Varje år diagnostiseras cirka 200 barn med juvenil idiopatisk artrit (JIA) i Sverige. Det är inte bara inom specialistvården sjuksköterskor möter barn med JIA, utan även inom allmän sjukvård. Syftet med studien var att belysa omvårdnad för barn med juvenil idiopatisk artrit. Studien är en litteraturstudie. Resultatet belyser vad som är viktigt vid omvårdnaden för barn med JIA.

The high incidence of cranial cruciate ligament injury in dogs results in both suffering and significant costs due to treatment and care of affected dogs. Today there are several different technics for surgical treatment in dogs with ruptured cranial cruciate ligament. At University Animal Hospital (UDS), SLU, in Uppsala two fundamentally different methods; TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) and external fixation with suture material are practiced. The aim of this study was to estimate if the different surgery technics result in any difference regarding the function of the dog in a long term perspective. Since motion and function are very affected by arthritis, was the purpose also to determine if there are any differences in developing arthritis between dogs surgical treated with external fixation respectively with TPLO. Development of arthritis is common after surgery or traumatic injuries in a joint, such as cruciate ligament rupture. Unfortunately was the number of dogs in the study to small to achieve two comparable groups.

Hemoglobin is built up from protein and heme groups which give the blood its red colour . Hemoglobin transports oxygen and carbon dioxide between the lungs and other tissues in the body. Normally, a piglet has a hemoglobin value of 130-150 gram per liter blood, and the lower limit before anaemia appears is 80 grams per liter blood. The immune defense is also dependent upon the presence of iron in hemoglobin, since iron participates in different enzyme systems. When the piglet develops anaemia, it becomes pale and thicker around the neck.

SAMMANFATTNINGHydroterapi har under en längre tid använts som behandlingsform, men det är brist på forskning inom området.Syftet med denna studie var att undersöka upplevelsen av hydroterapi hos personer med reumatisk sjukdom. En kvalitativ ansats anlades och enskilda semistrukturerade intervjuer användes.Deltagarna rekryterades genom bekvämlighetsurval via en kontakt på en reumatologklinik. Sex personer inkluderades: fem hade reumatoid artrit och en hade pelvospondylit.Resultatet tolkades med hjälp av en kvalitativ innehållsanalys, som visade på att deltagarna i denna studie var positivt inställda till hydroterapi. Deltagarna upplevde att hydroterapin ledde till minskad smärta, ökad rörlighet samt ett ökat välmående. Utöver de upplevda positiva effekterna återfanns även upplevda negativa effekter i form av träningsvärk och en ökad stelhet under sommaruppehållen.

?Tollarsjuka? is a disease with a suspected immunopathological background seen in Nova Scotia duck tolling retrievers. Pyrexia, lameness, stiffness and joint- or musclepain are typical clinical signs. The purpose of this study is to describe case histories from dogs with a possible evidence of ?tollarsjuka?. 18 private dogs were included in this report. Generalised stiffness, lameness and fatigue were the most frequent manifestations of the disease.

Background The Shetland Sheepdog is a popular breed of dogs in Sweden. The breed is mostly used as a companion dog and is also popular within certain dog sports such as agility. The Shetland Sheepdog is not included in any breeding programs regarding joint health. The animal insurance company, Agria had recently informed the Swedish Shetland Sheepdog Club (SSSK) that they had noted an increasing number of arthritis in the elbow joints, therefore they wanted to exclude elbow joints from the insurance until SSSK started a breeding program against elbow dysplasia. After the start of this study Agria withdrew their demand, but the study went on as planned. Aims of this study The aims of this study was to investigate if there is any data that may show if there is a larger or smaller reason than before to suspect that the breed has a problem with elbow dysplasia and therefore would benefit from a breeding program regarding this.

Samtalsgrupper anordnas av PatientForum tillsammans med olika vårdavdelningar på UMAS och vänder sig till personer som blivit nydiagnostiserade med en kronisk sjukdom. Reumatoid Artrit, RA är en autoimmunsjukdom och det finns idag inget botemedel mot den. Data inhämtades genom sju intervjuer med samtalsdeltagare. Syftet med studien var att undersöka vad det betyder för en individ med RA, att delta i en samtalsgrupp samt hur deltagaren upplever det att få diagnosen RA. Resultatet visade att deltagarna tyckte att samtalsgruppen kan vara en positiv aspekt i behandlingen av RA. I samtalsgruppen fann deltagarna en trygghet och gemenskap.

The Swedish Welfare Act § 4 says that "Animals must be kept and cared for in a good environment for animals and in such a way that promotes their health and allow them to behave naturally." Pigs in the wild spend 80% of their waking hours walking around and rooting for food, eating and exploring their environment with its snout. Fattening pigs in commercial farms spend 80% lying doing nothing. A lactating sow is lying down most of her day, and only 10-20% of the body surface is in contact with the floor, so the pressure is high on these spots. Piglets lie down and paddle with their legs, with high liquid content in the tissues, several times an hour, to stimulate and massage the sow's udder. In the existing system, these individuals are held more often on floors that are anything but inviting to sleep on.

On average half of the sows in Swedish piglet producing herds are culledannually. A significant portion of the sows are euthanized because of lameness orparalysis. Young sows and gilts are overrepresented in the category of animals,culled due to injuries in the musculoskeletal system. These injuries cause pain tothe animals. Early culling of sows/gilts also have economical consequences forthe producers.

In this essay suggested pathogenesis of secondary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA) is reviewed. HOA, characterized by; periostitis, periosteal proliferation of tubular bones and arthritis can develop due to many different underlying diseases. The syndrome is most commonly seen with intra-thoracic malignancy or chronic pulmonary infections. HOA has previously mainly been described in humans and various domesticated species. More recently, through wildlife disease monitoring, cases have also been found among wild animals.

Background: To wait on an emergency department is a reflected and well-documented problem. Thou it´s mainly due to a patient perspective should also nurses' perspectives be significant to obtain a faceted perception of the phenomenon.Aim: The purpose of this study was to describe how nurses perceive the phenomenon of anticipation of a somatic emergency department.Method: The analysis was performed using a phenomenological approach. The study was conducted in a medium-sized hospital in southern Sweden, during the latter part of 2005, and had a qualitative approach based on a lifeworld perspective. Data collection consisted of written stories from twelve nurses.Results: The results indicated that the waiting was the scene of the expectations. These expectations led to dilemmas, powerlessness and frustration, the more the phenomenon was allowed to stand.

Intradermaltest används för att identifiera sjukdomsorsakande allergener hos patienter allergiska mot ämnen i omgivningen (atopiker). Intradermaltest på häst utan sedering är väl beskriven i litteraturen. Sedering är dock ofta önskvärd för att underlätta det praktiska genomförandet av testet samt för att minska den stress som djuret utsätts för. Intradermala injektioner kan även antas orsaka ett visst obehag hos patienten, varför analgesi är önskvärt. Någon dokumentation avseende om premedicinering i form av sedering och analgesi påverkar testresultatet hos häst finns för närvarande inte publicerad.

The genus Borrelia is a widespread, pathogenic pest and the causative of among others borreliosis or Lyme disease. The vector for the bacteria is the hard tick, Ixodes ricinus and the infection is transferred through a bite. Untreated, Borrelia may cause arthritis, heart damage or neuroborreliosis. Infection is made possible through different strategies for avoiding the body?s complement system.

Syfte: Syftet med denna studie var att belysa hur en långvarig sjukdom som JIA upplevs av barn, ungdomar och deras familjer. Metod: Metoden som användes var en allmän litteraturöversikt.

Pigs in Swedish organic production systems have been shown to have more findings of arthritis at slaughter, compared to pigs in conventional pig production. With this in mind a study was performed, to primary, investigate variation in exterior, gait and weight gain between sire breeds and, secondly, to investigate variation between herds, season, gender, age and assessment occasion on these recordings. Swedish commercial hybrids, crosses between Norwegian Landrace and Swedish Yorkshire were inseminated with either Hampshire or Duroc as terminal sire. All the pigs had known pedigree as each semen dose contained sperms from one individual boar. All piglets were individually tagged closely after birth, and exterior and gait assessment were performed at two separate occasions, early and late during the fattening period.
