts of Kalmar and is
one of fi ve town part parks. Originally Skälby
consisted of a village of four farms. In 1965
the municipality in Kalmar bought Skälby and
the agriculture ceased to appear. The land was
parcelled out into plots and new roads. Only
the area surrounding the old buildings remained,
turned to a park.
Many jobs in Rural areas have historically been linked to the agricultural sector. The restructuring that has been implemented in agriculture has resulted in a significant reduction in the number of jobs in Rural areas. A consequence of this is that many people have moved to cities to earn a living. To maintain a living countryside in Sweden, it is therefore essential to create alternative livehoods in Rural areas. An industry that can have a major impact in the future is rural tourism.
With this essay, I want to examine the image of Russians in the Swedish rural press during the second half of the 19th century, how rusophobia appeared in Swedish rural press and how the image of Russians changed during this time. To find this out, I set these questions: ? How was Russians and Russia portrayed in the Swedish rural press? ? Did the view of Russians change during this time? The essay is written so that I have interpreted my empirical material to do a discourse analysis in which I analyse different articles that have been written about Russia and Russians in a stereotypical way. The source material used in the thesis comes from 41 news articles; the bulk of the source material comes from newspapers that were published during the late 19th century.Rural press reporting on Russia and Russians were in the second half of the 19th century mostly negative. Of the 41 articles that were examined it was found that about half were negative, less than one-sixth were positive, while about a third were neutral. The reason that many of the articles were negative has to do with Sweden's shared history with Russia, with many wars and territorial losses.
Wermland was affected by the Spanish flu like the Swedish national average, about a half percentage of Wermlands population would lose their lives to the flu during the autumn 1918. The flu has for many fallen into oblivion. This oblivion is so wide spread that it´s possible to talk about a "collective forgetfulness". The society have selected to remember 1918 for "when the guns went quiet on the western front" and not for the millions who died from the treacherous Spanish flu. The world had already suffered enough from the four years of war that had been fought, thus the victims of the flu would be honored but would soon fade in to oblivion. When you investigate deeper you get the picture that the national average don´t do Wermland and its cities or Rural areas any justice when a large variations seems to occur within regional areas.
The overall aim is to examine how the European Union Water Framework Directive has affected the local water management in the catchment Märstaån situated in the eastern part of the lake Mälaren river basin, Sweden. The first part of the study gives an historical overview of the area with focus on how the old agricultural landscape was handling the nutrient load from farming activities by means of different kinds of wetlands. By using the concept of the procedural landscape, introduced by Torsten Hägerstrand , together with historical maps with dates starting from the 17th century, the pre-modern landscape is analyzed. The second part is an investigation, based on qualitative data, on how the different actors in the catchment area work together to secure the water quality for the Märstaån river. The analysis shows that the Märstaån catchment river systems are mostly unchanged in the Rural areas. The exception is the mainstream section of the Märstaån river running partly underground today and the Halmsjöbäcken river that is heavily affected by the Arlanda airport situated within the catchment area.
I have studied the suburban
municipality of Botkyrka, south of
Stockholm, from a rural perspective.
Through that I`ve compared how
countryside comes into being with the
planning and building of suburbs.
I have looked for a definition of
Countryside, and found that it is
often explained or defined in negative
terms, as what it is not. In that it
says nothing about what it really is,
or about the qualitiies it has to it.
Botkyrka is a suburb, but it does in
large parts consist of countryside.
Apart from defining countryside and
rural I´ve been searching for a
definition of suburbia, of it´s
structure and the mental picture we
have of it as a cultural phenomena.
In order to understand the role that
suburbs have in planning I describe
their history from Italian
renaissance villas to sprawl.
By opposing urban and rural, modern
urban planning and how Rural areas
are created, I´ve come to a
definition of rural planning and the
making of countryside. To make
countryside, planning and building
should come from individual needs and
desires. A relationship to the
surroundings based on continous
interaction between the human beeing
and it´s environment, a constant
process of shaping and reshaping.
To put my thoughts to the ground I
have collected examples of projects
and ideas, that fits into my view of
what rural planning and making
countryside is all about. They are
put in different categories according
to the possibilities of influence and
to what degree it is put into private
hands.
The first category is
?allemansrätten?, every mans right.
That is the rigt to use private land
as long as you don´t disturb or
destroy.
The structure of the Swedish public library field has been evolving during the last decades. The traditional mission of educating the citizens to become responsible, democratic and knowledgeable members of society has in a way led to the integration between public and school libraries. Lately new co-operational models have been under debate and a sense of resistance has arisen because of the economical and market influences. In parallel with closure of library branches new libraries have evolved in malls and wash houses and some with self-service with no use of librarians. This work shows how co-operation in Rural areas finds the common goals for the people living there who are concerned about keeping the service needed including the public library and thus using existing means and crossing borders of commercial thinking.
Zoonotic Pathogens at the Interface between Humans and Animals in Cambodia, a Rural Approach
A zoonosis is a disease or infection that is naturally transmitted between vertebrate animals and humans. The majority of infectious diseases that affect humans are zoonoses. Environments where wild animals, domestic animals and humans live in close proximity with no or small boundaries in the ecological system favor the transmission of diseases between animals and humans. The above described situation is more common in low income countries, where humans and animals live in high density and zoonoses are generally more common. The study was conducted in Cambodia.
Gestaltning och förverkligande av Icehotels utemiljö säsongen 2009/2010
This paper constitutes graduate work at the landscape
architecture program at the Department of Urban
and Rural Development at the Swedish University of
Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala. The main purpose of this
paper is to create a project from an idea to reality. The
place for the project is the environment of Icehotel in
Jukkasjärvi in the north of Sweden. Icehotel is a unique
hotel concept and each winter a hotel, a church and a
bar is built at the area of only ice and snow, and each
spring it all melts down and returns to the Torne river.
During the project a plan for the environment, in ice and
snow, will be made and then a part of it will be built in
January 2010. The purpose is to improve the outdoor
environment with landscape architecture to enhance the
experience of Icehotel and create an exciting entrance to
the area.
Bergunda Storkommun ? Folkbiblioteksutvecklingen i en landskommun

The main question is divided up in sub-questions: the district uniting in 1952 and 1971; personnel; lending; library housing and the public library structure. In 1952, there is one public library, Bergunda public library, and four study circle libraries.
The area around the stream Orsundaan, which runs trough the valley Harsbacksdalen, is famous for its beautiful landscape. The upper area of Orsundaan and Harsbacksdalen is situated just south of Heby in Uppland, Sweden. Even though the area is protected by different nature conservation acts, it is difficult to find any information about the geodiversity in the area. Geodiversity, or geological and geomorphological diversity, includes the concepts of geoprocesses and geoelements. Very high geodiversity could be seen at an inventory of the geomorphology in the upper area of Orsundaan and Harsbacksdalen.
Castration coverage and attitudes towards a castration program in Lilongwe, Malawi
The aim of this study was to measure the castration coverage and the attitudes among people towards castration in an area in Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi, where a castration program has been running for a few years. Another aim was to review the literature to examine the link between castration coverage and rabies prevalence. Two areas (Area 25 and Area 23) in Lilongwe were studied through standardized household interviews. In Area 25, a non-governmental organization had been castrating dogs weekly to twice weekly for free for 3 years. In Area 23, no official organization had done castrations, and this area therefore acted as a control in the study.
