Pheromones are chemical substances representing very specific signal messages within a species. Although a lot remains unknown about their precise effects, it is known that pheromones influence the behaviour of the receiver. Since the mid 1990s, when it was first possible to synthesise analogues of two fractions of feline facial pheromone, F3 (Feliway®) and F4 (Felifriend®), these have been used in so called pheromonotherapy to treat behavioural problems in cats. The initial use of pheromones for specific behavioural problems has been extended to cover the wide field of stress related issues. This studycontains a questionnaire where veterinary nurses and surgeons at 50 Swedish veterinary hospitals and clinics were asked about their use of synthetic analogues to feline facial pheromones in the care and treatment of cats.

Feline odontoclastic resorptive lesion (FORL) is a tooth disease affecting both domestic and wild cats. Although FORL was described as early as the 1920´s, the etiology is still unclear. Several hypotheses have been presented but different studies have obtained contradictory results, and today there is no generally accepted etiology. Teeth affected by FORL are characterized by root resorption with progressive destruction of the tooth structure and alveolar bone as a consequence of clast cell activity. The disease is considered very painful when reaching a certain stage.

This bachelor thesis aimed to explore, in a qualitative manner, the relationship and the interaction between the hospital welfare officer and the rest of the nursing staff. We chose this subject because we wanted to explain the phenomena of being a medical outsider in the nursing team. Our questions at issue were the following three: How does the hospital welfare officer define his occupational sphere and how do the rest of the nursing staff define it, according to the welfare officer himself? Is the welfare officer's relation to his own professional role and to the rest of the nursing staff affected by where his office is placed - secluded from or within the clinic? How does the welfare officer himself value his profession in relation to the rest of the nursing crew? To answer these questions we interviewed eight welfare officers, placed in two different hospitals. We used three different theories to explain the primary information.

Yllesugning och ylleätning är relativt ovanliga beteendeproblem hos tamkatter. De har inte studerats i någon större omfattning trots att de har varit kända under lång tid. Det saknas välformulerade hypoteser som kan förklara de resultat som framkom i den hittills enda publicerade studien inom området. Därför genomfördes en Internetbaserad enkätstudie där 205 katter ingick. Resultaten tyder på att när en kattunge tas från sin mamma före 5-6 veckors ålder så kan det naturliga dibeteendet dröja sig kvar upp i vuxen ålder.

Studien omfattade 90 honkatter som kastrerades av veterinärstudenter på UDS smådjursklinik. Tanken med studien är att fastställa hur vanligt det är med komplikationer efter ovariehysterektomi hos honkatt utförd av veterinärstudenter, samt vilka komplikationer som förekommer mest frekvent. Honkatterna kastrerades under dissociativ anestesi via linea albasnitt. Två olika postoperativa analgesipreparat användes, 49 av katterna gavs tolfenaminsyra och 41 av katterna gavs meloxicam. Djurägarna kontaktades via telefon tio till tjugo dagar efter kastrationen för att svara på ett antal frågor om hur deras katt har mått postoperativt och om några komplikationer har tillstött.

Trots att intresset för att ha katt som husdjur är stort i Sverige lämnas tusentals katter in till olika katthem årligen. Många av dessa katter uppges vara hemlösa. Då katternas bakgrund ofta är okänd finns en risk för bristande eller negativa mänskliga erfarenheter. Något som i sin tur kan leda till otillgänglighet och/eller skygghet hos dessa katter.Kattstallet i Åkeshov är ett av få katthem i Sverige som tar emot även skygga och till synes förvildade katter. De klassificerar inkomna katter, på en femgradig skala, utifrån hur sociala och/eller hanterbara katterna bedöms vara.

Den här uppsatsen behandlar idiomatiska uttryck i det svenska språket. Huvudsyftet har varit att undersöka i vilken utsträckning det svenska folket känner till betydelsen av ett utvalt antal idiom samt också i vilken mån dessa idiom används. Undersökningen genomfördes med enkäter där 139 informanter, varav ungefär hälften gick i högstadiet och den andra hälften var över 50 år, fick kryssa i flervalsfrågor om betydelse och användning för 20 idiom. Resultatet visade att de äldre informanterna inte bara hade en bättre kännedom om idiomens betydelser, utan också använde sig av idiomen i större utsträckning än de yngre. Vidare gick det att utifrån resultatet se att några av idiomen, främst "Göra en björntjänst", håller på att genomgå en förändring i sin betydelse medan andra idiom, såsom "Vara en katt bland hermeliner", verkar vara på väg att försvinna ur vårt språk..

Syftet med studien är att undersöka ett konsultföretags interventionsmodell för grupputveckling ur ett konsultperspektiv respektive kundperspektiv. Detta görs för att ta reda på vilka strategier som kan användas för att arbeta med grupputveckling och för att undersöka dessa strategiers upplevda resultat. Studiens teoretiska referensram består av forskning inom grupputveckling. Susan Wheelans teori om hur effektiva team skapas ses som en grund för studien, där hennes 10 nycklar till produktivitet utgör kriterier för vad som kännetecknar högpresterande arbetsgrupper. Studiens empiriska material består av intervjuer med konsulter på konsultföretaget samt kunder till dem.

This student report is about neutering male and female cats and compares early ageneutering to neutering at the traditional age of 6 months.The main focus in this report is early age neutering, which means that neutering isperformed when the kittens are between 6 and 16 weeks of age. This technique has beenused by shelters in the United States for a long time, to prevent the adopted cats fromreproduce and contribute to the problem of overpopulation.Two different surgical methods are also addressed; the ventral midline incision and thelateral flank approach. Ovariohysterectomy and ovariectomy are also compared.I also address which drugs are preferable when kittens are neutered and some importantguidelines where you have to be extra careful when dealing with kittens.These guidelines are the preanesthetic evaluation, calculating drug dosages and preventinghypothermia, hypoglycaemia and stress.The report also has a summary of the concerns regarding early age neutering such asanaesthetic risks, growth disorders and growth plate fractures, urologic diseases andimmune system dysfunction, obesity, altered metabolism and behavioural changes.The sex hormones and how they change after neutering is also included.At the end of the report there is a compilation of a questionnaire that consists of eightquestions that I sent out to various animal hospitals and veterinary clinics in Sweden..

BAKGRUND Kattens trombocyter har egenskaper som gör att dagens automatiska och manuella hematologianalyser ofta ger falskt låg trombocyträkning (pseudotrombocytopeni). Trombocyträkningen (PLT) riskerar att bli missvisande låg på grund av att trombocyterna hos katter kan vara mycket större än trombocyterna hos övriga arter, samt för att katters trombocyter in vitro ofta är så lättaktiverade att aggregat bildas. En del av de största trombocyterna räknas inte av de automatiska hematologiinstrumenten (framför allt impedanstyper) och trombocytaggregat medför att trombocyterna blir ojämnt fördelade i blodprovet. Vid sant låga trombocytvärden kan livshotande blödningar uppstå och det är därför viktigt att kunna skilja katter med sann trombocytopeni från katter med falsk trombocytopeni. Trombocytaggregering har effektivt förhindrats med prostaglandin E1. Prostaglandin E1 är dock mycket instabilt i rumstemperatur, vilket medför att effekten lätt kan utebli vid felhantering. Nyligen presenterade en studie analogen iloprost.

Behaviour problems are often behaviours that cat owners don´t like, but are normal to the cat. The reason to why cat owners experience certain feline behaviours as problematic is probably due to the current practice in cat housing. The ways that cats are kept today causes somewhat of a compromise between cat and owner and inhibits the expressions of the cat's natural and normal behaviour. The cat owners may misunderstand their cats behaviour, for example the cat owners believe that their cats perform certain behaviours because of feelings of guilt, hate, revenge or maybe to protest against something or someone. An animal hospital may help solve behaviour problems, but also help the cat owners to undstand their cat´s behaviour in an other perspective. The aim of this study is to investigate the need of a cat ethologist in animal hospitals.

During the late 19: th century the park Tivoli in Halmstad, today called Norre Katts park, was known as one of the most beautiful amusementparks of southern Sweden. This is a description that hardly anyone would use to portray the park today. The aim of this study is therefore to investigate what the park once looked like and how it has changed until today?s neglected state. The history of the place and by who and for whom the park with; 4 ½ acers with meandering paths, caves, an avenue, leaf halls and bowers, was created. Who designed the park in the year of 1843 is an unrequited question.

During one week (9-13 May, 2005) the use of veterinary diets for the hospitalised patients att the University clinic was registered. The animal owners were interviewed by telephone six months later about the feeding after coming home. Four out of ten animal owners answered yes to the question if the veterinarian had asked what food their animal normally consumed. Out of 35 animals, 15 (43%) were prescribed to a veterinary diet. Among cats it was 8 out of 14 (57%) and among dogs it was 7 out of 21 (33%). Four animals out of ten were recommended a veterinary diet when going home, but 20% did not follow the recommendation all the way through and stopped feeding their animal the veterinary diet. Reasons that were given was that the diet didn't last the entire period, that the animal didn't need the diet anymore according to the owner and one dog that became to lean when fed the diet. The diagnosis for these three dogs was vomiting, foreign body in the digestive system and bloody diarrhoea.

Syftet med uppsatsen var att ta reda på hur trollformler kan överleva flera århundraden. Jag har studerat en formel som botar vrickning eller brott på ben och bygger på ett muntligt berättande. För vidare resultat har jag tagit med historiska skeenden för att kunna se vad som har påverkat dess överlevnad. Jag har även tittat på ritualerna och magin kring boteformeln. Dessutom ifrågasatte jag om besvärjelsen var en magisk eller en religiös handling.
